There is a mistake in the title of the video. It should be 'Afghan President' not 'Afghani President'. Afghani is the name of the currency of Afghanistan.

Taraki asked Brezhnev for the military intervention for many times, because of loosing control over the country, as USA had started to support the mujahedeen back in 1978, in order to increase the probability of Soviet intervention (what was mentioned by Bzhezinsky in one of his later interviews). But, till Taraki was alive, soviets refused, not wanting to be dragged into a civil war, and sent only military advisors. Only Taraki's assassination by Amin, and latter's mass repressions against pro-tarakists, became the last straw. And the position of KGB hawks, who woted for sending of own military, had prevailed, as they painted Amin as a future pro-western fascist dictator. Although, had they sent soviet forces earlier, it could be more efficient and less violent.

Hafizullah Amin living in America was a huge concern for them as well, they were looking for any CIA documents when they raided the Tajbeg Palace

With PDPA gradually losing control of the country, Soviet intervention would have occurred anyway, no matter would Taraki be assassinated or not. It was inevitable since the Saur Revolution.

@@reymet_2jerjerrod65 It has become a big challenge for the Afghanistan workers state. with progressive policies that shook landlords, reactionary clergy, and other semi-feudalists, so that Carter was interested in financing them through the CIA.
