maybe it's just cause I've been a fan of Travis for so long but I really enjoyed his verse, it's very rare we get to see him slow it down like that and it was a nice refreshing feeling and I thought it complimented Sza pretty nicely, all love
SZA has matured as an artist. Like she will NOT be known as just the “CTRL chick” even tho CTRL will always be remembered. She came back even stronger! I am impressed by her ability to transform time and time again! S.O.S
Snooze feels like a hug on Halloween. Pumpkin spice, sweats and puffer coats. Absolutely love it. Also love the influx of acoustic guitars, even tho it’s basically her saying “I need you, but only for a minute” the entire album
@@mayacatherine802 the more folk and acoustic driven tracks are def my fav. “Nobody gets me” “ghost in the machine” “snooze” and ofc Forgiveless she was rappin her ass off. I’m really glad it wasn’t as much formulaic RNB cuts. Feels more close and personal

So... Are we gonna ignore the fact that SZA dropped before Shawn Cee? We still need that R&B album man, it'll change R&B fr. Nah but fr, S.O.S is a great album, her vocals on Blind tho... 😩

Not sure why Shawn thinks Trav is just chucked on there for the hell of it. SZA and Trav songs are definitely a work of passion and Open Arms goes hard 🔥
For all you simple minded folk, travis always brings something different to tracks, if you listen to it once it won’t register and you call it trash, listen to it two or three times and after you will understand how good his verse is This man a god
I disagree; SZA's writing is by far her strongest asset; her voice is beautiful but is not what sets her apart in the genre for me,( I actually think her bad diction when singing takes away from her writing at times). Her writing is candid, brave and explores themes of control well, which I still think are present in this album
travis singing on open arms is something i loved. i’ve always liked sza’s songs and this hit for me. i can’t relate to half the lyrics but i love her songs 😂
SOS having "too many songs" shouldn't be a complaint for an album dropping after 5 years. I just feel not all albums are meant to be heard completely in 1 day as well.
@@woomy939 it’s probably this long cause it’s her last album, and she just wanted to drop a bunch of songs for the fans or whatever. I guess it would also explain the whole variety in genres going on
I think Trav went hard for his feature on Open Arms tbh. I do agree there’s too many songs on here but there are some good cuts like Snooze, Gone Girl, and Ghosts in a Machine
I love it, I just wish she went balls out into the rock genre for one song like Willow did. She blows Willow out’ve the water in every aspect except her instrumentation, F2F was giving Disney Channel vibes but not in a bad way I guess?
Respectfully disagree with that Open Arms take. That Travis feature is one of his best all year. The way he switches up his flow in the 2nd half got me.
jokingly says SZA is literally the drake for women, and first track she uses the same sample that drake used for champagne poetry, I can't unsee this comparison
SZA writing is my favorite out of a lot of the newer RnB acts. And props to her for keeping 23 tracks flowing nicely without sounding boring. Low is fiiiire. To me this is her Anti moment.
I would love to hear a SZA x Summer Walker EP. They operate in a similar vocal range but their subject matter is so complimentary it would be an amazing project.
Great video!! Sza did a good job on this album .. I just wish she had more collaborations with female R&B artists. She has alot of success with other female collaborations. Overall I enjoyed the album 😊
Everyone says the world masterpiece and genius so much. SZA makes mediocre R&B. The record is not a masterpiece. It’s new age contemporary R&B B.S. Not even authentic “ R&B/Neo-soul”. Chris Brown, Drake, Brent Faiyaz make mediocre R&B. Kind of sad that this is the direction of contemporary and Alternative R&B. Don’t ever use the term masterpiece loosely it’s a very sentimental word.
@@raingirlcat2245bro expects everyone to make the most perfect songs possible. If you aint changing your mindsett you`ll go dissapointed through your whole life. This album is a great album, coming from a guy that has barely listende to sza. Great vocals and great writing, and if the person writing this comment relates to a lot of the songs, or just love the vocals, then let them think its a masterpiece god damn.
Great album. It took me my 3rd listen to appreciate the greatness of the album. I feel her writing is elite on the album. She did sing about a similar subject on a lot of song, but I feel every song is so relatable in a different ways.
