Sydney Trains Vlog 82: Indian Pacific shunting operations at Central

I have been looking forward to this video since reading your comment on JTV Penrith video. I enjoyed this very much. The reason for so few passengers leaving the train on its arrival is due to the majority of passengers leaving the train in Mt Victoria and Katoomba to join off train excursions of the Blue Mountains. These passengers will arrive on a Vset at approximately 3pm. In years gone by, a Motorail carriage would be loaded with passengers' motor vehicles in the short siding, which can be seen at the end of platform 1. This carriage was attached to another Motorail carriage in Adelaide for the journey across to Perth. The shunting procedure is interesting as is the water replenishment for every carriage on the train. The red service carriages seen are ex-red service passenger cars, which are now used for crew quarters. The early days of the Indian Pacific saw a frequency of 3 times a week with Electric locomotives hauling the train to Lithgow and then being replaced with Diesel locomotives. The shunting process at Lithgow was also interesting to watch. Thank you for filming the departure of this amazing train.
