2:51 Breakdown of voicings
Here's a quick hands-on tutorial on voicing some synthwave chords. We'll examine a simple progression (F, G, Am, C, F G Am, Em) and I'll show you one example of how I choose to play these chords. I'll use just one hand because, honestly, most synth pads are so "heavy" (they occupy a large portion of frequency space) that you don't need more than a few notes to create really great, full sounding chords. Hope you enjoy!

MangoldProject what would be cool is taking the same chords and showing multiple ways to make use of those chords (or taking a melody and showing the multiple ways to harmonize it), by applying different rhythms, harmonic context, and melody, etc. I think that would really give insight on the many directions you can take chords..

This was great !! I especially like major 7ths, 2nds, sus4, occasionally a 6th. There's this thing about lingering notes that stay on a little longer than normal. But I'm not sure what to call it. Also, there can sometimes be a time-forward note, that comes in a little early, in anticipation of the next chord. But I'm not sure what to call that either.

I want to learn more and more! I want to compose for an RPG but synthwave wont come in much hand now.. because its medieval theme,but later on another chapter i will introduce futuristic theme and them synthwave will come on hand great as a glove 😁 For now its a love that i have for synthwave and those nostalgic 80-90s musics

id love to see more of this style tutorial possibly with a few explanations/general guidelines on when to use added voices/suspensions and how they generally resolve. i am familiar with basic common practice voicing techniques and chord progressions, but when it comes to these more sophisticated voicings, its all trial and error and going by ear for me. also, what is that lovely chorus sound?:)

Hello. I enjoyed this video. This is the very first time that IU have watched one of your videos. Would you be kind enough to tell me where you get your sound from, for the chords you were playing and the Bass sound that you were playing as well. Your music sounds were wonderful to listen to. I absolutely love the sound that you used in this video and would love to acquirer some of those sounds. They were very soothing sounds. I want to thank you for making this video and introducing me to some of these sounds. I wish you continued success with your future videos and musical projects. I also wish you continued success financially as well. Have a wonderful day and week. Please keep making beautiful music.
@MangoldProject

I think in this video those sounds were all stock RD700GX piano sounds. They are by no means special. Any half-decent subtractive synthesizer will give you these sounds and much more (hardware or software).
@robbelliii

These chords sound great especially when played in this context, solo. In a band these complex chords are not required, they will be lost in the mix. The 80s were a simpler time. Not many knew these fancy “jazz chords” back then. I grew up playing in bands and was born in 71 so ask Mr how I know.
@MangoldProject
@MangoldProject Год назад
Fair enough - sometimes simplicity is called for. This depends on what else is present in the mix.

I.. I .. I just can't.... I will never understand chords. The man just presed 4keys that where literally each next to the others, and sounded beautiful and it was already a chord. If i do this, the neighbors call the police.... i give up
@MangoldProject

Haha. Look for videos on "voicing". There are quite a few on my channel that discuss this exact concept. It takes time, and what most people end up doing is memorizing several forms that sound good. If you memorize 5-6 such forms and recall them on the fly you will sound infinitely better.

@MangoldProject
@MangoldProject 2 года назад
People aren't as creative as you think they are. Chord progressions repeat themselves across songs in many different ways and variations. The best way is to sit down and play/transcribe existing songs that you like and look for these patterns. Maybe I'll do a video on this at some point. The other thing you need to learn is thinking in terms of degrees rather than absolute chords. Try watching this video of mine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nzuWldLMw6E.html
