It's still his job to protect her, which includes her physical body, her emotions, and all the rest. If not, then he should no longer feed her, buy her clothes, offer her guidance or advice. Kids aren't our property, but we do have a duty and an obligation to them. It just seems like when it comes to matters of sexuality, we draw these arbitrary lines. He was making a clumsy joke about having her hymen checked, but the heart of the matter was that he was still guiding her away from sexual activity at that time/place in her life because it is a very serious matter that very few teenagers in this day and age have the maturity for. And you are correct in implying that he should be as serious about protecting the virginity of his sons as his daughters. In my household, it was equal - our parents were against my brothers and myself (I'm female) engaging in premarital sex. Sex was never a shameful conversation, but we understood that it was a beautiful act meant for a certain time and place. That said, I do understand why TI emphasized it more with his daughter than his sons. Typically, women have more to lose in these situations than men. That's my (rather long) two cents.

Have you seen teen mom at all? If you are not already married or living together and if you live at home with your parents it is totally different for the female. She is carrying and her life changes. The guy typically continues on leaving her home while he goes and hangs out with his friends. I think that was where he was coming from. It's unfortunate that this is how it happens, but most young kids/ adults are not having sex too become parents. And the guys body doesn't change hormonally like the female and usually doesn't stick around long to parent. Now yes some guys do handle becoming a young father better. However it's a small percentage that young parents stay together, plus do to being inexperienced and immature/unstable co-parenting is difficult. It can be tough for grown adults to co-parent. Parents have to learn its about the child, not the adult relationship. However I think TI needs to encourage his sons to respect females the way he expects Males to treat his daughters. I am glad that he shows interest and cares. Just needs to not speak on every family personal matter on such a big public platform. He could've just communicated how he talks openly with his daughter and preparing for the harsh world she's entering into..

When I became pregnant there was a meeting of the minds of both families to decide who was going to do what and trust I may have been the one carrying the baby, but his dad was right there every step of the way because he was required to be there.
