Sylt is a German island in the North Sea, known for its distinctive shape, beautiful beaches, and unique Frisian culture. It's a popular tourist destination, offering a mix of natural beauty and upscale amenities. The Sylt Shuttle, operated by Deutsche Bahn, is a car train service that provides a vital connection between Sylt and the mainland. It transports vehicles and their passengers across the Hindenburgdamm causeway, offering a unique and efficient way to access the island without a ferry. An intriguing aspect is the presence of a competitor service by an American company, the Railroad Development Corporation (RDC). This service offers an alternative to Deutsche Bahn's Sylt Shuttle, providing additional options for travelers seeking to connect between Sylt and the mainland.
Unfortunately, my experience on the Sylt Shuttle was during the night under poor weather conditions, adding a different, albeit less scenic, dimension to the journey.
