For the first time since the start of the war, the Turkish and Syrian Defense Ministers met in person last week. Above all, it’s the potential image of Erdogan and Assad shaking hands that Syrians in Turkey fear the most. As the Turkish presidential elections get closer, the issue of the 3.5 million Syrians living in Turkey has become a recurring theme in the campaign. FRANCE 24’s team on the ground reports.

No thanks! You’re Muslims aren’t you, least that’s what your Erdogan is always on about. Then take care of your Muslim brothers, why is the care of Muslim refugees out responsibly. We’ve already taken in many refugees out of the goodness of our hearts, they don’t integrate or respect our culture, and our economies aren’t too great right now to support any more. Send them to Arab countries.

13-15 Mio. of Turks are affected by this earthquake. Millions of Turks are currently without house, feed, health care. Turkey will be busy in the next 10-20 years building up the 10 cities destroyed by the earthquakes and feeding the 13-15 million of their own people. The east and south of Turkey currently looks worse than Syria. In Turkey's current situation, no one has the right to say that Turkey's "first priority" should to be the care of nearly 5-7 million Syrian, Afghan etc. refugees. It would be inhumane to say that Turkey should take care of the millions of old/new refugees in this catastrophic situation while "civilized" Europe and "rich" Arabs keep closing their borders to refugees.
