Every time I see the booster nail that perfect landing, it sends a shiver down my spine. An absolutely amazing achievement made to look routine. Welcome to the future nerds!
I like how SpaceX treats every broadcast as a largely standalone affair and patiently explains everything to the audience. It's best practice and accounts for the influx of new viewers.
Of all the narrators she is by far the best. Having seen most if not all launches live or in RU-vid I have no doubt. You could see she truly lives doing it and was even in attendance to watch a live launch from Vandenberg.
@@tafdiz Well this part of a mission was thought to just be science fiction for the longest time. Landing the first stage is actually still fairly new. SpaceX was the first to do it successfully and that only just happened in 2015 (I know that may seem forever ago but in the world of space technology it’s really not that long ago (at least that’s what I’ve heard)). For years before that if you saw a rocket start going down engine first like that it was really bad news for the mission. This is all coming from a gal who grew up during the end of the space shuttle era. Lol 😆🚀
I do too! It’s so cool that the ability exists now to re-use the first stage though. It’s also so satisfying to look back on it when it’s successful. 😁
@@TheSieBee Now there will be some people who will whine and say "not the first" and talk about the 90s Test prototype who flew 4-5 times without engine re-ignition or passing a few Kilometers in height + afterwards NASA killed the program. But "Elon totally stole the idea..." then forget that there is a half century of various test beds for vertical landing.... And Completely ignoring that SpaceX developed a complex system far far beyond any of the mentioned Test prototypes.

Back in the day, we saw the shuttle launch like what, every few years? Well in Aus where I’m from that’s what i remember. Now I’m seeing SpaceX launches many times per week. Love it. Still amazed how they land the first stage so regularly without issue.
You don't remember well. Shuttles averaged about eight launches a year, and did ten times more than Falcon 9 can do. Soon, we will have Starships, which will have flight rate higher than Falcon 9, and operational capability greater than the Space Shuttle.
That would be really hard. The springs used to jettison the payload subject the satellite and the second stage to a force, pushing them away from each other. Also, the batteries for the camera and antennae for the second strange would probably run out of power before the solar panels actually deploy. Edit: Factual Error.

@@chesterwang3070 SpaceX is known to not use the explosive bolts since they cant be tested like hydraulics can before flight. They dont use explosive bolts to hold the rocket on the pad like NASA did. That said, I am not sure if they use hydraulics to push apart the 2nd stage from the payload, but they do use them to push apart 2nd and 1st stage.

Actually the name "Just read the Instructions" (and that of the other SpaceX recovery ship "Of course I still love you") are the names of ships in the SciFi Novel "The Player of Games" by Ian Banks (They are so called 'general contact units' or GCUs). Elon Musk is a huge fan of Ian Bank's 'Culture' novels, and in there you'll find many such weird names for ships.

I (think) have said it before....the PR--department of Space-X are GOLD ! Multiple camera angles, running commentary of what's going on (hehehe, reference !) and what I perceive as still being upbeat and positive to each and every launch....GREAT JOB !!! Both on the PR, info AND the successful launch !
The contrast between the SpaceX commentators, who are all engineers deeply involved in the project, and the commentators for Blue Origin's New Shepard launches, who are obviously just PR flacks who have no real understanding of what they are talking about, and are trying to make the little bottle rocket sound incredibly exciting and important, is very striking.

I was born in the early seventies as Apollo was winding down. After almost no progress for the 40+ years it is so great to finally see an achievement that is worthy of the early achievements in the 1960s.
That is ok. Getting people to Mars could be done in a few years but then it is only a flag planting mission. Prepare well enough and once people lands there a base could be built and there could always be people living there.
Another great launch with top notch professional coverage. And I have to say that Jessie has the coolest hair of any of the SpaceX engineer-presenters. :-)
After all of these totally successful launches, I would love to know how much their performance envelope could be pushed, payload-wise. Are they operating with a 20% safety margin? 10%? 2%?
They're pushing the profile a lot from what I gather, especially for a satellite in GTO with booster landing. These sorts of payloads and further are the ones where rockets like atlas V start to win out against falcon. the reuse and low energy second stage on falcon hurt them a little but gave them the cost advantage.
Once more, SpaceX has gone about their job of delivering their payload to orbit, Hopefully, Maxar did their job of making sure SXM-8 doesn’t fail once it reaches its final orbit like the last one. Or SiriusXM are _not_ going to be happy campers.

remember : each time they get a good recovery the insurance is less and less so the cost is less !! Other space operators are still in the premium insurances !
