I graduated from high school in 1996. Right around the time of Pac and Biggies's death, right in the middle of the east coast west coast beef. At that time our culture valued street cred a lot more than it does in these modern times. I grew up and suburbs and I felt the disconnect from other black kids that grew up in the hood. I saw so many other black kids that grew up in the suburbs ruin their lives chasing that validation and acceptance from the hood and the streets. You have to value the advantages in life your parents worked hard and put themselves in a position to give you. There are other lanes in life where you will find the people that appreciate you for you. You may never ever feel as accepted or may never have as strong of a bond with those black kids that grew up in the hood together, but as you get out and explore the world, you'll find your place. It ain't even that big of a thing for kids coming of age in this generation. He really making dumb choices trying to be what he doesn't have to be.
