The greatest synthesizer music from the eighties is back! Synthesizer Legends Volume 1 is a collection of cover tunes of famous and less well-known instrumental synthesizer gems from the eighties. The songs are arranged and performed by me using only analog synthesizers and analog drum machines. Some of the songs on the album have been part of my live repertoire for many years already, while other songs are completely new arrangements:

I normally love Kebu's covers and reimagining of classic synth pieces but I have to admit to being a bit underwhelmed by this album. Compared to his usual work, much of the album feels a little thin to me. I did not want to make a knee-jerk post and so I waited until I had listened to the album many times over several weeks before posting - often that reveals to me much that I had missed. There are some excellent jumping off points in each track; points from which I originally thought "here it comes" but they petered-out without finding their potential or were flashes which ended quickly, leaving just the main theme but somehow very thin compared to the original. Perhaps reluctance on Kebu's part. Perhaps he feels too much in awe of the original to let out the full extent of his creativity. I appreciate covering such legends in an novel way and such creativity being acceptable to fans is a fine line between being faithful to the original and integrating well crafted extensions to the original themes. I hope Kebu will revisit these pieces soon. This time with the sense of adventure of which we all know he is capable.
