Great segment! Thyroid issues have led me to be more and more in tune with my body like never before. I caught a virus 3 years ago that led to De Quervain thyroiditis (quite rare). I ignored the symptoms for MONTHS before I noticed the goiter and decided to go to the doctor. I went through hyper and hypo phases. I think hyper was the worst for me. It was winter time and It felt hot all the time; I had insomnia; I would be waking up at night with my heart beating so fast I thought I was gonna die; I lost over 20 pounds; I experienced hair loss; I wanted to cry all the time with no reason and loss of my singing voice. But then with hypo came the extreme fatigue, the carpal tunnel syndrome; joint pains; feeling cold all the time; inability to concentrate; and more thinning hair. Later exams showed that I have a vitamin D deficiency and that was probably the reason why I got that infection in the first place. Unfortunately, I'm still going through some hypo phases from time to time and since my TSH is borderline, my endo does not want to treat me with thryoid medications and I am not sure if I really want to be treated this way. But overall, I'm feeling so much better!

I went to my doctor a few months ago and he said with me taking my medicine my thyroid levels were too high so he suggested me getting off my medicine for a month, and when I went back I was sure I would probably have to get back on my meds but nope, my levels were still normal. U forgot this about hyper...weightloss, depression, suicide thoughts, loss of hair, not functioning in your every day life, so tired but you cant sleep, shakiness...I lost more than 10kg in 2 months..i looled anorectic..you eat a lot but get so skinny because of the metabolism... and i was crazy. I had all the symptoms. I had to undergo surgery and operate it away t So now I dont have any. Its important to talk about this but its almost always focused on hypothyreoism..hyperthyroism is very common among young, fertile women and after birth. Many doctors wont even take the blodtest just give you antidepression..i was going crazy. I was borderline...it effected my life and i hurt a lot of people.

I'm literally having the same issues and I really love you for this even though it's four years ago you might not see my comment. I saw in the comments everybody kept talking about hypothyroidism and I'm like I understand the pain but I don't have that I have hyperthyroidism and it's literally doing everything you just said and I just screenshotted it so I can tell it to my doctor that I see this Wednesday. I'm totally getting the whole D taken out I would rather take medication for the rest of my life and go on feeling the way I have been feeling for the last couple of years. I am very mad that they have not found a cure for thyroid issues when they can do all this technology crap and have robots it's just annoying

I had hyperthyroidism when I was 16. My mom noticed my goiter in pictures and took me to the doctor. They checked and My levels were not normal. My heart rate was faster than normal, hotter, angry ness, anxiety, all of that. And they had to either do surgery or get radioactive treatment. I had radiation done. I don’t have my thyroid anymore. But now I take a pill each day, and go about it. I’m only 23 so it can happen on baby’s as well. Any age. So ask for that test when you go to a check up.

Four years ago I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease. I had extreme weight loss (I lost 12pounds in a week despite severely overreacting), severe headaches, my resting heart rate was 158bpm, vision loss, breathlessness and extremely weak muscles. I had a total thyroidectomy and now I’m considered Hypo just because my body can’t produce thyroid hormones itself. I now take Levothyroxine, every single morning :) if you can catch Hypothyroidism early enough and start medication for it early enough, it’s very likely you won’t start to gain a lot of weight :)

@Gen amazing! I’ll check it out. I also suffer with gut issues and I’m constantly trying to find what could be causing my daily discomforts from sweating constantly, IBS, depression, lactose intolerance, stomach/upper body weight gain, the list goes on and on. I would love a solution because I am tired lol

This just gets me so so so upset because I don’t have a thyroid and I’ve tried armour thyroid which has worked with me yet my doctor(s) one after another will NOT prescribe me it but keep giving me synthroid which does NOT work :(

I love that they’re doing this because my aunt has a thyroid problem and she doesn’t wanna go to the doctor because they gonna tell her to stop smoking weed. She’s having delusions and seeing things I don’t know if it’s the medication. 😭

I like this topic a lot because I have a low thyroid problem and I do take Levothyroxine for it. I also have Down Syndrome which is more common to have a low thyroid problem also.

If your doctor says you won’t benefit from Armour Thyroid find another Endocrinologist. They gave me two hypothyroid meds and neither worked. I asked for Armour Thyroid, they said no. I researched and went to a third endocrinologist and she gave me Armour Thyroid and I saw 100% positive results within 60 days. It’s been almost one year and I’m doing much better. I also had to change my diet to the FODMAP diet and become a vegetarian, not vegan. I still eat fish and that’s all right with me.

I am definitely setting up a doctors appointment to see if I have thyroids. Over the past few years I’ve gained an unexplainable amount of weight even though my diet is not bad and I am very active, plus some of the symptoms she mentioned I definitely experience.

For those who are overweight and get diagnosed....is it the continuos food intake that makes the brain make more thyroid hormone leading to an eventual decrease in secretion because the excess hormone has nowhere to go? Is it the hypothyroidism that causes increased weight gain because the cells are not getting enough metabolic energy? Or both? So confused

My thyroid makes me feel lazy and groggy. I drink apple cider vinegar to try to clear it. I went to the doctor and she didn’t do anything, she told me to wait until I get pregnant to come back. I’m going to go to someone else, because it makes me feel bad to have a warm, mucus filled throat for no reason.

Rosa... Four years ago I was diagnosed with Subclinical Hypothyroidism ...meaning your lab results will come back within the "normal" range but your body will physically still be having real hypothyroid symptoms. You are not overreacting or making it up. Researching about it really helped me understand better what was happening to me. Once I started medication, I could tell a difference within a few days. Don't give up! 🌼

misscrystalz16 You can get by without insurance, but some cash is important to have..sadly. You can go to clinics (walk-in, community, and on campus clinics). Many community clinics provide free and/or low cost treatment. :)

Thank you for this airing this segment about "Thyroid". I've been under suspension whether I do or don't. Although I am experiencing pain on the outside of my neck area towards the front by my lower esophagus and I've noticed that lately it's been happening a lol before I start my menstrual cycle. So I'm not sure if that maybe a symptom or sign.
