I found a Jupiter 4 for $10 at a rubbish dump recycling shop, it was rusty and full of leaves and dead bugs. It made sound but the pitch would leap around insanely by itself at random, it was beyond my ability to fix so I gave it away to someone who wanted it for parts.

Now I understand why, in another episode, after finding, restoring and presenting a synth to a guy who had wanted that particular model for many years, you then asked him " is there any particular car you've been wanting for a long time?" I was thinking; " oh, does he know his cars as well? " Now it makes total sense. Beautiful motor you have there.

It's 4 years late, but, cool option for the control mods that dont alter anything or require drilling is push pull pots like in guitar world on amps and guitars. The pot would accept same knob but would give great double control. Also can get pots with buttons in center. Hope you guys see this message and helps. Love your channel and videos. @@MisAnnThorpe Hi, sorry for a late reply, but better late than never. Yes, we are. It did well in the UK too, stayed low in the national chart for 11 Weeks, with sales of over 250,000 enough for top 10 or more if condensed down to a couple of Weeks. We got unfairly weighted down the chart by Gallup the company running the chart. In other charts such as Capital radio we reached number 2, also it was club smash hit. Hope this helps clear things up a little. VPX

I've used all three of the Jupiters in my time. The JP8 is a monster and one of my all-time favourites, and I have owned or used at least a dozen in my day. The JP6 is not even in the same ballpark. Cheaply built and is actually closer to a Juno. The JP4 was a classic in it's day, but felt more like a paraphonic than a polyphonic, but alongside the SH505 strings and the ProMars, they were the business at that point in history.

FYI, you can buy "printable" slide transfer paper. White printing is harder since you will need a printer capable of printing in white ink (most printers do the white by using the paper as the white areas). But you can buy color laser printers that do print white. Also, if you own the slide paper you can have a local print shop do the printing as many own a printer capable of printing in white ink. This can be a huge help if you get stuck finding a match for a given label printed on a synth. If all you need is black or another color you can use most laser printers to print your decals and the number of fonts available to match your existing is huge and makes a match much easier to find..

Maybe I’m ‘too isolated’ from the media. IF this show hasn’t appeared on a major mainstream media network like Lifetime, or maybe even FOX, then WHY HADN’T IT?! This gentleman Mr. Mims, is definitely the real deal when it comes to these classic synths. For him to have seemingly produced this program on his own dime, and if his own capacity while working on this gear, it’s a very impressive feat! These episodes haven’t just been influential in at least my interests in electronics and MIDI / electronic studio gear, but also in combating my fears of stepping forward out of my comfort zones and into the unknown to where is to me uncharted territory, and finally learning so much more due to some risks that can be be costly. THANKS FOR SHARING EVERYTHING! True entrepreneurship! Curious, any relation to the infamous, Forrest M., III?

I am late to your channel…but one thing to maybe consider for a non-destructive on/off switch is to mount a magnetic reed switch under the panel. You can the. Use a magnet to turn on and off a circuit. You could rig up a switch that just sits on case( also held by hidden magnets under case) and there you go. Easily removable and completely non-destructive.

I used to have a Jupiter 4 and have played on a JP8 before. I never fell in love with these. The 4 was definitely more my style but after a few songs I sold it for maybe $400. I can't believe how much people try to get for them now. It's one of those synths I would be interested in picking up if it was a third the price. Oh well. I have three Soviet monsters on their way right now. Estradin 230, Polivoks, and EM25 string synthesizer. All three are way more my style than the Jupiters. Favorite thing about the early Rolands are those wonderful, thick sliders. Makes the Moogs and ARPs feel like junk.

I just bought a pretty rare analog synth (I've never even seen one before) it's an Ekosynth P15 which is immaculate and even came with the original Eko pedal too. It's a preset synth switchable to manual mode. In manual mode it sounds like a cross between a Roland Jupiter and Moog. I hooked it up to a delay and reverb and couldn't put the thing down. I'm currently looking to see if it could be converted to basic midi or CV. Great video, I love these old Jupiters
