I just got into the Synergy stuff..I think it sounds great…I have a Marshall Jubilee head I bought new in 87,an 800,EVH 5150III,and have owned many, many great amps over the years, and the Synergy stuff sounds just as good..I run mine thru the Power Station in “self attenuation mode”then the line out into an AxeFXIII for FX and IR’s…or for live use, line out into pedal board, then into an old Marshall 9005 stereo power amp…sounds absolutely ridiculous!..Friedman BE-DLX and IICP are my favorites at the moment…

Seems like the powerstation could be eliminated from that signal path. Running the 9005 would make the Fryette redundant.

@@FastRedPonyCar not really, the synergy modules are just preamps..plug into Fryette, turn it up LOUD to get some power amp mojo, then send the line out to the 9005 to control the overall volume….same as you would do running an amp head into a load box, then to another power amp….obviously if I am running the modules into an interface and studio monitors,I don’t need the 9005,because the amplifier in the monitors is doing that job..it’s just taking the sound of a cranked up amp, knocking it down to line level and reamping it,just making the modules and the Fryette the “amp head”..

@@scottpeters4401 Ah ok I was under the impression that you were running the 9005 out to a pair of cabinets or something and if that were the case, you'd get your power amp coloration from that and not really need the Fryette. Since recording this video, I've run the SYN1 into the Fryette and then into the OX Box for reverb/delay and then to my interface and it sounds outstanding. IMO, the OX box is one of the best things I've ever bought in a LONG time. ZZounds sent it to me to demo but I liked it so much I ended up buying it, which is also what I did with the Neumann MT48 interface.

@@FastRedPonyCar yeah,if I am running live or thru cabs, the 9005 powers my cabs…think of the Synergy module and Fryette as a Marshall head…you load it down with a load box, crank up the volume of the amp until you get the amount of power amp saturation you want, silently, then send the line out into another power amp to make that sound louder or audible..basically I am treating the modules/Fryette as an amp head…this way makes the modules sound more like the amp, than just connecting them to a power amp..the IICP module sounds insane in this setup, you get some of that power amp grind of the original amp..or the Plexi module where you really need that power amp saturation to get that sound..The Ox is great..I own more load boxes than anyone should,if I didn’t have the AxeFXIII,I would definitely use the OX..the stereo room mic’s are killer..I am thinking of getting the Ox Stomp just for that feature alone..

The Synergy system is great! So many modules to choose from (which I don't think is a bad thing) for many styles of music. I don't feel they are too pricey compared to the alternative of the real amps and while they are not as good as the real amps, they do sound great at a fraction of the cost. I think the Uberschall is my favorite but I also own or have owned the Engl Savage, the new Drect and the XTC. Of those the XTC was my least favorite but still good.

I've heard the ENGL is incredible. I really want to try the Deliverance module. I played a D60 years and years ago at a little store in Nashville and it was one of the best sounding amps I've ever plugged into. It was the first generation so it didn't have channel switching or a loop so I kind of dismissed it.

How does it work with your OX Stomp? Fwiw, I had one of these and didn't get a long with it. I like the old Randall XTC module better. Put another way, I don't think the synergy module beat that just on straight tone.

With just the OX Stomp, the voice of the sound is there and sounds great and it really does capture the essence of how an XTC is voiced but the structure isn't right. I tried running this into some of my amp's power sections and while it sounds ok, none of those are transparent and they color the sound in ways I didn't really hate but didn't really like either. Using the power station then to the OX stomp is much better and everything sounds and feels right. I think the SYN50 head may be next but I'm hoping they bring the Syn30 back into production because it has a built in clean channel and can do internal load resistance letting you run DI out from that into whatever speaker sim/IR loader you want and not having to use a cab.

@@FastRedPonyCar Thanks, makes sense. I got into the Randall MTS thing quite a while ago. A friend sold me a RM-4 (rack unit that holds 4 modules) with 4 modules. They were discontinued by then and pre synergy, and seemed like nobody wanted the stuff so I'd look for $125 modules on ebay and send them to Jaded Faith to be modded into something else. Then I picked up a RM50 head (like the syn50), sent that out for mods, always getting better. Then found another RM50. Still have all that stuff plus a SYN1 an about 3/4 synergy modules. Anyway, the power amp or amp it goes into really can make or break this stuff. The Syn1 in the loop of the RM50, the syn1 sounds just like the modules in the amp. Also have an Egnater sw45 amp and the syn1 works great in that too, like it sounds like the same power section. That stuff is all fun, but at the end of the day these days, I just want to plug into an amp and be done. The Nitro really fills that bill for me, or one of the Z amps if I want something cleaner. Maybe zounds can can send you a Syn50? BTW, you are getting great sounds whatever you plug into.

@@AdamGotheridge yeah it's that age old separate preamp and poweramp conundrum that's been around ever since I guess the 80's when that stuff started getting popular. I first cut my teeth on it with my first mesa studio preamp and it seemed like no matter what I plugged it into, I got a great "images and words" in a box type sound but I quickly realized it never felt right until I got a carvin T50 EL34 tube amp and then it was like magic. I sold that to help pay for the nitro and eventually got another studio preamp that had never been played and was still new in the box. Had to be the rarest out there and held onto that until covid and someone offered me a TON of money for it so that was that. I think my 2nd mesa preamp sounded really great through the power station also but I've always wanted to hear if the Fryette/VHT two/ninety/two is as good as the absolutely mythical hype on the internet. As for plug and play, I think the Syn50 is the ticket.

@@FastRedPonyCar mythical probably really does mean that. I had an early Marshall 9000 pre/power amp, that never really sounded any good, but you’d think it should. The fryette, as cool and a good product as it is, just can’t see spending that kind of money for that and would rather put that towards a new promod or quickrod. Good luck with your journey, and it will be interesting to watch.
