The shops changing the fluid are often the people overfilling it……
@mcmxi6982
@mcmxi6982 2 месяца назад
1. Overheat: The more fluid, the less heat. 2. Leaking seals: The oil pump generates pressure that goes to the valve body and returns to the oil pan. There is no pressure inside the oil pan; otherwise, it would leak at the weakest point, which is the oil dipstick. 3. Gear changes: Gear changes depend on various factors, such as correct oil pressure, accurate sensor readings, and functioning solenoids. The valve body is the heart of the transmission, and all the oil that enters it to perform work comes directly from the oil pump, not the oil pan. 4. I have 20+ years of experience in AT, and I have never seen any issue with driving a vehicle overfilled with oil. This applies to both engine oil and transmission oil. when I say overfilled, I mean something about 2 ou 3 extra L

I have a 2011 f350 and the transmission fluid is too high, it’s jerky when decelerating and sometimes it doesn’t like skipping gear like say from 4 to 6

@@mikethompson3534 I used to believe that OEM fluid is the way to go but I decided to experiment with Valvoline Maxlife on my 06 Sequoia with 300k miles on it. 30k later, it still shift like it was with ATF WS OEM stuffs. Maybe Honda is the same but I don't own 1 to experiment with it.

I can't get a clean read on the dipstick of my '06 F-150. It seems like fluid is showing up on the edges of the dipstick for several inches above the hash marks. I siphoned out about a quart, then nothing showed on the dipstick at all. I put back half a quart, and it's back to showing fluid all over the dipstick. There is no clear level line.

I’m going through the same problem on my Toyota Tacoma. No clear level reading. It’s just cold & hot & mine is now inches past hot. Mine was so low. It says my tranny can take 2.1 qts. I first did half a court all while the truck running. Truck tranny was whining a little. I put another half in. Truck is driving worse than before.. it won’t shift gears past 2nd and it’s an automatic. It will barely go in reverse. I heard maybe I need a new shift solenoid? I have no clue and I’m worried to go to a transmission shop to get ripped off thousands.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I had this exact problem with my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo wj 4.0 in-line 6 for the longest time. All my life I've been told to check transmission fluid with the vehicle in park. I looked up the specifics for my vehicle, and it says that I am supposed to check it in neutral. Then I actually read the dipstick, and there it was also, right on the dipstick saying to check the transmission fluid in neutral. So I followed the same steps except I now put it in neutral and get a good clean reading everytime.

If you don't have a syphon, a water bottle spray nozzle can get out the extra fluid and even pull the dirty fluid settled in the bottom
@kalani1987
@kalani1987 Год назад
If you don't have a dipstick, checking the fluid will require you to get under the car and remove the drain plug while the car is running and being a certain temperature

A lot of older chrysler/dodge/jeep models have a tube labeled “for dealership use only” which you can then order a dipstick for (or if you can’t wait then take the oil dipstick and clean it off really well and use that, they are the same length)

Do this. Run the engine until its hot. When that temp gauge is about in the middle and sitting there hot. Step out of your vehicle and check your transmission dipstick. If it reads overfilled drain about a qt out. You gotta use your best judgment here. Then check again it should be fine. Or if its reading low add very small amounts of atf at a time like 8 oz tops and let it sit for a minute in between adds to warm up and expand the new fluid. Check dipstick again until at proper level. Buy the proper atf too. Do not try and use universal or japanese vehicle atf. Only use what nissan says to use. Which is nissan matic s you should be able to get some from a nissan stealership easily. You dont have to overthink it at all. Check your levels before doing all of this and buy atf if needed.

I hava a 4l60E AT and I need to know how much ATF should be in the pan when the trans is COLD. Anyone know? I put the trans back in after an engine swap with whatever fluid was in the converter. That's the reason I am asking, I don't know how much was in the converter because it always stayed in place and I just raised it to the bell housing, put the bolts in and worked backwared to the rear axle. Is there a SAFE amount to put in the pan?

Our 2009 Nissan Sentra has a manual transmission. It started to give some jerks right at the beginning of driving (when you start to drive in the morning). It happens in the 1st gear when you just release the clutch pedal, jerks somewhere in the area of front passenger wheel, like that wheel can't rotate for a second or smth, then goes normally. If you bring it to stop and then start to drive all that repeats. The problem continues for ~10 min. After that no jerking after stops. Is it smth w/brakes on the FP side or it is smth w/transmission (like low on transmission fluid)? I've recently went over a curb w/that particular side (PS), but I don't remember if the problem started right after that or later. I would appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thank you for a great and informative film.

If the fluid is at the correct level, it will need to be diagnosed, but is the fluid dirty or looks very black? It may need the fluid changed and a new transmission filter. There may also be codes that a scan tool can read and point to the issue.

My 2015 chevy cruze lt gets stuck in gear when accelerating but only after a few hours of driving. Could this be too much or too little fluid?
@HVAC_Mechanic
@HVAC_Mechanic Месяц назад
It's possible, but the fluid needs to be checked to know for sure. Unfortunately, the Cruze does not have an ATF dipstick but a plug on the transmission. The check procedure requires getting the trans fluid up to 185F, leveling the vehicle, transmission in Park, and the fluid check plug removed. If filled correctly, fluid will drip out.

when I do allot of stop and go on a hot day and my thermostat climbs a little higher then normal I've noticed my vehicle won't accelerate until maybe I hit 10 to 15 mph then it will drive normal. My RPMs don't go up even though the gas petal is floored so it's not slipping. It basically acts like if your in a standard transmission car and u try to take off in 2nd or 3rd no matter how much gas u give it, it won't accelerate until it hits the proper speed. Could this be an issue with transmission fluid being to high or something else wrong with the transmission?

Had a blazer for a few months. Checked the fluid when I got it and the trans fluid was astronomically high, but didn’t have a way to drain it. It’s been fine for about 6 months, and all of a sudden today it just stopped shifting completely. No reverse, nothing. Turned it off for a minute and turned it back on and drove home slow, but now it’s fine again. I’m gravity draining it now through the dipstick, but would this be a sign of a bad trans, or too much fluid? I know I need new fluid as this fluids darker than normal, but I’m worried I’ll need a new trans and I don’t have the money for it rn
