Definitely need a back up bow for this in my opinion. I would have to change everything on my set up almost which can be fun. I do want a backup bow set to a lower poundage to just drill perfect form so its time to save some moola I guess! Great content thanks guys.

I’m coming up once my sight comes in to have SVA set up my bow, I’ll have them set it up for TAC and on the way back from TAC, I’ll have them adjust it for hunting. Great video, just need to buy more stuff now lol I just looked up archers advantage and it’s 12 bucks.

I've shot tac before. It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish from the event. Want to just have fun, tweak your bow all you want. If you're looking for practice towards hunting, then shoot your hunting rig. Whatever you choose, tac is an awesome event and worth the trip

main advantage of TAC is it prepares you for hunting, it does not make sense to shoot light arrow and than go back to heavy

For peep height set not half way Into your max range but half way into your physical tape size. So 0 to 120 half way into your sight tape is 70 or 75 yards because as you get further you will have larger gaps between your adjustments become larger. Sight adjustment from 0 to 60 is much less than 60 to 120

Went from stock 340 GT valkyries (same arrow as the Velocity but 4 shield cut vanes) 120+insert to the significantly lighter Victory 3DHV, 120 grain glue in points, and 350 AAE max 2.0 vanes got me out to 115 yards with my 60lbs draw, 30.5 DL, single pin slider.... improvement even at the 70 yards (and on) because it was a much more normal/solid feeling anchor point. Even with new arrows at around 110 I started to feel my anchor getting pretty low, a multi pin scope housing would fix me up but $150-200 for a twice a year piece of hardware seems a bit nuts LOL I noticed at TAC the long distances did not cause people as many issues as the steep angels, shooting from a slop and just uneven footing did.

Thank you for the great video as always! Forgive me if this is a stupid question, or if this is a dumb approach. Would it be a good idea (in the case of shooting a 3-pin slider sight) to first set the bottom pin as low as it could go, and then gang-adjust the entire scope (with a few small micro adjustments to the pin) so that the bottom pin is zeroed to 40 yards? Then micro adjust your 2nd and 1st pins to 30 and 20 yards? Essentially setting your scope to where it needs to be for maximum clearance, and working backwards from there.

I found some nap hellfire pro 3d vanes, you guys ever try em? They have a little groove on the back to add more "spin" to your arrows so far they group pretty good outta my setup, lemme know if you guys wanna try em I'll send you some.

I’m working on setting up my bow for TAC. This is my first year. I plan on using my hunting arrows and bow. My only dilemma is if I should use my nockturnals or not at the event. My worry is they seem to wear out a lot faster then regular nocks and I don’t wanna replace them a bunch before I go from practicing. Any opinion?

I also shoot nocturnal nocks. It really depends on how picky you want to be. Last year I lost5 arrows and broke 1. That would be about $50 in nockturnals. Instead, I flattened some #8 shot from a shotgun shell and super glued them into the back of my nocks to get the same weight (I'm using black eagle nocks. They are slightly longer then Easton x nocks and fit the lead shot real well). Takes a little work, but saved me some decent $$

Couple things I would suggest to save time and potentially money if you don't want to buy a second bow 1. Tune your arrow to the bow and not the bow to the arrow. Say what you want about the Ranch Fairy but doing this gives you a ton of flexibility and saves you a ton of time if you switch arrow setups. Which plays into number 2. 2. Use a dovetail sight. Buy one for each arrow setup you have and sight them in accordingly. If you did number one this lets you switch on the fly and not have to sight back in each time you do. Mostly just confirm zeros and rock on. Also for sighting in I suggest always lowering the slider pin as low as possible then sighting in the whole housing to that at whatever range you want. Then sight in the subsequent lower ranges above that without moving the housing. This will always give you the max available range and open up your field of view within the sight since you should end up with a good gap above the top pin

Anyone that has ever shot a TAC event knows the #1 hacks to improving your Total Archery Challenge experience is to actually be able to register for the event with the POS registration system. I doubt the youtube boys with early registration codes need to suffer the average joe experience. Also, making cheap/light arrows specifically for TAC is dumb. If you cant afford golf balls, dont play golf, or stick to your local par 3 course. If you can't afford to build and shoot your primary setup then you can't afford to build another set dedicated to TAC that you can't use for hunting or w/e your primary setup is tailored toward....
