RIP Brit Turner, BBS drummer; March 2024. He and the boys were rocking away on this one. Bitter sweet re-watching. So glad you shared this from 5 years ago! Tears for the passing of Brit. Blackberry Smoke forever.
So, then, please enlighten me. I am not a bass player. What I am missing, though, is that slightly leading groove that I have heard Bill Wyman and others pulling off. Is that it? Or what else? I should like to learn.
I thinks their strong blues and country roots make big difference. I ate a lot of blackberries in the woods when I was a kid but never smoked them. But we smoked grape vines. Gotta get back to my roots and get Smoked!
As always 1000%. Also with Tyler Briant and the Shakedown. Delicious. But do remember BBS does and has done a whole packet of original songs. Thanks to Charlie and other collaborators. Love you Charlie, Brandon, Brit, Paul and Richard. OUT OF SIGHT. Best fan in France, Lili.
One more time... ain't this hot hot hot? Beyond brilliant. Thanks Macopus... damn the "boys" are good. Touched those carpets in PDX, Or and can't wait to see Blackberry Smoke again in Europe. I'll drive, fly, train, walk to see them again. They are AMAZING in concert, with the clips, you name it. Love 'em all. Charlie, Paul, Richard, Britt and Brendon. From your best fan in France, Lili Kiki and my wonderful 16-year old cat called Starlette; renamed "Charlie Starrrrrrrrlette".
Listening for the upteenth time... more than smoking hot. Thanks Macopus. Brilliant filming, sound and BBS and the guests. YES. Thanks, merci, Lili Kiki from France.
re-watching... one of the hottest covers BBS does. Plus Tyler Briant and the Shakedown. OK, it's a cover, but Blackberry Smoke deserves to be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Outstanding. Lili from France.
For some reason it seems only BlackBerry can get the real feel for these old songs down. Others who have done covers, it just seems to forced, no flow. Blackberry has the flow down with the Shakedown.
The stones actually had something musically to offer society, and that's why so many great groups and musicians who actually matter like BlackBerry smoke acknowledge them and take inspiration from their music. They did a great job with this classic hit because there was a lot to work with. Take the Beatles who are often considered the greatest for some strange reason. They were just a boy band spewing pop crap , then they started taking acid and trying to change society with artistic statements. They were never about the music.
Yes they can play for sure, writing songs that really haven't been bettered and are amongst the greatest ever as well as playing them live over many decades is really a no contest to be fair.
The great bands can cover anything , check out Smokes version of Fairies wear boots and The Rover/Houses of the Holy ,they comprehensively cover Skynyrd as well.i saw them in the Uk about six years ago and it was only £12 a ticket !!!!!!! Amazing talent.
You cannot do stones without a Mick Taylor tribute dude, he was the vintage stones...That said there are better songs to cover and these guys are great enough to nail them.
super , i'm coming next year in the states to follow the "la route du blues" from chicago to the new orleans forgive me for my english but i'm belgian and usualy, i'm speeking only french...
