It's about time I show you guys the Fireman side of the Fireman Farmer. My co-worker and friend, Auggie, gives an overview of what we do, ride on, and alarms we go on.
I grew up in Syracuse, back when they had the yellow trucks. Rescue 1 was always and still is, my favorite. It's a freaking beast. Like a craftsman tool box on wheels.
Very informative view of what goes on inside the rescue trucks. One thing I learned which was very informative is regarding why you wear different colored helmets. So much to know and do in the life of a fireman. I'm so proud of all you do Jamie. Always be safe and God Bless our firefighters! ❤
Had the chance to stop at rescue 1 a few years ago to grab a t shirt. They guys there were awesome and welcoming. I’m looking forward to going back soon to get another shirt
Rob K I could work on that there is still a couple guys still at the Rescue Company that went on that alarm. I did not myself. It was the D shift. And it would also have to be approved by the Chiefs office if I was to have any type of video that was pertaining to an alarm. But it seems like it’s been long enough that that would be OK. Good idea

clocksurfer I don’t really know of anyone on the Rescue Co. that really try’s to keep their helmet bright white. Whether anybody admits it or not, everyone wants their helmet to look like they’ve been put to work a time or two.
StueyExMCFD There’s no plan to make the green machine an additional apparatus that we can load up with, say: Cribbing, struts or any other additional tools. It’s just wishful thinking on our part.
Question: unrelated, but with new road construction and detours each and everyday, how is the driver alerted in advance and made aware of unforeseen road closure surprises in order to arrive at each call effectively and efficiently?
Larry Jensen Yeah that’s a pain. Construction crews are supposed to notify and all the city public works are real good about notifying 911 center when streets get closed for work. Then it’s just a matter of passing it on to the next shift and remembering what’s closed.
Spencer Matthews Within SFD, green is our Company tool colors and we take pride in it. Around the firehouse a lot of fixtures and things are painted green.
Kluttch Kyle correct it’s based on the color of the company they belong to. Really the only differentiation is orange tetrahedrons on their helmet if they are lieutenant or captain. Some have a sticker or a leather front also.
Long View Farm Does happen once in a while. I don’t think the Duty Deputy Chief would refuse to help any department within reason, if they asked. It’s a quick process thru 911 center. The Recue also the HazMat go to the county more often for special ops stuff. The Rescue responded 2 counties away to the city of Utica mutual aid for High Angle Rope jobs twice last year.
Jesse Valdez Its a civil service job. Testing is put on by Onondaga County. You also must live in the city of Syracuse to get hired. I don’t believe the county has an entry test schedule right now. You can check online.
