In his new book, ?The Healing of America?, global quest for better, cheaper and fairer health care, longtime Washington Post correspondent and bestselling author T.R. US healthcare companies are lobbying in these other countries for commercialization of healthcare to make profits from those systems undermining systems that currently work.

It was like this in Canada until Tommy Douglas, in the 1930s, first in Saskatchewan, then in Ottawa, developed universal healthcare. When Canadians were invited to nominate the Greatest Canadian Ever, Tommy Douglas won hands down.

We have competent and devoted doctors and nurses in the US which is in contrast to the way we chose to finance health care. It's a cruel class based heath care system in the US. The wealthy receive the best health care the US has to offer the rest get what they can often at the mercy of a health insurance company.

In all the 1st world countries its the taxes that pays for all your health issues. In Australia 1% of my tax goes to the medicare system to prop it up for everyone to have including myself automatic health treatment.

Doctors in Canada are "private" but hospitals (with a few exceptions) are public. Everyone has a health card which entitles the bearer to health services. Those in work pay insurance premiums those are not employed or no longer employed do not have to pay premiums.

The free market healthcare fallacy. For free markets to work price must be disclosed prior to service. I cannot think of a single example of a free market system where price is not disclosed, choices are limited, no one shops, billing is complex, businesses do not compete and rising prices far exceed inflation.

The free market does not work well for an insurance system, where you want the healthy people to subsidise the unhealthy. It better suits a monopoly provider. The same is also true of Third party car insurance, which is mandatory through registration charges if you want to drive a car.

Well, I can tell you that maybe I didn't hear that Sweden has THE BEST health care - but I did hear that you have the best system that runs it, and best prevention plan... What I find ironic is that even my country - Poland - has public health care system - buggy in places as it may be - but still everyone will get help always. And we're supposed to be a 'poor' country?

""we have great medicine, we just havent made it available to everybody..." and that, is the crux. In the United States you’re a customer not a patient. Europe has a healthcare system (although not perfect). The US has a healthcare business. corporatist liberal system, that is only interested in money. I dont advocate socilaism in anyway. its not "socialism", its about both the government and the people sharing and bearing responsibilty for their health. The US is a crazy dollar incentivised system.

Actually Britain is a Constitutional Monarchy and governed as a Parliamentary Democracy, France on the other hand is a Republic and governed as a Presidential Democracy, like the US... You have a third form, it's called Direct Democracy, like Switzerland and classical Athens... To make it easier for you, Republic - Head of state = President and Constitutional Monarchy - head of state = King or Queen, although all power rests with parliament. The US is a Republic AND!!! a Presidential Democracy.

Before the U.S. government started interfering with healthcare, medical coverage was affordable. All of the insurance mandates (average of 42 per state, state licensing, the FDA's 10-18 year approval process, subsidies, taxes, out of control litigation, Obamacare, red tape, monopoly protections, cronyism, etc) are all driving the underlying healthcare costs up. Procedures and prescription drugs in the U.S. cost 2-10 times more than free market systems.

im lucky because i'm british but looking at the prices for medicne in U.S. it cost more than any other private treatment anyway how can tradesman for example brickies chippies etc on £30,000 a year on average how are they supposed to afford these ridiculous prices heard figures like $300-500 per month for somewhat decent cover just crazy it's simple their putting business over people lives best it probably is the best country in the world if your rich but if you work for a living one of the worst places.

By the way, countries with a universal health care system spend no more than 11.5% of GDP on medicine. Taiwan 7.5. All are covered And here with the USA 19%, at the same time 45.000.000 without insurance. In reality, the US would save a minimum of 1.5 trillion a year. America would not borrow $1.000.000.000.000 annually.

The doctor makes housecalls in UK for ear ache? Rubbish. I have lived in UK all my life and routine housecalls never took place, only for the seriously ill who cannot be moved and who do not need hospitalisation. Certainly not for earache. On a separate note, it took over six years to diagnose my wife's cancer on the NHS and then they said it was too far gone to operate. We ended up at Royal Marsden in London (one of the five best in the world) and they operated and saved her life. The NHS is badly organised and abused by so many people who do not value it at its real value because they do not have to pay a penny to access it. Anything that is free becomes over used. A small fee for a doctor's appointment would work well, a fine for not cancelling appointments and not attending. Not prescribing medications that can be bought without a prescription would save money too. There are many ways to improve the system in the NHS. IF it was run properly it would be great, but I doubt a bureaucratic system can ever be run properly.

I'm talking about modern parliamentary democracies, they didn't exist until after the formation of the United States. The UK is not a republic, it has a Queen and a Prime Minister, not a President. Just Google it. merriam-webster(.)com/dictionary/republic

I watched this last night and then did some research..it appears this guy DID NOT go around the world, or if he did he missed a lot. It seems France is really rated at No9.....UK at No 1. USA at No 11 and Australia at No 4..cant find where Canada is..doesnt seem to really be on the list....more information required than this guy gives....NOT the richest country at all. I would love some feed back.

A little naive, how can USA be no 11, they don`t even give Health Care to all of its own people. Girl with broken legs, exclaims frankly, don't take me to hospital, I don't have money. In no other country would such a scene be possible. It happened in the US
@davidjones272
@davidjones272 5 лет назад
@@sveingeraldhansen7275 he was looking at a comparison conducted by the commonwealth institute (I think, probably got the name wrong). It compared 11 health systems and rated them by factors beyond health outcomes (it included factors such as cost and accessibility). The UK NHS was the best under those criteria, (predictably the US system Wass 11th of 11) because it is cheaper than the French and more easily accessible (completely free at the point of access). The guy being interviewed is citing who statistics, which looked at medical outcomes only, in that respect the NHS is only about 20th and the French, Swedish and Japanese systems are better (although if UK citizens increased its funding levels to the European average then it would likely increase these outcomes significantly, the French pay half as much again per person towards healthcare than we do).

I'm sorry but it seems you have no understanding of political terminology. Yes a republic is a specific form of government but Great Britain (thats the correct spelling) still is a Constitutional Monarchy... do they have a queen or a president as head of state? It's also a Parliamentary Democracy, power lies with parliament which is chosen through elections. Not every Government ruled by law is necessarily a republic. You seem to have a very narrow American viewpoint
