It's always fun to watch people move the goal posts. If we treat tablets as "only things to watch movies on" then OLED is the winner. Then we switch that to "tablets are for replacing laptops" when we need an iPad to win. It's always fun...
True, Ive shown my sister how to use ms office in her ipad and now she brings it to school instead of her laptop now. She doesnt do much gaming aside from genshin and procreate is amazing for her art comissions though she's still more used to the workflow of windows and mangastudio.
I don't think the iPad is a good laptop replacement at all because it lacks a proper file manager. No side loading. Only the most basic screen mirroring or maybe or the pretty compromised stage manager mode.
IPad os sucks for doing actual work, if you want a tablet for me imo a windows tablet is still The only way to go, iPad has so much performance but the os can't keep up, same goes for android, you can't do any proper work when you need more than 2 programs. Besides software support is still a big issue for android and also iPad os
@@championxxlNL LTT even did it years ago, making and editing an ipad video using an ipad. The main problem is still that apple keeps hindering the ipad's capabilities despite it being better speced than the m1 macbook air. Its still ok for actuall work and definitely more than good enough for students.
I think as geeks, especially as an older one myself, I had to do a reset from buying the most specs I could afford to "What do I really need out of my tech?" I've changed my phone, laptop, and tablet buying habits to mid range products. More than enough compute power for me and I focus on display, sound, and build quality of a device. Either of these are a winner in my book.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 that's what I do. my laptop is an old thinkpad T430 bought used. My phone is a used lg v30. My tablet is a refurbished lenovo duet 3i....saved a ton buying used. All are fine except a used enterprise hp 1013 x2 2-in-1 core i5...the battery is shit
Thank you Juan for actually showing the capabilities of the OnePlus Pad. The general coverage of this device has been sad, to say the least. With apps like Goodnotes and Lumafusion making it to the Play Store, there’s increasing hope that Android tablets can actually kick off as they ought to
This is such a good comparison. It really highlights the strengths of devices and shows you the the uses cases in which they would be most applicable. Honestly, based on how I've seen the people around me use tablets come. I think The one plus pad would more than satisfy their needs. Gaming, watching content, and taking notes are easy things for this tablet to do.
If people were willing to trip over themselves for the m1 being amazing in a ipad pro, we need to be equally willing to trip over ourselves to have an equally convenient and similar experience on Android as a platform
I don't know if m1 is all that amazing on the iPad. Obviously amazing on the MacBook. But the advantages on the iPad on things like battery life don't show up. I don't think it was a big leap in performance over like the a15 chipset.
Even putting M1 in the iPad Pro, it still can't be a real laptop because of iPadOS. If Apple put macOS in it, then it'd be a worthy competitor to Microsoft's Surface Pro.
Tablet and laptops are like the intermediates stuck between desktop and smartphone, in the dimensions of raw performance and mobility. Getting which is very dependent on what you already have, but my tendency is to have at least one device with desktop OS and one with mobile OS, for maximum software compatibility. After all a device is of no use if you don't have the software you need.
Funny you should mention the airplane aspect of this comparison because this is the exact question I'm asking myself right now. I'm hoping that the integration for OnePlus mobile devices with the OnePlus Pad will make the OnePlus pad that much more compelling because the base memory size of the OnePlus Pad hurts me. If I can connect a OnePlus 11 or future device to stream a stored offline video to the OnePlus Pad, that would make this tablet even more awesome. I'd also love never to have to wait for more than an hour for a mostly/fully charged tablet.
What I find interesting is that with that power for a phone like Samsung or Motorola used with a Lap-dock is less expensive, more power & versatility and cross-plate form usage.
I'm perpetually disappointed in Samsung, but the tabs have always been my top recommendations for tablets since Dex came around. I prefer moto ready for now, but dex is a monster feature that's a true practical disruption to consumer tech.
I don't think there's any winner between the two. You buy the Lenovo because of larger screen, microSD card support, and USB3. The OnePlus is cheaper, has latest Android version out of the box, and has a more compact screen. Both tablets has keyboard support, so it depends on your budget or chipset preference.
After buying a surface go with my wee little grocery store check I have found I really like the tablet form factor. Touchscreen is alot funnier for me and also you got portrait mode can put it in. Bought a surface pro 7 recently for the price I paid for a surface go in 2018 which is suppose to come today. Yah
Honestly, I'd stick with a traditional laptop. Laptops still have plenty of I/O that I still need (SD card reader, USB ports, 3.5 mm audio jack, Ethernet port, VGA and HDMI display for multi monitor setups. That being said, it's nice to see that tablets have come a long way from just being media consumption devices.
I honestly don't think Android is comparable to Windows. Android still has a long way to truly replace Windows since always tend to have limited features compared to Windows counterpart. That's why I still keep using my Intel NUC despite long embracing Android Desktop Mode. As a Chromebook competitor though, that's where the OnePlus shines. With the sheer performance of the Dimensity 9000 chipset, it makes you wonder why would you want to buy a Chromebook laptop in the first place. Also, ChromeOS and Android aren't much different.
For me though, the only reason I want a Chromebook laptop is native desktop Linux support. Unless if you are a 24/7 Linux OS user, Android tablet still makes a lot of sense.
Hello nice video! At the moment at a pivoting point. MS W12 might become a subscription OS and this makes me consider migrating Samsung DeX or even Apple. The Surface Laptop go2 is a great laptop with for me two gripes: no backlit keyboard and no micro-sd card slot (local backup). Backlit keys I could do without but with only 128Gb storage some more (as back up) is kinda mandatory. Using memory sticks and external drives are beyond the point making a 12" 1.1 kilogram laptop imho.
Juan, excellent review. I purchased both the OnePlus Pad and upgraded my OnePlus 8 to the OnePlus 10 Pro. Both the Pad and 10 have been updated to Oxygen 13.1. Could you confirm how I can setup cellular transfer from my OnePlus 10 to the Pad when I am remote. Can't seem to find this in the settings. Thank you in advance. Reply
OnePlus user here (I oneplus 1, 3t, 6, 8t) and now pixel 7. I still reach for my 8t (with data sim card) over my new pixel due to quick charge and larger screen and louder speakers and quick fingerprint, more split screen options..... But writing is on the wall here in Europe with OnePlus pulling out (or pushed out) Had anticipated a OnePlus tablet for a looong time but this might be too late, arriving as they are leaving. I'm a bit sad :(
The OnePlus looks like a fantastic device. Love the aspect ratio. Just wish that Android were better slated for student use, particularly notetaking. Onenote in particular on Android is years behind Onenote on iPad which is, again, a decade behind Onenote on Surface.
It’s an odd feeling when I prefer using mobile ARM devices on the road because they SEEM as fast as my home desktop, whereas when I take my (admittedly) long in the tooth x86 Ultrabook I'm aware at how pokey the thing is.
Great video, as always. It's great to see another high-end android tablet option available even if it's suspiciously familiar to a fruit bearing peer lol.
@@FAT8893i would love an arm windows tablet from Samsung too. Samsung can definitely compete but they probably don't see any value entering that market. heck if apple put macos on ipad i would buy one right now.
Can all android apps do pop up mode? I use slide over on my iPad a lot. I need to slide over specific apps not just twitter. Considering this instead of iPad Pro.
@@SomeGadgetGuy no just curious if it's standard apps like OnePlus system apps and Twitter etc.. or have you seen it possible with random apps in your app tray?
Surface Laptop Go though has 720p screen.... Though if that's not an issue and someone looking for small laptop I would recommend. Also plug it into dock and monitors.
