This is one of the most beautiful metal songs ever recorded. It's a shame not a lot of people know this stuff...absolute sonic perfection. Thanks for reacting!

Hi Kelly, love the Iron Maiden Piece of Mind shirt, my favorite Maiden album. I know of Symphany X but not familiar with their songs. In the course of doing research this what I found out. Symphony X is an American progressive metal band from Middletown, New Jersey. Founded in 1994, the band consists of guitarist Michael Romeo, keyboardist Michael Pinnella, drummer Jason Rullo, lead vocalist Russell Allen and bassist Michael Lepond. Paradise lost is the title track song. Paradise Lost album is the seventh studio album, released on June 26, 2007 through Inside Out Music. It is a concept album loosely inspired by John Milton's 1667 epic poem Paradise Lost.

Hey Mark! Thanks for the info and for letting me know I was kinda right about the song. It's been AGES since I read Paradise Lost so I don't remember too much about it. I'm glad you liked the shirt. I think the only song I might've heard (and I'm not even sure that I have heard it) from that album is The Trooper. If I did, it was only once a very very long time ago but I've always liked the album cover. I'm just weird that way. LOL Always a pleasure to see you hun. 🤘Thanks for watching!🤘 Kelly

You need to settle in and listen to Symphony X's "The Odyssey" to get a real feel of Russel Allen's true range!

Hey Kelly. You are correct. Russell Allen did sing the part of the President in the Day That The World Breaks Down. I'm not too familiar with the Symphony X catalogue, but he does have a strong distinctive voice. The band formed in 1994 and are still active. It appears you are on a mission to listen to all the singers from the Ayreon song. If you're not familiar with Dream Theater(James LaBrie), I would suggest Pull Me Under, Metropolis pt. 1, or Under a Glass Moon. And a couple I've heard from Blind Guardian (Hansi Kursch)- Bard's song and Valhalla.

Hey Chris!! Always a pleasure to see ya! I do want to check out music from the artists who appeared in The Day That the World Breaks Down so I'm so grateful that you gave me some suggestions ESPECIALLY the Dream Theater ones. I've heard of DT but never any of their music but Blind Guardian is entirely new to me. I'm gonna have to go back and see who these guys were in the Ayreon video - I've forgotten already. Sux getting old LOL All the best to you and yours. 🤘Thanks for watching!🤘 Kelly

Home by Dream Theater next. Symphony X is best served with Dream Theater. Both different flavors of prog metal.

From the "silent crystalline tears I cry", I believe it's the point in Paradise Lost where Lucifer is looking upon Eden and Creation and he catches himself in a moment of "this is beautiful, I fucked up" before an angel saw him and he snapped back to his plan

The chorus "Looking down..." is the response to the verses by Lucifer by the Archangel Michael, taking in the end of the paradise intended for Adam & Eve. Crying for what was and what might have been, but is now gone forever. My take - and this is only my theory, I have no idea if it was intentional, you'd have to ask Russell - is that for the first two songs on the album, Russell sings it harshly because it is from the point of view of Lucifer as he rebels and fights against heaven; he is angry, he is raging, and he wants to take it up to God. When we come to this song Paradise Lost, Lucifer is, as you say, in a moment of reflection where the rage has temporarily subsided, and he can see the results of his actions and thinks "Did I do the right thing or not?", hence the softer vocal tone as Lucifer ponders his actions. He realises, however, that he has set himself onto a path, and rightly or wrongly he has to follow that path through to its conclusion; he can't go back and it is too late to stop. His actions have created his character. Which brings him to the heart-wrending line in the bridge where he declares "I'll savour the downfall of paradise", not because he is pleased with it, but rather he is ":savouring" it in a bitter ironic sense of "yeah, I guess that's all my doing". And even then the songwriting gives it a final turn of the knife.:"I'll savour the downfall..." - pause, allow Lucifer to look around and take it all in, and then, almost sorrowfully but with final fatal acceptance "...of paradise". Or I could simply be reading waaay too much into it!

@@b.k.4954 no, they're a prog metal band, and the rest of the album has subtleties like that, so i think it is intentional
