Good ideas but instead of using premade hard shells you could just cook the tortillas til they are soft then fold em and continue to cook em til they are crispy on both sides (with or without oil).

Why does that bother you? Don't you have any sense of adventure? I'm sure recipes have been experimented with countless of times down through the ages and when cultures combine, new recipes are made. Haven't you ever heard that variety is the spice of life?
