I have a similar unit with all the problems you describe and some more. I actually ran the unit without filters the first year and found out when the filter timer alarmed me. We got it with our newly built house so fault was with installer or systemair. I had no clue it had filters. Then some temp sensors corrodes, there are a few so can be costly but replacement parts are cheap and easy to install. Then the fan motors failed with a really bad noise and then it was time for a bearing replacement. It needs special bearinga that can handle heavy axial load, bearings i general does not like axial load and will wear down fast. So if you buy cheap once, buy many so you can replace often. Work is not difficult. Fan motors are pretty well built but the axial load on the bearings is a design failure. Maybe it can be modded to lower the axial load. Last thing to fail is the rotor motor which sometimes gets stuck and vibrates. Maybe its the capacitors in the very "cheap" expencive motor that fails. Overall I feel the same as you do, why so many faults on a machine that should just run??

Stumbled across your video as I am in a house that has a villavent air system (vx400e) that was put in when the house was built - 19 years ago. We’ve been in the house for 8 years. Touch wood, nothing has ever gone wrong with it. Have I been lucky or is this the kind of longevity one would expect I wonder? I had contemplated turning it on and off on occasion until I read somewhere that it’s designed to be run continuously… maybe I should refrain from doing that. :)

Systemair in Dublin want €750 call-out to look at a faulty unit, absolute rubbish after sales service, they are robbers !!!

tge bearings are standard 608 zz bearings, abit fiddly to change but well worth it. The rotor motor was replaced two times under warranty in my unit and has worked for now 4 years. We should find an alternative to getting these parts form systemair. I do think that the components are well overpriced when bought from systemair . One might even find better rotor motors for the price.. thank you for sharing.

Would you happen to know what bearings go in the VSR500 fans? Also, is the rotor motor serviceable (other than replacing it)?

@@m23605I do not know what bearings for that model but the bearing change on save vtr 300 is easy. No need for special tools (bearing puller) bearings seated in plastic. Often rotor motor failure is because of bad capacitor. Bearing in rotor motor could also be changeable though I have not attempted that yet.

The rotor motor is now a brand new brushless DC motor which has almost no issues in the field (~10-20 cases per 100+k used so far). It was replaced in all systemair models few years ago. I would highly advice not to use just any rotor motor since, the rotor wheel has to run at 10rpm for the best efficiency and if youd buy just any rotor motor - you have no idea what speed youll end up in the end. Regarding fans - thats similar story with all manufacturers since majority uses the same supplier for the fans. Good part is that is pretty easy to replace the bearings. I'd also advice to use stainless steel ones, shielded too. There are videos on how to replace it

Have you a link for the bearing change and a link for where to buy the parts please?

Thank you, I replaced the bearings in my VTR300 it was actually very simple with the right tools. The main thing needed was a torq driver and Knipex 46 11 A0 SB Circlip Pliers for External Circlips on Shafts Black Atramentized Plastic Coated bought from amazon. Bearings were easy, I contacted some specialist bearings places, gave them the old model NSK 608D1 they provided equivalent (actually they said better). I was charged over $600 for the new fan and the bearings cost me about $20.... I know have a near new spare fan.
