Great video, cheers man! I recently bought a cheap insulation resistance tester, I went old-school with a wind up Megger. Similar price to yours but mine'll only go to 500v

I have a Uni-T device like this which has 500, 1000 & 2500 V ranges but I never thougt of using it for this purpose. A bit high for some caps but thanks, Bill for the idea! I suppose I could rig a divider circuit. 😁

I know I'm a bit late on commenting, but I am curious. Have checked my model for voltage output. The voltage is reasonably ok, but the polarity is reversed on mine . I have plus on "E" and minus on "L" ... anyone made the same experience?! Could be a deadly encounter for an electrolytic , glad I checked !

I would like to know what is the least withstand mega ohm for 1 minute with 500 volts to test dielectric absorbtion ratio without break the meter itself please.

Awesome video, especially considering your channel is still pretty new. I've seen seasoned reviewers use twice the time to present half the info. Question... Any idea of how to use the middle test lead? The instructions are great for the specs and safety info, but the section on how to actually operate the meter is pretty small, and the translation doesn't seem as careful. I this meter to test caps, and the manual doesn't go near that, so thanks a ton for your content.

Thank you! The instructions are not the easiest to understand, my thinking is the middle lead is for attaching to the chassis when testing insulation integrity, I need to have a closer look....

hello too .. nice video .. i had bought the same bm500a meter but to my surprise it cant power on. i have connected the battery but no power n screen is off . pls is there something am missing or is it faulty. can i repair it as i have noted it after a month of purchase on jumia

hallo. i purchased one of these meters and have been trying it out. while doing this i connected a voltage multimeter across the probes to check the voltage as you have shown with the black lead on the left and red on the right. to my surprise it said it was 250v but"negative". i checked my volt meter on a 1.5v battery and it show correct ie positive. i also checked using an old analog meter and the megger voltage comes up reversed. please am i missing something or is indeed wired reversed in the megger

A nice review; I bought the meter on the strength of it. Richard however is correct, the 'Live' terminal does produce a negative voltage with respect to the 'E' terminal. The meter and sockets are all on one PCB so it is not a case of the terminals being internally mis-wired. The documentation with my meter made no mention of the test voltage polarity. The unexpected polarity is of no consequence when checking insulation, resistors or non polarised capacitors. However for electrolytic capacitors a reverse polarity is not healthy. I suspect the 1960s electrolytic capacitors in the video are (were) not quite as leaky as the test indicated. Then again I don't think I would naturally trust a 60 year old electrolytic capacitor to be in good health.
