I literally just painted my first rubber battle mat and wondered how I could make some quick ruins... The timing is amazing. Edit: Yup, definitely going to make these!

So simple! Slapping on any extras can also adjust it to any theme! Little "metal" bits turns it modern like rebar sticking out, or even adding fake plants up the sides makes it look like forgotten ruins in a jungle or woods. Such an easy idea with so many uses

as someone who's toddler is quickly pulling apart all his papercraft buildings, the idea of rugged/fast/cheap terrain speaks to me on a spiritual level great video, jeremy!

I would put those away from the child. Their actions are not justifiable just because they're a toddler. Show him, who's the boss

pro tip buy your toddler a ton of wooden blocks. In 2 years you're going to have a bunch of wooden blocks to add to your terrain.

I found out if you do this with the paper left on, you can pull it off after and you are left with a rubberized piece of paper you can wrap around cylindrical shapes. Wizard tower bricks!

3 layers of foamcore is a neat idea. Normally I’d reach for a single sheet of insulating foam, but I found some old foamcore in the garage covered in dust and spider poop that can’t be used for much else, so this is a timely video.

Taking a few extra minutes to push some cut up paper clips as “rebar” and maybe cutting a doorway or two into some of the walls would really push this over the top without much extra effort.

Could you do a full ruin castle in the foamcore and caulking? Maybe using a wire brush for a drawbridge! This video has my gears turning 😆
@willmfrank
@willmfrank Год назад
Yes! You certainly can. If, however, it becomes too big to support itself, you may have to brace it with a wooden frame; Use a variety pack of square wooden dowels (available from the craft aisle at Dollarama or whatever your local equivalent is) rather than balsa -- the dowels are stronger and more durable, and the variety pack has several different sizes that will serve different purposes.

I was scrolling through my RU-vid subscriptions yesterday night and I was wondering if you were okay. Of course less than 12 hours later you upload this. Hope you enjoyed your family vacation. Well deserved. I may have to bang out some ruins fast and easy and this is a perfect solution (since I have everything for it lol). I would love to see more scatter terrain projects. "No special tools required". Involves a textured rolling pin lol. I mean, I get it, that IS a lot faster and easier and less fiddly to make than carving bricks by hand, but if we're talking about accessibility in terms of materials, carving the bricks or stones requires only your base material, a knife and maybe a pencil. Things a lot more people have easily on hand than specialized textured rollers.=

LOVE this build. It's so simple. I don't build much terrain because of the time investment and seemingly not having the right tools to get a good time investment/results ratio, but this is SO doable with what I have. Thanks dude. For anybody thinking about the sponsor: Into the AM shirts are dope. I'm 6'6", 220 lbs, athletic build, I wear their large size. They're super comfortable and have great artwork. They shrunk somewhat lengthwise to be on the shorter side for me, but not too short. They also make your arms and shoulders look hella good if you lift at all. Highly recommend, worth every penny.

On the spray paint note; if you do end up with some melted areas because of overspraying, that's fine. It just lends more to the ruined look.

Been doing my ruin walls with XPS foam, and then just painted/drybrushed with cheap acrylics. Extremely cheap and effective, but carving out the stone-texture of it (tried knife, dremel and so on) has been time consuming. Now using a green stuff roller and that pasty non-silicone stuff seems like a much smarter solution. Just need to figure out what those silicone-like products are called in swedish hardware stores now. I know that's a veritable jungle of weird product names. Just as with resin and epoxy-products, watching these english language tutorials is always so inspiring, whether it be for miniatures, dioramas, cosplay or whatnot. But the products decribed rarely exists under the same labels or names over here. And sometimes very hard to get too, like materials like regular crafting foam variants or worbla used to be almost impossible to get. It's gotten better, but it can still be pricey. Anyway, rant over. Thanks for all the great and inspiring content.

Hey folks, doing my first ever craft and could use some help. So I’m doing Bards Craft cheap cardboard dungeon tiles. Making as many as I can for a gift to give by DM buddy for his Bday. The tiles are cut and glued and ready to be painted, but I really wanna prevent warping. The tiles are 3x3 corrugated cardboard layered across for strength. I’m wondering if that is enough? I did a test with pva glue, mod podge, and basic craft paint and they all warped a single piece of cardboard a little. So I just wanna be Uber careful cause again these are a gift. Any tips would be appreciated!

Being cheap, i'd sugest 3 and 5 inch (2.5 x2 ) strips and cut the 5 inch wavey to get 2 pieces at a time. Buy that's just me. Otherwise cool easy project (the non water soluble caulking just needs vinegar in the water instead of soap - it's on the back. This is for more the true silicone ones for tubs etc.)

Finally got to try this and the caulk was an absolute nightmare. Sticks to everything, really difficult to work with, wetting it too much helps with the sticking a little but causes the details to melt away. I tried letting it dry first before rolling, did some experiments both inside and in a cold garage letting test pieces dry in 15 minute intervals, and found it works best after letting dry 45min inside (at least in my climate). But in the end I still got a ton of sticking and ruined a lot of material. This was a total mess and not worth the work. Switched to air dry clay with a cooling rack to prevent cracks and got *way* better results *way* faster. Thanks for the interesting idea though!

I wonder... Do you think it's possible to base models on... flexible bases? Like, we'll need to stabilise the mini with a sticked drawing pin in a foot, and only on human sized ones, but after that, its base could adapt to every terrain? 🤔

Might have to make a few of these.... While watching, was thinking that you could use a piece of 1 1/2" to 2" wide foam in between two of these sheets to have a walkway. If you had a watch tower or something too, you could make a 90 degree corner piece to sit around the watch tower. Great video!
