Rather than "Present", when present and future are lumped as opposed to the past (which happens in many languages), we say "Past/Non-Past". There are some, extremely rare languages, which use Future/Non-Future. Looking at Latin, is there any study into it showing possible extension of Past Tense into the future. I noticed that amaB is the stem for both the past and future, but the B isn't in the present (where a/i separate the past/future).

Hi, professor Jurgen handke, it's still difficult for me to understand when linguists talk about OT Optimality Theory, especially in phonetics and phonology, what do they mean by this? Would you mind making a video by explaining it clearly ? I am more excited by your lectures it really makes me become a good linguist. Truly saying, I learn more by your lectures . Please a small video by explaining OT Theory'll be very very very helpful. I beg you please, Help!

I'm no expert, but, as a native speaker of English, I would say that "John will keep an eye on Jane." is a future tense with future sense. Any other proposed nuance seems to me to be forced. I love these vids, by the way.

Tense is a morphological notion. And in this respect, Present-Day only has two tenses: The present and the past. Yet, there are several options of addressing future time events, or as you said "future sense".

Nai61a .. "will" is not a tense, but a modal auxiliary which HELPS to express a future meaning. English only two tenses (or forms of the verb): past (add -ed or change the vowel - do/did) and non-past, if you like. There is no ending added to the verb to make a future tense. The same is true of all other Germanic languages of which English is a member.
