I love his contrast of Tonality and Atonality in attempting to describe a both harrowing and miraculous experience. At times you can get an image of the ineffable, but it is quickly obscured by the sheer magnitude of such an encounter.
In many points, the music tries to resolve, but the excitement and tension is so high, that the orchester snaps into flurishes of many voices all wildly glorifying the undescribeable.
About twenty years ago I heard for the first time "ANGEL OF LIGHT" (a birthday gift). The magic of the music is still overwhelming. It is a masterpiece and one of the most beautiful symphonies of the 20th century. Thank you for this impeccable upload.
this music touches something inside of me ,that no other music can reach. It is also highly addictive:-)! This symphony and his 3rd piano concerto has this effect on me
Indeed. Rautavaara's oeuvre is roughly divided into four stylistic periods. He started as a neoclassicist, then moved on to dodecaphony, and in the late 1960s, to neo-romanticism. From the 1980s onwards, he developed a kind of synthesis style from serialism and neo-romanticism. For example, in his Seventh Symphony, Rautavaara used the 12-tone technique but created sounds that were basically romantic in nature.
Some touches of Walton, Elgar, and Ralph Von Williams in the 3rd and Finale movement. The cadences section at around 29-30:00 are very indicative of English compositional open 4th stylistic elements.
Thanks! My absolute favourite Rautavaara symphony...I'd like to see the other symphonies, and icons and Passionale with this kind of pictorial visualisation.
It is of Lucifer. It has nothing to do with the TRUE GOD MAN, Jesus Christ. The artist, Jean Delville, was a Theosophist. In other words, he was a Luciferian. Helena Blavatasky founded the Theosophical Society and she knew whom she served---Satan. The sad part is the influence the New Age Movement had on culture in the late, 1960's and early 1970's. In both progressive rock (Yes, Genesis, Rick Wakeman) and classical music (Rautavaara, Kaija Saariaho, and so on). I am convinced that music from this time was reflective of the spirit of the times---the New Age, the Aquarian Age, Luciferianism, Angelology, etc..One must go back to Bach to be refreshed with music from GOD. I am a Finn, and I am also struck by the fact that Sibelius was a Mason. And Finland has strong roots in Freemasonry---Worship of Lucifer (the Angel of Light), who is also Satan. We must wake up to REALITY. GOD as JESUS CHRIST.
