1 and only gf my dad seen in his 70 yrs of living as an old south supporter. He was sooo happy !! Sadly he passed away Sep 2012,just missed out on another great day of his loved Swannies. RIP dad 🔴⚪
i shivered 4 times.. i have watched it a number of times.. i was only 7 years old, & being at the MCG for grand final, i didnt understand how big it was. it is a moment i will never forget. CARN THE BLOODS!
Words cannot describe this video. I watch it most nights before i go to bed and it always brings a tear to my eye. I still remember the exact moment when the siren went that day, and hopefully i will get to witness it many more times with sydney as the victors.
I've watched this video a lot of times but never commented. I'm an Eagles fan so the pain of this game and seeing Leo rise up above the pack never ceases, but i'm a passionate lover of of great game that is AFL in general. I have the utmost respect for the Sydney FC and what Paul Roos did at that club. This video has got to be one of the most feel good AFL videos on youtube
I was at the Swans first game at the SCG. I was there in 96 when they beat Hawthorn and Essendon and then lost the GF in 96. In 05 I was at the win against Geelong and that Everest of a conquest at the MCG. The tension and excitement were palpable, dripping off the stands. It was viscous in the air. And then... we won. Pure ecstasy and a life long joy to have witnessed it. And then I was at the GF in 06. A fan's journey and a club's journey... I guess to be continued. What a sport!
Last game of footy I got to watch with my grandfather before he died - a Bloods fan for over thirty years. Seeing Leo take that mark...epic, epic moment. Fly high you mighty Swans! :)
I had a different reaction. Watching on TV with a neutral friend, I sat in stunned silence upon the siren. I was nearly 60 at the time. It took me a good 15 minutes to come out of what I call some sort of trance. Such a thing couldn’t be possible for the team I had watched so many times as a little boy crying my eyes out after every loss of which there were so many. That grand final along with 2012 are definitely the greatest joys of this old man’s life. I also believe I have a very sound reasons to believe I’m going to experience more joy in 2020.
even when i am an eagles supporter. I like the swans also because of their history. And that win on 2005 was one of the best games what i ever seen. And the GF 1 year later was the prove. Eagles and Swans one the best teams in the 21st century.
i was there on this day and also the night plugger kicked the point... i get a tear everytime i watch this and i always watch if im having a shitty day.. the music is amazing and the images of Paul Kelly and those who kept us believing that the swans would oneday have their moment in history.. well done and thank you
Paul roos imminent retirement from coachin you have done so much for this club as a player and a coach you brought us a premiership after a 72 year drought You are a legend and immortal
I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye every time i watch this or thr GF replay, My uncle passed away 2 weeks b4 this and he was a swans supporter for over 60 years RIP Uncle Eddie!
I was living in New York at the time. 4AM on a Saturday morning we were at this aussie pub crying with unbelievable feelings of finally conquering the mountain. We were so far away but at the time, there was a band of aussies who celebrated with the rest of Sydney & South Melbourne. We didn't stop partying for rest of the weekend. I'm back in Sydney now, and I will be at the G the next time it happens I assure you!!
My dad's side of the family have always been bloods fans, so as a baby girl i was born into being a swans supporter. I was born in june 1996 and was there at the MCG 2 or so months old. Through the years i have never lost faith in the Swannies, even though my mum and my sister often 'change' teams whenever the Swannies have a not so good years. Swans forever! Both me and my dad were in tears hugging every other bloods supporter in the crowd around us. BLOODS FOREVER!
This remains one of the great moments in Australian sporting history - I was at the game - it was a magic day which is burned into my brain and will remain there for as long as I can draw breath.....
MANCHESTER UNITED . You are the soccer dick head, too stupid to work out that the whole of Australia follows Aussie rules because even though Northern Territory and Tasmania don’t have an AFL team that’s only because their populations don’t warrant setting up a team that doesn’t mean all the people who live in those places don’t follow the sport because they certainly do and you are a total idiot
@MANCHESTER UNITED Why would anyone follow DIVE BALL ....a game exclusively reserved for limp wristed wimps and fairies - better start following a CONTACT sport Pal ...... try AFL GAA NRL or NFL ....
