Did this technique to my 23 year old Faria tach. I always had to tap it to get to sit where it was supposed to. This year it was really jumping way up. We I moved the selector switch to positions and putting it back to 8 cylinder postion. Tach worked as it should after that. Ran the boat several miles with a couple key off then starts. I had read about this technique before but never tried it. I read that the connections that have the indicator get corroded and moving the selector a few times cleans it up. Thats for the comment. Really helps the channel. I just know that this works most of the time. I know mechanics that charge $80 to move a switch. They always said its from hitting a wave hard. BUT corrosion makes seance too. Thanks again
Thanks for trying! I'm having this issue right now. Boat a boat, RPMS were fine and holding where they should be. Took the boat out in the rough a few times and hit some hard waves, now the tach is ready up to 6500 which definitely is incorrect. Going to try this next time I go to the marina. Thanks!
Phenomenal….worked for me. I have an 8cyl. The Faria Tach only has 1-6 on it. It was set at 3 when I checked it. I turned it to 1 and back to 3 and turned the key to “on”. It went strait to 0. At startup, it went strait up to about 900rpm and was consistently accurate on the test drive. GREAT Video!
@@outdoorswithcam I just ordered a new Faria trim gauge because the outer case cracked on the one I have. It’s on a 2005 Monterey. The Tach was the only other gauge that had gone haywire. Definitely saved me some $$$. The trim gauge works but the outer case cracked when I took the dash off last time….superglue didn’t work! Faria gauges are great but nearly 20 years of use are starting to wear on them.
@@outdoorswithcam I just got the Faria Kronos for $45. All of my gauges are all silver like yours. The Kronos is silver outer ring with gold “tick” marks inside instead of silver. I may try to take outer cover off of the new one and replace the existing broken cover with it so the silver is consistent. I also saw they sell Faria blanks for under $10. That may be an option I explore as well to harvest the case off of and insert the working instrument.
Glad it worked for you!. Just think how much money you saved. Mechanics charge $100+ dollars to do that. Usually happens when you hit a hard wave flat and jars the boat. Happy boating. I am winterizing this weekend

An EXCELLENT video sir! I have a tach on my boat that Lights up when I turn the ign but it will not show the RPM`s when I`m running. BTW it`s a new tach! can you offer me a suggestion plz cam? thanks
You have a wire thats not connected. Its either not connected to tach or not connected to coil or wire broken somewhere... The light in the tach has nothing to do with it. That circuits goes to the light bulb and thats it. I would ohm the wire out and check the connections.
