That Midnight Oil concert held at the Capitol Theatre in November 1982, was epic (I didn’t go but watched the videos), and only $8.80 a ticket to see one of the greatest Aussie rock bands in full flight.
Thanks for the great video on The Capitol. I was at the Radiators Matt Finish Angels gig. $5 entry. Vividly remember Doc Neeson climbing the speaker stack and blasting one of their hits from the top. Epic gig.
Saw George Thorogood and the Destroyers at the capital in 1981 Great gig everyone standing on their seats rocking out.........Ten yrs earlier my mum took me to the capital to see H R Puffenstuff movie😂😂😂
Great look at the amazing life of the Capitol . Cheers for the mention about my night at KRAFTWERK . Cheers Graham One thing you might not have known but The ALLNITERS supported the CLASH there
Good video. I saw the Go Go's and Sunnyboys at the Capitol in 82/83. The decline of rock the Capitol coincided with the opening of the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Very well put together and very interesting and nostalgic. I saw a lot of these bands but in Adelaide. We had Thebarton Theatre among others. but I bet the Capitol was a great venue too. Wish I could have seen a band there. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks so much for this! I saw Jesus Christ Superstar with the amazing Jon English as Judas, who simply stole the show and I thought 'who is this guy?" I can still remember the scene where he was hauled up high above the stage til he wasn't visible, still singing. Also Joan Armatrading in about 1981 or 82. Seemed quite a posh venue at the time as I was used to a more grungy pub scene.
The late 1982 Midnight Oil concert at The Capitol Theatre was the band at its peak with that line up. 82 also Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast Tour, their very 1st time in Australia and they keep coming back, bigger shows and bigger crowds.
I was in attendance for Kraftwerk, Ultravox, Thin Lizzy & Black Sabbath to name a few. Not mentioned, I also saw Cheap Trick, Mike Oldfield & Simple Minds there too. Thanks for the trips down memory lane.
My band Street Level won the NSW finals of the Hoadley’s/2SM Battle of the Bands Comp at the Capitol in 1980. Little Heroes later won the Grand Final at the Hordern, where Chisel finished the night as guests. I think we did a special appearance later that night at the Bondi Lifesaver with Chisel again as special guests!
