in this weeks video we dive into the mysteries of synchronizing dual 48 IDA's. It's truly not that difficult once you understand what you are doing. With good products, and a good foundation, it can be done once and repeated only when needed. I will go further into the details of a base tune, jetting, and ignition in the future, but for now let's just sync the carbs. #diyautorepair #volkswagen #vwbus #upgrade #letsgo #better #geneberg #48ida's

The Ross Wulf parts look amazing as well. I wish they had a 356 sized alternator pulley setup. I use those to get a higher fan speed and aid in cooling.

Great job on the video, one of the best example of how to balance/tune dual cabs I’ve seen.

Just what I needed. Been trying to get things just right on my new 2007 cc engine using Delorto dual 40s.

For Dells, do1/2 turns and wait for the response. They are very fine threads on the air fuel adjustment screws.

Always thorough with your explanations. Just inherited a set of Dellortos 45s and will reference this video when I get tgem cleaned and installed. A friend of mine has the Dellorto book in his garage and no more VWs so I think I'll make the drive and go pick it up.

Dells require a half turn not a quarter to a whole turn on the mixture screws for response. 👍🏽finer threads.

Very knowledgeable, can you do a carb adjustment on a vw bug especially because of the less space
@vayabroder729
@vayabroder729 3 месяца назад
Yes you can but many open up windows on the body inside the rear wheel wells. They just cut sections of metal there and make them replaceable so you just take them out when you need access to the carbs for adjustment and then put them back.

That was a great video. And you quoted the late “GB” with buy once, cry once!! Did you drilled the 3 holes on the deck lid for cooling?

Love your vids. Have a question about changing exhaust on a 1970 Bay Window bus - 1600 (single port single PICT30/3 SOLEX). Put on a merged header and new muffler. Bus starts perfectly and idles nicely. Good torque and happy about more power on the top end. When I was re assembling the engine compartment pans and hoses, etc. I noticed a tube laying unconnected on one end. It went from the intake manifold to the altitude corrector. I put it back on, but it isn't very snug and probably needs a clamp. Anyhow, I fired it up and test drove it and then drove it from my dad's driveway to my house (~45 miles - mostly highway ~ 60mph). On about 2 -3 occasions I got a pop when shifting from 1-2nd and a little mild popping when foot off accelerator going down steepi-sh hill. If I change the exhaust from a rusted out stock exhaust to a merged header....do I need to adjust my carb?

Pops on deceleration are usually too rich, or an exhaust leak. Make sure you adjust fuel mixture at operating temperature. With a longer trip like you did, the motor definitely got to temperature.

@@the_Wagen On the single port engine, I think I am going to take the plunge and go Weber 34 ICT, (you didn't seem to be a big fan of these). If I had dual port engine, I think I would go IDF, but with single port what do you think of ICT? What do you think of the CB Performance MagnaSpark? I haven't seen the part number, but it seems I have BOSCH Vacuum advance with points - blue BOSCH coil.

A properly tuned single port carb should run like a sewing machine. You have a problem somewhere. As far as carbs. 34 ict carbs are junk. I’d go single port Kadrons first. If you are having issues with a single carb currently, dual carbs are not always the solution. Don’t upgrade till you get the issues fixed. CB Magna Sparks are great. I’d recommend them.

My FI was taken out by the PO and they put on a single progressive carb (I know, I know). Been looking into dual carbs but it has terrified me as I'm still fairly new into this hobby, especially with engine work - I'm not real familiar with carb adjustments, etc. I'm in PA with no local shops either, so I'm going to try to do this on my own. Is there a good dual carb set up that's easy to work with? I can always upgrade down the road but want to feel comfortable doing it. I have type 4 / 2.0. Would the Solex 34 dual carbs be ok?
@the_Wagen
@the_Wagen 5 месяцев назад
I’d recommend EMPI HPMX carbs. They are affordable and work well. I’ve been running mine for 11 years no issues.

@@the_Wagen I appreciate it!!! I'm only asking those like yourself who are around VW's daily. You should open a shop in Central Pennsylvania, specifically in Altoona, Pennsylvania. haha! Thank you though, I appreciate you.

I had my Bug almost a year. I like to go dual carbs, but I like to know is it worth doing does it make the engine run better or save gas? I see people do it. I’m just curious cause I would like to do it. I have a 1641 engine I was looking at you, Solex carbs, is it worth getting?
@the_Wagen
@the_Wagen 3 месяца назад
If you are looking to upgrade, I’d suggest upgrading the ignition at the same time. Stock components and just adding dual carbs works if everything else works well. 👍🏽
@rodvisser1580
@rodvisser1580 3 месяца назад
Yeah, I got the ignition added already I’m just trying to look for consistency. It’s my daily driver. It’s nice and clean engine, nice and clean transmission nice and clean. no oil anywhere. that’s why I was wondering if dual carburetters would help my car out. thank you for your time for helping me.
@the_Wagen
@the_Wagen 3 месяца назад
If I were to add dial carbs, I’d stay with an IDF / HPMX platform. Kadrons, Solex, ICT’s are not my favorite.

@@the_Wagenmy Squareback came with Weber 34ICT carbs and Empi components. I also have the CB manifold and crossbar linkage (not installed yet). Tell us why you don’t like these carbs. I had a set on my 75 Beetle back around 1988.
@the_Wagen
@the_Wagen 2 месяца назад
@@jimgerock9190THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. ICT carbs seem to have blown throttle shafts out of the box. Plus most single throat carbs are "sloppy". The IDF design(dual throat) revs quickly when properly tuned, and are more efficient.
