Great info! My experience is 9 out of 10 times the tach amp is bad. Putting pressure on it and messing with it only works for a couple days/weeks. I agree the gummy stuff is horrible and is barely good decades later. I actually found a new VDO amp once on Ebay for $130. Avoid used ones if possible. Also grounding issues can cause tach problems if I'm not mistaken

have you ever opened up the tach amps and replaced the capacitors?

at the crankshaft end, look for wear and tear on the pick up.

I have a 1993 190E 2.6 liter. Reverse works, but no forward gears. I think it may possibly be the B2 piston. Anyone familiar with this and where can I find one? Thanks👍🤔

yes! B2 piston or brake band it is..here's the diagnosis upcouple the bownden cable from the throttle linkage put the car in drive see what happens. if it moves forward the issue is the piston. if it doesn't, the issue is the brake band itself

I have a 1985 and don’t have the amplifier on it is this y my tack is not working?

your tach will usually quit working of the over voltage protection relay fails.

This one is a bit of a head scratcher. I have a brand new one i got today with 72 ohms reading. and my tach is doing this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nBfHjedhKRs.html

@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 I suspect my pickup cable is bad as it's reading a little higher resistance than you say in the video. If i remember it reads about 80 Ohms