@M Sorry but this along with Cronulla's droughtbreaking NRL premiership in 2016 were better than the Socceroos vs Uruguay game. Both Grand Finals remain the only time I've shed tears over a sporting event. In Cronulla's case, as someone who started following the Sharks since I was 4 (32 when the drought breaker finally came) it was absolute relief and joy, same as the Swans in 2005. Something you will never understand. Simple fact is Australian rules football was invented by Australians for Australians. My suggestion for you would be to pack your bags and fuck off back to wherever you came from.
Nice work. I was behind the goals where Barry took the mark. I had no idea he took the mark though as everybody was jumping up and down. One of the best grand final moments ever!
that was the greatest game i had ever been at i partied all the way back to sydney then celebrated for like a week longer. GO THE SWANS we can do in 2010.
i have seen this video soooo many times before and every time it almost brings a tear to my eye. as a passionate dogs supporter i know the pain of a premiership drought and seeing the swans fans and payers in this video make me believe that some day that the dream of finally winning another premiership may happen. great video and beautiful song well done mate you really captured what the game stands for :)
Chills down my spine! The expressions on the faces in the crowd! The music! Oh man, a day and a game I'll never forget. You nailed it all in one video.
Love this video its shows the passion and faith swans supporters have ,After the final siren i rang my uncle (swans fan for 80 yrs) to see how he felt to only find out he passed away the week b4 so now the 2005 GF is etched in my mind forever RIP Eddie
How I've managed to miss this video, I have no idea but it had me in tears. It's so well done and to be able to look back on what our might bloods have achieved is priceless!! Go swaniesssss
The very best sports video I have ever ever seen, just magnificent and so beautifully put together. The song is wonderful as is Sinead O'Connor singing it...........just devine. What a story what a day I watch this a lot just to reaffirm my faith in the great team that is the Sydney Swans
In so many relocations, teams lose something. Often something inexplicable. 1998, NRL - St George Illawarra lost the 'hard work ethic' and never-say-die attitude when connection was severed with the Illawarra. I went searching for a new team, and found it in the swans. I had seen the grit and might in the amazing 1996 GF against NthMelbs. I decided to commit and I've never ever looked back! An inspirational team forever. To me, the core of the swans remains to be the SthMelbs grit! Be proud!!
That has to be just about the loudest crowd noise on tape ever.....!! Except maybe for the '05 GF when the final siren went and the TV viewers couldn't hear it. :)
I hope so too man. I've always enjoyed watching the Bloods play too - and their "never say die" ethos strikes a chord with me. Good luck for both sides in '10!!
One of the most saddest things ever... I'm a Collingwood supporter (yes I do have my front teeth) and I waited 20 years for a grand final but to see a team such as Sydney win their first in 72 years is just astounding! I remember feeling this good when in my 2nd last junior footy match for under 11's. They were up by 2 and we got a goal. We were in front by 4 with 50 seconds remaining and my coach put me on. When we won, we were just as excited as the swans in 2005, it took us all season to win.
We had some great battles over those years. After both Grand Finals what got me was the attitude of the crowd. Not one problem at all. After the game in 2005 I saw Eagles fans stay and clap the Swan’s players as they were presented their medallions so after 2006 I made sure I did the same for the Eagles.
Swans 2005 premiership is one of the most moving years eva first with nick davis's miracle four and ofcourse that last roll of the dice when leo barry marked it, i remember being in that croud i was screaming for the siren XD GO SWANNIES... oh nice vid XP
s coz cocaine doesnt inhance performance, it makes it ok for ppl to use it for recreation......so what if the swans have only 4 flags, they have been thru a lot in their history, it builds the club's character....ur players out west certainly have done that in the last few years......not that it is encouraged...
