The fact that this reminds me of your beach delay and loop forest is somehow magical. *It’s almost like the same person made them,* he said as a dig on himself.
I love these "from scratch" videos no matter the device. I've mostly made guitar/band-focused music for years but I have recently dipped my toes into making electronic music. These videos where you aren't just going through feature sets but rather just showing what it's like to actually make music on it has helped me get my head around the different kinds of workflows and to understand what sparks my creativity the most. Even when it's on hardware I know I will never touch or afford (I now know that modular is not for me) it's great to see what it's like to make creative decisions in different types of environments and you manage to keep it entertaining throughout.
Every time you do a "from scratch" video on a small square elektron box I think it would be really nice to have a collection of them myself so I could make neat songs too. But I know from repeated experience that I just can't get along with elektron interfaces, and whatever it is that you've got that lets you put together such cool jams I don't got. So I just have to make my own jams on my own equipment and enjoy your elektron box videos instead.
I'm pretty sure with a bit of experience you can definitely make cool stuff on Elektron gear too. I've moved to a 100% Elektron set up and and zero regrets so far. Years ago I got a Digitakt and Digitone and after a while I got frustrated and sold them. But it was as I was learning how to make music from absolute beginner but now I've got more accomplished the Elektron workflow makes so much more sense to me and it feels really quite easy to get some nice sounds in no time at all. Have a Digitakt, Syntakt, Analog 4 and recently got a Digitone (again). Think it's about just putting in the time as with all instruments. I can definitely see how they can feel frustrating though. I still swear at them from time to time though 😆
Cannot second the guy above me enough - sold all my Elektron shit then recently repurchased a Digitone and branched out into the A4 mk2. It seems to be a common trend amongst Elektron/former Elektron owners; intense relapse once you understand how insanely good they are in their absence.
@@evanmscala I went through A LOT of other gear to get back to Elektron. Many many synths, groove boxes and samplers and sequencers. Music definitely quells my OCD, ADHD or whatever I've got. A very big part of moving back to Elektron was also I couldn't handle my entire desk taken up with big keybaords, synths and wires. The audio routing was complex and it triggered me. With the gear I have now A42, Syntakt, DT, DN and AH2 it all sits neatly on my desk, the cables are all managed neatly and you just turn them on and you're back to where you left off in a few seconds. For me that's a huge factor. Add in the absolutely brilliant fun sequencing and sound design tools at my disposal and I feel at ease more than any other combination before. It's taken a long time to get here but I'm not going to change again (🤞😆)
It’s all relative I guess. I’ve recently switched over from a Digitone Keys being my primary sequencer to using an MPC Live II because 4 tracks just didn’t seem to work for one beat per step. I really thought about getting a Syntakt but decided I wanted to try a straightforward groove box approach because I didn’t think I needed analog drums. But with 12 tracks, the Syntakt does seem capable of being that all in one solution that allows you to program one beat per step and keep everything at your fingertips. I would like to ask Jeremy to pair a NDLR with the Syntakt two way to trigger different patterns and key changes.
@@EshockT definitely. The Digitone (/Keys) does feel limited by only 4 tracks. I've been on holiday this week with just the Digitone and actually the limitation of 4 tracks has forced me to be economical and actually I've made some quite nice little tracks because usually I try and use as many tracks as possible because they're there 😆 The Syntaks 12 are pretty handy though.
Love the “from scratch” videos. You do a great job of just narrating your process which helps me a ton. I don’t have a syntakt and probably won’t, but I feel like what you do is super transferable to my workflow anyway. I know you didn’t make this video for me, but it was exactly what I needed! Unless you did make this video just for me (don’t worry I won’t tell anybody), then thanks!
oh yes! this is exactly what I've been hoping for! i'm loving my syntakt and after spending awhile tweaking knobs on all the preset songs I started dipping into making my own. Thanks for showing this off!
I’ve been hooked on your music since you did your Roli Seaboard presentation, which is still one of my favorite music related videos to date. Next to that, the OP1 videos have also been really awesome. Thus far, listening to the Syntakt for the first time, I can say with confidence that it sounds really good! I love your creative process of composing music.
Nice. Have had my Digitakt for a while now and still trying to get my head around the workflow. I guess in retrospect I should have held out for the Syntakt but hey the DT is still a capable beatmaker. Love what you're able to achieve with this.
Dang it. missed the release of this one, stuck in western MI. 3 of my favorite things together; RMR, crows, and a woman's right to make her own health decisions. take all my monies now.
Love this, very nice to see what you do with the ST as it is my Prime Synth Baby ❤️ Really enjoy these from scratch videos, hope you decide to do more if you enjoy doing it!
Sounds awesome as usual! This is my fav genre. Nice work brotha. Loving the flash cards too I think my daughter has something similar to those. Have a good gig!
Really appreciate this. This will be my jumping off point to getting deeper into machine. The trig lock universe really has me stumped so far. First adult groove box. Really impressed with your campaign too.
I was so sure after getting the digitakt that I'd get an ms-20 next. It was so sure. I was so 100% sure. Now I'm not so sure... Damn you Jeremy, damn you elektron. (Love you both)
i like hearing "Caaaaaaww" when the wind lightly Wooshes thru the trees in my parts of town. In my parts several of us sit on half acres and feed stray cats.
Awesome stuff! Makes me inspired to transform the stuff I've been making on my Syntakt! Now I gotta find a video on trying to arrange a live set on it...
Nice walk through 👌 Great to see how you work with the Syntakt. It's very different from how I've been using it (I mostly live record everything. Just keep playing badly and clearing the track until I get it right 😆). I'll give the grid record mode a go 👍
Great video! I am a huge fan of the "from scratch" style video and your music in general. I am learning the Syntakt after getting proficient with the MC-707. There are some things I love about the 707, other things that I feel are implemented much better on the Syntakt. However, I find myself getting confused about which track is doing what on the Syntakt. Do you have any tips on how to organize tracks on the Syntakt (or any Elektron box)? For example, does it make sense to have track 1 always be the kick? Track 2, snare, etc? With both digital and analog options on the Syntakt, I find myself unsure about what each track should be doing and how to stay organized. Am I overthinking this?
@@JustinKimball yeah, I don’t think it’s that though. I mean I have the octatrack and digitone. For me it’s about redundancy. I don’t see, at least right now, how this is necessary for my studio. I want to like it but for whatever reason it doesn’t resonate with me. Maybe I’m growing out of my GAS, or maybe I’m gonna dive into modular (again) and wanna save my $$$ lolz!
@@joshuamorganmusic I think Jeremy is just showing things you can do with different gear that he’s interested and isn’t trying to tell you that you NEED to buy these things.
Everytime I see one of these it’s so anti intuitive thst it seems basically impossible to find a workflow that has a actual flow to it at all. Just menu diving so extensive it resembles paralegal work…Joyless.
I know you’re feeling some kinda way about your channel right now, but I would honestly watch a million hours of your “from scratch” videos, regardless of the hardware/software used. 🤍
