I'd like to see the station and line restored by a non-profit organisation and volunteers. I was in Mudgee 10 years ago this month as the station was still in its same state, only the Mudgee sign has changed. It was an Arts gallery back then. Thank you Phil for presenting this video.
Mudgee station is in a weird spot where it’s on a closed section of the Gwabegar line but there are parts of track either side that are still operational.
Passenger train services to Mudgee ceased in 1985. The station building was used for some years as FreightCorp and Pacific National accommodation and leased by community groups. Much of the interior of the building was converted into a restaurant in 2005, with alterations to the general waiting room, entrance/lobby and booking office, the installation of kitchen facilities and temporary fencing on the station platform. The restaurant opened in February 2006. It was later replaced by an Indian restaurant; however, this ceased operation c. 2015.
Gorgeous station. So glad it’s still being used and its elegance maintained. It was of a time when traveling by train was more than a commute. Beautiful location too. Thanks for a lovely tour Phil. Really enjoying your recent videos of traveling about.
Hey Phill, lovely video! Mudgee could be used for heritage services. On a completely different note, its such a bugger that these awesome kinds of videos are not so much enjoyable to others and only enjoy those crazy and annoying meme type videos, end of an era ad you may call it. And they now have a new language and a new way of speaking. More positively, keep up the great work you have been doing over the last 10 years. You totally deserve it!
Hey Phil - I really think it's a shame so many branch lines have closed - I love the trip from Lithgow to Mudgee because you also get to see the other side of the Blue Mountains - I hope one day the line is restored for Heritage trips - or wine trips 😊 thank you for your videos 😊
I enjoyed riding the train that ran between Hay and Junee which was closed during the 1986. They said the line wasn't used enough to keep the line running. Something I fail to agree with as the train was always busy when I traveled between Matong - Sydney.
