TAC-14. Bought my first Remington 870 and it's a beauty.

The Tac-14 Hardwood is a sleeper piece. Comes with a sling, an extended mag cap from the factory, finally matching the shockwave in ammo capacity, and the hardwood is gorgeous. The hand stop is far more elegant than the Mossberg, or normal Magpul tac-14s. Probably my favorite piece. Once you tap into the potential of these SBS firearms, it’s amazing how fast on target they can be. No butt snagging on clothes when mounting, like a traditional stocked shotty, super compact, and the Remmy’s weight makes it a joy to shoot, even with high brass. Try the push-pull technique and absolutely bring the firearm up to properly see the bead. POINT the bead by pushing out on the forend. Enjoy!

I had previously been using a turkish-made shorty as my trail gun (I live in bear country, and mamas and cubs are literally everywhere). I really never felt secure because I don't 100% trust the quality of the turk guns (I have several and they all have various little issues). That said, Remington's QC sure hasn't been all that great either over the past few years. I assumed this would have manufacture/assembly issues right out of the box (which is why I took it down first), but was plesantly surprised at the workmanship, and now that I've shot it a fair bit (I've been testing various 12ga handloads through it), I am REALLY liking it, and it's become my main trail gun. The handstop is still nothing but some stamped steel, but definitely more beefy than the nylon straps on the mossys. Overall, I've been very pleased with this little shotty, no complaints at all that I can think of.

@@High_Caliber there’s a reason Federal Marshals Witness Protection went with this firearm for a while. When you need lots of firepower FAST, at point blank range, in a small package, it fits the bill. Nothing beats a high powered rifle mounted at the ready for a bear, but this will do.

A 870 or 1100 made in the 60s thru 80s....Now that's the true definition of a beauty ! ! ! I'm old but I got to buy them at the absolute peak of Remington quality and pride of workmanship

I've not been a fan of any of the manufacturers from the 90s on, everything got more commercialized, less hand fitting, but the fit n finish on the Tac-14 is really good. My best shotty is a 1970s remington 1100 stainless. Action is like butter, it's like driving a late 70s cadillac...just so smooth. Back when they polished their stainless....

Exactly... the Rem Arms quality really sucks and is sub-par in every respect.

It's been more work than I really ever thought it could be. Add into that, the altitude has really been tough to cope with. Less oxygen and less moisture really knocks a guy out pretty quick. That said, no complaint, just something I'm working on. The property is unreal. I've never been happier. I marked out 15 acres for a shooting range, and it's in a spot where nobody but an eagle can see me using. A fella can make one hell of a shooting spot with 15 acres. The trick is finding a company to cut a road to that spot, and to do that I need to fix the laneway, and in order to do that I need to thaw out the pile of gravel that's still under a foot of snow and frozen solid...the list goes on and on. Thing is, youtube is still the biggest hurdle. Why make content/profit for a company that hates you? I've been following the senate hearings into the twitter execs. I think they're actually going to prosecute them, and if so, social media will suddenly open right up again. So I haven't been thinking about videos a whole lot, to be honest. Sorry for the ramble :)

I know how it feels to have a forest fire get close, our property in Wisconsin was nearly caught in one a number of years ago, we were spared from that but lost it all to a tornado just a couple years later.
@High_Caliber
@High_Caliber Год назад
Oh that's terrible!! Our property has actually been hit twice by fires, the first one was 100y from the hosue, but the last one was 14,000 hectares...quite the thing to live through. We DO get insane winds here, but log houses are pretty solid, and there's thick threaded rods that run from the roof to the basement, that sort of hold it together. I think a tornado would do us in, as you obviously know, the destructive power of mother nature simply can't be contained. Hopefully nobody was hurt and you got everything replaced/rebuilt? I think you get that once you face the worst that life can give you...and survive it, it rewards you with that self confidence like nothing else can. Damn that's rough to hear though. I've got more of these coming. I'll try and promise to not use tornadoes as a comic device, but you know, flying cows have a definite humor value. Cheers!!

I absolutely love mine. I had to take the sling off though because the recoil kept knocking the plate and pin loose on the front until I get around to fixing a better pin. I see yours seems to be a little rougher on the slide than mine, however.

It was pretty fresh out of the box in the vid. I have the benefit of having a home range, so I've put a few hundred rounds through it, which polished up all the friction surfaces. I haven't had any issue with the sling mount (yet). So far, I'm quite happy with it overall. I had kept away from them because I sliced my thumb up on one when I was around 10 years old out with my grandfather. My thumb is bigger now :)

@High_Caliber I feel that, I got mine brand new and came home to check it out, then immediately destroyed a handful of pumpkins we had growing as volunteers from last year. I've managed to get it hunting accurate with slugs, 30yds which I feel is more than I need for a defense gun. 9 of 10 hit within a hand at the 30yd mark. We are lucky enough we also (kinda) have a range. Our backyard is 100 yards long with a giant hill as a backstop.

Yeah, odd and lucky that I can get this one here, but it's absolutely perfect for a trail gun, which is exactly what it's used for when I trek the dogs through the woods 3x a day. Bears have just awoken here, and cougars are just having cubs...the cougars are the biggest threat as the mother teaches the cubs how to take down prey, so it's not all for feeding, some of it is sport for them, and even with 3 big dogs, nothing deters a mountian lion as a couple of warning blasts from a shotgun.

@High_Caliber
@High_Caliber Год назад
Remington quality control has been pretty sketchy for the past 10 years, maybe 20. What I didn't know, that was with these tac-14s, they actually have much better machining and finish than a run of the mill 870. I'm sort of a shotgun fanatic, I've had literally hundreds over the years, and almost every single one has benefited from fine polishing of the bolt and moving surfaces. A stock mossy 500 (for example) is terrible right out of box. It also gives me the opportunity to see if the thing was assembled correctly, and/or had issues in shipping, before I just load it up and risk face and digits. It's sort of my thing, probably not necessary for everyone, but I like a real smooth action.

@@High_Caliber -- Thanks. I have about 50 rounds through my Tac-14 and have noticed that sometimes it has trouble extracting the fired shell casing. Does polishing the bolt help this?

Damn, I remember we chatted but not the location. Oddly enough, we had a blizzard here for about 2 hours after I filmed this. It didn't hang around, but still kind of funny. I do cross post to several other sites, but I think we both know that none of them get the views or interaction of YT. As well, generally speaking they are mostly political battlegrounds, and that gets old quick. I don't want/need the $ from a channel, I just don't want it shadowbanned and then wiped out by some blue haired activist with a big case of TDS. :(

Remember kids, union line workers at Remington have a pretty bad QA reputation, but load them up with explosives out of the box and hope for the best. Hey, it's only your face and fingers you're risking. Also, always eat things you find on the ground.
