Ik Mahler 2 twee keer gespeeld met het VU-Orkest. De eerste keer was de eerste keer dat een universitair orkest zich in Nederland überhaupt waagde aan Mahler, in een uitverkochte Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. Waar zelfs het NRC een recensie aan waagde, zo bijzonder was dat. Om het VU-orkest 30 jaar later dit werk weer te zien spelen op zo'n hoog (hoger!) niveau ook nu Daan Admiraal er niet meer is, doet me echt wat. Wat een prachtig concert en een prachtige opname.
Werkelijk uitstekende versie van een van Mahlers moeilijkste symfonieën (en een van mijn favorieten) door een jeugdorkest dat klinkt als een Europees toporkest . Geweldig werk van de dirigent.
(een oud- en oude trompettist...) Heb werkelijk ademloos geluisterd naar dit voor mij zeer bekende werk... Musici - solisten... BRAVISSIMO!!!!!! Tjonge jonge... ! WOW!
I stoutly maintain that one's everyday carry M2 should be Vaclav Neumann, or PERHAPS Kubelik (or perhaps perhaps Tennstedt). And I've judged many live concert M2s: first Eschenbach took the palm, but Alan Gilbert just managed to winkle it out from under him. And then I hear this. Utterly gorgeous. This guy knows how to rehearse! Each section of the orchestra knows exactly what he wants at all times. And he is a master of INTELLIGENT rubato (especially at the climax of the first movement, where the modern tendency is to slam on the brakes and show off as much as possible). The clarity of texture is nothing short of astonishing. Yes, this performance does have more than its fair share of flubs and clinkers, but hey - live. And the beauty of the whole subsumes any weakness in the parts. Everyone is completely inside the music, and it shows. Frankly, if there were someone who had never heard this symphony, and I wanted them to love it as much as I do after 50 years of devout listening, then I would likely show them this to ignite their passion. It's that good.
just an amazing performance/ I've seen 5 of Mahler 2 one with my mother conducted by Rostropovich. This was transcendant. And the conductor is amazing to watch too!. Remember the nane Arjan Tien!
Ik heb inmiddels denk ik minimaal twintig verschillende uitvoeringen van Mahlers Tweede beluisterd. En dit is zeer zeker niet de minste! Dit monument van de klassieke muziek is ook monumentaal uitgevoerd, en dat door zulke jonge mensen. Mooie tempi door Arjan Tien. Hier past maar één woord: BRAVO! By now I think I have listened to at least 20 different performances of Mahler's Second. And this is by no means the least! This monument of classical music has also been performed monumentally, and by such young people! Lovely tempi by Arjan Tien. Only one word fits here: BRAVO!
Magnificat, simply Magnificent. How did Mahler do it so well? Incredible, and with a full Orchestra sound, Voices and Organ, and to finish off with what all the Kings and Queens, at that, or any time wanted to hear, explosive sounds, ending with voices raised and the sound of Bells, signifying a singular Triumph and that part is really unsurpassed, and Mariss Jansons, did marvelous, simply marvelous, with the entire piece. Tempo was excellent.
@@arjantien767 Yo! Leonard Bernstein is great at conducting Mahler too. But this is definitely the best recording on RU-vid. Absolutely amazing. Sang it this past winter with the Knoxville Symphony and it was lovely.
@@arjantien767 There are, in my opinion, iconic performances of certain works, whether because of the conductor, or the musicians, or both. Robert Shaw's Carmina Burana, Stephen Hough's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Yvgeny Kissin's Rach 2, Callas' Norma, and others. But this. The first time I heard it all other performances paled. They were sad copies of something. This performances, with Dudamel conducting, is life changing. I've heard so many different ones, but this combination of musicians under his baton is...without words. Any superlative you can think of is inadequate.

I can't get my eyes off the lady in the audience behind the orchestra first row, third from the left who covers her ears all the time the volume exceeds mezzo forte. She must have missed half of the performance ^^
