Best explanation of this song that I've seen. Thank you for putting a listing of the chords and the strumming pattern - nobody seems to do that in these vids.
Great video, perfect for any guitar player due to the great amount of detail you talk about for each chord progression and strumming patterns. Great content!
This was a great lesson! Your personality is perfect for it and it felt like you were sitting right next to me teaching. It felt very natural not like you were reading from a script. I think part of that might be leaving your little mess ups in, it made it feel human.
Thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to putting more of these up, just waiting to get a quiet space set up. Do you have a song request I can add to my list?
this is literally so helpful !!! i just bought a capo so i could finally learn this song and work on strumming technique so this was a big big help!! keep up the good work :)
@@SeanHuddleston id be very grateful bro! Could u pls make a tutorial on the song ‘oceans’ by Coldplay in standard tuning? And ‘ i will’ by matchbox 20.. also ‘ hand me down’ by matchbox and ‘ freshmen’ by verve pipe..those 3 songs for now brother..I’ll wait for it.. thanks in advance!
I like the way he laughs after each demonstration, like he's saying "good luck lol". No but for real, thank you for this! I'm just starting out on the guitar, only been playing about a week. But after about 2 or 3 hours of practice, I can hit about half the chords in the song pretty well, and change between them decently. Hitting the base note/5 string individually probably took the longest to be able to pull off fairly reliably. And yes, the chord chart and song chart are very helpful! I have them up on my screens and refer to them while playing. Honestly, this makes me feel good about continuing practicing, it's great being able to play at least parts of a song you like, it's definitely motivating. If I could offer one suggestion, in the first part of the video, when you're showing us the chords, put up an image of that chord from the chord chart, similar to what you did later in the video when you put up images of the song chart. For a total beginner or something without duel monitors, it would make it easier to follow along. But overall great video man, hope to see more!
Alright yeah I can put those charts in there in the next one. Really appreciate that suggestion. Really cool to read that you’re into guitar and this video helped! I think anyone can be a good musician if they want to work at it, so keep it up, Fuzzy!
@@SeanHuddleston Heck yeah man, thank you! I'm more than happy to help since this video is really helping me. So far I've been learning by watching other people's tutorials, and played at most about 30 minutes a day before getting kinda bored and putting the guitar down. I found your video yesterday and played for over 3 hours, just following along and playing the chords over and over. My fingers hate you but they'll get over it lol. This is exactly the kinda content I've been looking for, it teaches us to play real songs, in a way that's hard and quite challenging but not overwhelming. Too easy is boring, too hard is discouraging, this is right in the sweet spot. And you seem like a chill dude lol, really hope to see more from you man, take care!
@@fuzzypanda1684 haha awesome man! I actually just had a kid so it’s been tough to post these much, but I’m excited to get back at it. Basically you have really motivated me to keep going and hopefully help people.
@@SeanHuddleston Hey congrats man! My best friend just had his first about 6 months ago, so yeah, might be tough to make videos for a little bit I'm guessing. Glad I could motivate you to keep it going btw, you definitely should! As far as songs, man, there's a lot of good songs. In the same genre as this, I mean Slide by the Goo Goo Dolls is a great one, Matchbox 20 has song great ones, 3AM , Real World are awesome. If we wanna go back further, I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to learn Up Around the Bend by CCR lol. Actually, what drew me to this video specifically was that I wanted to learn Sympathy, but there weren't many tutorials on it. Most of the others were short and assumed you knew how to play already. Yours are great because you break everything down slowly, explain things pretty well, and have links to those charts which is *incredibly* helpful. Seriously, keep the charts lol. If you keep doing those things, I think you'll stand out against the other tutorials really well!
Possibly. Chords aren’t easy. If you’re buzzing that’s better than no vibration at all. I have my students grab a chord and pluck each string individually while holding the chord down to find the noise or lack of vibration. Each chord also requires a slightly different finger angle/hand/wrist/forearm/elbow position. It’s not just put fingers here, but HOW you put the fingers. And I don’t know that I went into that detail in the video. Buzzing could come from lots of different things though. You’d have to take your guitar to your local guitar player to know for sure.
You play great man. Solid performance, and no offense because I played it that way for many years, but this isn't actualy any where near the way John Rzeznik plays it on the album. He's in an alternate tunning, and using a completely different fingering. It's a lot to explain, but you can see it on the music video, and there's a couple cover videos on RU-vid where they play it the way it was done on the album.
