(6 Feb 1979) In Rawalpindi Pakistan's strong-man leader, General Zia Al Haq now faces the most difficult political dilemma since he ousted Zulkifar Ali Bhutto from power nearly two years ago. The narrowness of the Supreme Court's ruling by four votes to three that Bhutto must hang puts Gen Zia under great pressure to show clemency. Coupled to that are the appeals from world leaders including British Prime Minister James Callaghan and President Jimmy Carter urging mercy. The international commission of jurists has also thrown its weight behind appeals for clemency. General Zia is interviewed following the decision to uphold the death sentence.
