Here is a video of last nights class. We went over a few of the basics of grappling in our aikijujutsu. There is no talking to the camera here. This is just parts of class like a normal day. Here my student is completely unfamiliar with grappling. We have covered a simple guard replacement from side control in a previous class, but that was all. last night we went over the hierarchy of grappling positions. Then I let her feel what each position is like to be in both the dominant and non-dominant positions. Then we had a try-by-doing exercise to see how she would hold each dominant position and get out of each non-dominant position. Prior to this she had no technique for controlling any of these positions. After this we went over a few techniques, really returning to the bridge escape multiple times, and one attack the ude garami. I am experimenting with trying to let her figure out what does and does not work in an effort to instill certain tendencies and habits. You will hear me repeat certain things like straight joints are broken joints, keep your elbows in, take two legs from a table. My goal is that these basics will start to play in the background the more she grapples. There is a huge size and strength disparity between us so often times she wouldn't actually believe that she was doing the technique.