Good Days is still my favourite track on the album. I know it’s quite old at this point but I think it’s a masterpiece of a song. Gone Girl is a close second for me tho. Far, Snooze, Special, Kill Bill are all up there for me too. I was worried when I saw 23 tracks but there is so much quality on this album. Love it
Havent gotten the chance to listen to it whole yet, only Track 1-9 but so far its amazing not gonna lie im glad she dropped and then Soul dropping next, followed by Q right after… Yeah we eating good from TDE
I appreciate that you listen to more music compared to other reactors, who just listen to mostly one genre and then every once in a while they will go outside of that but mostly they don’t
I feel really bad. I’ve been waiting for this album and I kind of feel like the singles that she put out nearly went number one because they were so different. But the rest of this album sounds very sad. Besides a few songs. I’ll keep listening but I’m not entirely sure this is my favorite.
Same. It’s a very mid album to me. I enjoyed some songs but in relation to other albums like amber mark, Beyoncé, and possibly Steve Lacy’s albums, this to me doesn’t compare. Let alone summer walkers last album. I just think this album is ok but more of like a 7/10 for me
@@OO-hs6wb it def is lol movies rated less than a 70 on rotten tomatoes are usually pretty as. A 70/100 is a d/c which seems pretty mid to me but argue with someone else lol imma let you have whatever you wanna reply with
I started listening to this album as soon as it came out, and I gotta admit I wasn’t deep into it. A few days ago a song came on in shuffle and made me want to relisten. It’s so much better than my initial thought, the beats are more vibrant in later listens and her vocals have improved since Ctrl. There’s a few filler songs but even those aren’t bad compared to most artists.
@2:50 SAME ASFFFFF !!! When I was listening, I was like OMG, I’m getting a lil Brandy up in here!! & IM HERE FOR IT! I LOOOVEEE BRANDY & I LOOOVEEE SZA 🫶🏾
I liked the album for the most part, but I wish she would've explored a few more different themes. A lot of the content on this album was kind of addressed on control. After 5 years, it would be cool to see some more growth. Good album tho.
Agreed, but she album is called SOS. She broke up with her fiance. I kinda get it. I would be stuck in this sadness too if it happened to me. However, I hope future projects for her and Ari Lennox are much brighter and hopefully the theme is healthy love. Their voices belong on a wedding soundtrack
@@necinewton7672 I had no idea that she was engaged? That makes more sense. I agree, more brighter tones and themes and less toxicity is something I'd like to see more of on the next go round.
Always thought Sza beats would be great for someone to rap over and I’m glad she dipped in that bag a lil outside of features. Side note: Who keeps asking for Travis on Sza songs? Travis wasn’t even bad on Open Arms but why tf is he there out of all the artists that could’ve been there? Isaiah Rashad, Lance Skiiwalker, fuckin Thugga like literally ANYBODY other than Travis basura.
i agree with most of your takes, i absolutely don't understand why they would put travis in open arms instead of low 😵💫 it would fit him so much better. but ok it's still a great album
My wife delivered again. I wouldn't say it's better than ctrl which is a classic imo but a really good album nonetheless. My top 3 tracks: Nobody gets me, blind, kill bill.
hey shawn idk if you been depressed, conflicted or just dont feel as inspired/motivated but whatever reason it is that you dont upload that much nowadays, i hope your doing alright and i think your a super cool person from what i can see and you make some really great content. id love to have a conversation with you.
@@Kiing_jer I’ve read that on Hiphopheads why ? It sounds more like Paramore/Fall Out Boy/Smash Mouth than it dies Taylor Swift who doesn’t do that much angsty pop rock
I think i like this album but something that I always point out is that SZA’s flows when she sings sometimes throws me off so a couple of songs dont really do anything for me. It could be my ears or something but if Idk what kinda flow youre tryna go for, i prolly wont vibe with it and SZA is a perfect example of that . Anytime i hear her going for a certain melody i be wanting to hear more of that but then she switches it up and i just dont see it coming and when it happens im just not satisfied with it. i dont know man i hope you get where im coming from. Great album tho 8/10
