The T54E1 tank, the so-called “Hamster”, recently received a change in its role on the battlefield. Previously, it belonged to the class of medium tanks. Now he has been transferred to heavy and he is closer to the role of his descendant - T57 Heavy. Let’s try to figure out how much this affected him in random. At the same time, we compare it with tanks similar in gameplay.
As you can see, no armor was added to this tank, and what exactly was its transfer to the class of heavy tanks is not entirely clear. The forehead of the hull can still knock something off; it is very reminiscent of the one found on the T57 Heavy, and the T110E5, and the M103, but the sides are terrible. Unlike Hevik, he cannot tank from them. Despite the presence of bevels covered by tracks, they do not give the right to count on rebound or non-penetration, since their nominal thickness is insufficient. In addition, its roller is much more vulnerable - it can be penetrated even from a T-44 gun with an armor-piercing weapon.
The hamster's cheeks mark the armor of his entire turret. If on the “Hevik” they penetrate only into the area right next to the turret shoulder strap, then on the “Khomyak” the cheeks are sewn to the left and right of the gun too. If the enemy comes on board, and the T54E1’s turret is jammed, which constantly happens during the game, then he can easily halve our hero or even take him away.
However, we must pay tribute to its sides; if an inexperienced enemy on a medium or light tank shoots with auto-aim, there is a chance of non-penetration.
When faced with heavy tanks and tank destroyers, he will have to swallow shells. However, his HP was increased a little - now he has 1850 strength points, which will allow him to live 1-2 shots longer. This is important for the drummer, as it will allow him not just to shoot back, but to distribute a full-fledged drum again during the battle.
The main advantage of the T54E1 is its drum. It involves playing at close range and helping your allies - heavy tanks. The Hamster is able to fire four projectiles at an enemy in less than ten seconds, allowing him to avoid receiving damage in return. Its dynamics have become like those of a heavy weapon, however, penetration has also increased - on the same T57 Heavy in battles with dozens it is quite enough, and the Khomyak gets into the category of sevens, which it will sew in any projection, but it still indulges too much and shoots at masks on auto-aim not worth it. An additional advantage is 1560 units of damage from the drum and 390 units of damage per shot.
The tank has a well-armored gun mantlet, and by exposing only the very top part of it above the hill, you can work on the hatches. The Khomyak itself has a small hatch, and it’s difficult to fix the roof of the tower. So both the Khomyak and the Hevik can tank under certain conditions. Those who once played on the T110E5 should be familiar with the tanking technique on this tank, when the hull is not set up as a reverse diamond, but, hiding the front roller, they drive out, resting the front roller against the corner.
Thanks to the turret, which is strongly shifted forward, this makes it possible to achieve impenetrability and not expose your cheeks, or expose only a small part of them. However, who am I kidding - even in this case, the Hamster will be sewn into the tower. You shouldn’t rely on its armor; like Hevik’s, it is more random, and only a few adherents of this tank can confidently deflect shells with it; this requires a lot of practice in the game.
