Step Triggered Chords | Mini Synth Tutorial ft. the Korg Volca Keys
Hey guys! So, I was recently asked how to achieve the rhythmic, percussive sounding chords that were used in a previous video. This inquiry not only gave me the idea to create a new video, but to create a whole new series of mini tutorials!
These mini tutorials will be called, Synth Sounds. They will be just a few minutes in length and focus on sound design/patch creation. :) I think this will be a fun video series and will make a great addition to the littleBIGsynths channel.

Nice , I like how you highlighted the knobs , you should add in Function + clear all step too incase beginners don't know how to get a clear pattern . Looking forward to more like this

I don't believe I used any delay for this patch... 🤔 so feel free to mess around with it. 😉 Use the tempo Delay function to ensure tempo locked repeats. 👍

Yes. The mini tutos are great. Gets straight to the point. No blabla. Perfect. Am more into the jams in general but still I'd definitely watch tutos like That, too.

+Ludwig Kopp Thanks, man! Glad you enjoy the jams. :) Doing tutorials and demos give me more opportunities to put up content... So I don't get stressed out trying to put a brand new jam ever week. Haha The jams come when they come. Lol I definitely will continue to focus on jams though, because they are a lot of fun. :D

got midi cable at guitar center today, using the arp and seq and strum and chord features on my keystep37 on the volca keys. it's pretty damn magical, man.

Heck yeah!! 🙌 Yeah, the keystep can really help bring the Volca Keys to life! Congrats on the Keystep 37 too... I would like to pick one up one day. Those features seem really cool. I have the OG Keystep and the Keystep Pro, which are also great midi keyboards. 😉👍

Hi, could you please explain how to save a pattern you have recorded to memory, so you can play it back later. Can't seem to find this info anywhere! Don't have a manual at the moment. Thanks!

Yeah, no problem! To save a sequence, simply press and hold the FUNC + MEMORY button down; then select from the 8 memory slots (M1-M8) on the touch keyboard/sequencer. Hope that makes sense. 🙂👍

Playing the vKeyd touch keyboard can be a challenge to play chords on, but this can be avoided by using a MIDI keyboard... or extreme skill/precision. 😉👍

Hey man awesome video ! I have a little question for you ! . How do i connect my volca to my pc and then be able to send midi information from my daw to the volca and be able to record that ? Thanks !

Thank you very much! 😀 I guess it would all depend on your DAW... but generally: You will need a USB to MIDI interface. Then it is just a matter of matching the MIDI channel output from your DAW to the channel on your Volca. MIDI can then be sent from your computer via USB and then converted to standard 5 pin MIDI cable which will connect to your Volca. That is basically it. The exact setup within your DAW will vary.

Yes! Correct! Audio output from your device goes into your sounds card / audio interface to be recorded. 👍🏻

Great! I've got my volca in front of me testing it out, going to get my sequencer out soon to write a pattern using this technique. I'd wrote stuff in the past and not realised what the step trigger did and now know why long notes I was playing were triggering like that, it really confused me and I gave up thinking my volca was broken. Tutorials like this are really helpful, specially when korgs own manuals are very sparse. Thanks!
