I thought one of the pros to synthetic ice was the increased effort required so when you get on regular ice you can breeze (like taking practice swings with a heavy bat)
I don't see how they would work on ice. Because you move by slightly melting the ice you're on and the wheels wouldn't give enough friction or surface area on the ice to allow you to move forward. They would probably act more like a toepick, I could be completely wrong with my thoughts on it though.
If you watch the Video in 0.25 Speed, you can see, that he started to turn his shoes a bit early, yes. But the presure only aplies at the cone. But so or so, he just wanted to show, how fast these shoes can stop you.
I'll bet if you train with regular skates on synthetic ice you'll feel like your flying when you get back on real ice. Probably you'll be going faster too.
hey pavel, i saw you at the richmond ice centre on friday training with some kids. I cant believe I got too see you. My buds were absolutely amazed to see u and it was a great experience watching you!!!
working on the agility blades are good if you are not working on skating but if you want to work on skating than use normal skates because if you skate till it feels easy than when you get on actual ice you'll be faster and it will take less effort
I would argue against that. The resistance when using regular skates makes some kids change there form and cheat in certain ways. The Agility Blades allow you to keep it more ice like...more ice like the better. Definitely wouldn't hurt the skating.
But, the circumference is much longer than the diameter. You know, that whole C=2rPi thing. So roughly just under 3x. If you take the skate blade and break it up into segments, you're going to have much shorter lengths than the lengths of edge offered by a wheel. I think it would be reasonable to assume you could therefore sharpen less often.
some of the drag of conventional blades on synthetic ice is some of the training benefit I was always so much faster getting back on the ice in the fall. it almost forced good skating form
In Cambodia? I mean I live in a diverse community so I've seen just about anyone from any background playing hockey, including a Cambodian. But if you play in Cambodia now THAT'S something else.
So... synthetic ice sounds lame.... Like finding it... Finding a place to sharpen them sounds difficult... meh, rather stay a purist in that regard. Cool invention... currently sounds like more of a hindrance.
I know this is an old vid, but why does he practice stick handling without gloves? Gloves as well as elbow pads are the biggest hinderance when it comes to wrist movement and freedom/flexibility when stick handling.
Does anyone know if these are still being sold. The Agility shop link doesn't go anywhere, and the Facebook page hasn't been updated for a year. Doesn't look good!!!
Probably not. Most hockey shops have every inch accounted for due the variety of stuff they carry and sell. You'll probably have to find a very specialized store for this. I have been to 2 hockey specialty stores for replacement wheels. People have heard of these but are nowhere close to carrying them, much less allocating the space and practice for the sharpener. Of course that is just reflective of where I live.
So, is this your regular practice routine? If so, how come youre not practicing with any gear on? not even the gloves? wouldnt this make you move abit diffrent in general since youre not encumbered by it?
Dont have to pay a lot of money for ice time. Unless the prices have dropped significantly in the past few years they were selling these sheets of plastic for 500 bucks a pop. while they do last 15+ years its still not very cost effective to have 20g tied up in a small little surface
I have a problem, I've skated for a few years now, I'm comfortable on both, ice and roller skates, but I've moved cities and as I live in Spain there NO skating rinks in here in my city, however there is a synthetic ice rink not far away from it and I went there and when I tried the ice it was really slippery and didn't slide at all so I've read you are supposed to heat the blade before skating, however, my problem isn't that it doesn't slide much it's that its slippery and before you can even push to slide your legs have slipped, that's why I was wondering is it a problem of the quality of the ice or are you supposed to heat the blade? Sorry that was confusing 😂 I just really don't want to give up on skating and there's no way I can skate on the synthetic ice like I'm doing rn (btw I do figure skating) so uhhh please help xD
I think I saw a roller skate that is alot like these....they have anywhere from 6-8 wheels...has anyone else seen these...I have tried to find them...to no avail
Big news for those that skate on synthetic ice. The Mel's Rink Foundation has developed the V GAP Blade. A new blade for skating on synthetic ice. There Is No Comparison Between Traditional Full Length Skate Blades And The V GAP Blade, when Skating On ANY Synthetic Ice Surface. The V GAP Blade Is 100% BETTER! Better Glide. Better Turning. Better Control. Better Experience. Actually Feels Like Skating On Ice. The V GAP Blade is a game changer for the synthetic ice industry. You can see the blade in action, read more about how the blade works, on the website. www.melsrinkfoundation.org/v-gap-blade.html The V GAP Blade is Pat. Pend
Hey pavel barber, how do you know if it is synthetic ice? I have a shooting pad that is like 20 ft and like 20 ft wide is that synthetic ice? Because it's really slippery with socks on and it looks a lot like ice is that synthetic ice?
Hi Pavel! What do you think is a better off-ice solution; synthetic ice + agility blades OR marsblades on a nice flat surface? Personally, I don't understand why people even consider using synthetic ice because the sensation is nothing like real ice + it totaly dulls your skates withing 15 minutes of "skating" on it.
Never seen these before so maybe a stupid question... if there was a "locked" setting on the wheels would that make them viable for playing on ice and quicker sharpening?
How often do these agility blades need to be sharpened? I hear regular skate blades need to be sharpened after 40-45 minutes of skating on synthetic ice.
"special holder" right there that tells you there is no market for this. good luck sounds like u need to start over to bad the idea is really sweet...simmy ice won't let go stride as much as real ice so the wheels with blades help you bridge the gap
Yeah it is a very tough market to tap into. It relies on people/facilities having synthetic ice which is already a small market. It also isn't easy/convenient to sharpen. But having a special holder is by no means a deal breaker (example: the Marsblades). However, it would help to have a boot attached which they are already thinking off. Thanks for your thoughts!
Pavel Barber thanks for the reply when I say no market I mean as far as it being in EVERY skate sharpening pro shop rink etc. I mean if it gets to that point you are a multi millionaire lol so I guess shouldn't of said no market maybe mainstream is a better term. it would be really cool to see these pick up I'm from Detroit so believe me these would be a hit we have inline hockey rinks all over the place in parks like basketball nets are and it wouldn't be a hard transition to put the synthetic ice down and get kids to switch to that from roller.. cause after all we play roller to fill the summer void of ice... my question is how would the surface fair outdoors open to the elements and heavy use...just shooting ideas man I'm 29 been playing hockey since I was 4 and don't plan on stopping ever and when I see something like this I see logic and also a new level something that could truly replace inline hockey with the right tweaks as long as you can make speed and wear and tear meaning how much abuse you put your body into on synthetic compared to roller hockey or ice...
