Found a second hand Bremi, always wanted one, let's see if it works.
We open the box and see them glow :)

Nice video Tony and I share you excitement and nostalgia seeing a Bremi after so many years. When CB radio was around here in the UK I was only a teenager with little money. As money in the 1980s was generally tight my local CB radio shop would rent out a Bremi for the weekend for little money and I would stay awake for the entire Saturday night using the CB radio to capture long distance DX contacts with the 100 watts. I remember thinking that the 18 feet (5.5 meters) antenna I was using might turn black due to the 100 watts which seemed a crazy amount of power when most CB radio's here in the UK were only capable of around 4 watts maximum.

Yes great stories Ian, thanks for sharing. yes 100 Watts was crazy in that time. here also 0.5 or 4 Watts. (good times of fun)

Great to see this device again. My mind goes back to the early '80s. Many Italian CB stations worked in RTTY (highly illegal, but a lot of fun)

We had a BRL200 back in the 80s fantastic performance Tony, it ran most day for 2 plus years without fault always kept clean and dusted regularly. Would love one now regards Tony M7CVK

Hello. This amp is from the late 70's made in Italy like for example the ZETAGI. It was a luxury to have one of these!!! Watts weren't as easy as they are today, especially with Russian tubes!! These valves were not made for emission but for deflection in TVs. They give a lot of power but are not very robust. There are several brands that used this type of valves (6JS6C, 6KDC, 6JB6) etc) such as YAESU with the FT-200, 101 etc and DRAKE with the famous twins, among others. Another time other techniques!! 73 Rodrigo

The harmonics disappear with the amp on, is because the output tuning of the amplifier is a tuned low pass filter.

Thanks Tony, it's a nice and nostalgic linear amp. I have one here also. Is that a 50db attenuator in between? What power can it handle?

blooming cb dirty linears! Getting new valves for those are incredibly expensive these days. Most of the harmonics come from overdriven audio modulation. There is very little noise from a dead carrier.
@germanjohn5626
@germanjohn5626 Год назад
don't confuse harmonics with inter modulation.
@GeorgeChristofi
@GeorgeChristofi Год назад
@@germanjohn5626 indeed, but a dead carrier isn't a true test. I would have liked to see a two tone test on it on various transmission modes just to see how the thing coped with intermod.
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus Год назад
Cool stuff. Yes a saw new tubes ate 50+ each when lucky else a lot more. 1 tube cost more i paid for this thing in total :)
@germanjohn5626
@germanjohn5626 Год назад
@@GeorgeChristofi a dead carrier is the ONLY test used for harmonics. What you want is an inter modulation test. Two totally different things. I do not believe it will be bad, did you look at the 2 meters? I did not see compression when he was driving them. Also, a 2tone test as to feeding tones into the microphone will tell you a lot more about the radio and hardly anything about the amp. If you want to test the amp for inter-modulation 2 narrow spaced RF carriers need to be used. "dirty amps" especially in CB are mostly the result of the radio / amp being over driven or miss aligned radios and amplifiers since every CB operator automatically seems to belief they are RF engineers and know all about how to "tune" a radio.. A linear amplifier will faithfully reproduce whatever it is fed, feed it a clean signal and it will output a clean signal, feed it crap and it will output crap. I my 60 years in this business, I have found that there are 2 main sources of "harmonics and splatter" a CB operator believes are the amps fault. The stronger presence of all the crap feed into it the amp, including grossly overdriving the amp and the most prevalent, simple front end overload combined with the usage of the noise blanker..

Maybe I missed the internal Q measurements? This looks.. "not bad" ;) @15:45 - strange, seems that could be the best at "triple Triangle" abtennaes?
