I was there... I spent 8 straight days hovering in a 230 Sqn Puma above a splash target in the Moray firth. I was using a very early black and white video recorder. Fair to say the results were patchy!

Great videos, love seeing all the greats especially the Bucs & Jags. If I remember correctly only the best pilots were chosen for the Jaguar as those guys really needed to know not only how to fly but again I’ve heard the multi tasking they had to do at just 80ft above the ground was unreal plus to excell at all the multiple roles the jag played. Thanks 🙏 for uploading

Saw some A7s over the Scottish Borders when I was about 10, so 1985 ish. Saw plenty jets but they were very rare to see!

I was there on One line, of 226 OCU, the A7's were outside our hangar, they were ex Vietnam aircraft, and were a bit weather beaten to say the least, lots of stop drilled cracks in the flaps etc. One of the Buc's was in our hangar one night, first time i got a look close up, built like a brick outhouse!

I recall the A7 crews being wowed by the RAF Jaguar NAVWASS. They were using some pretty elementary (even then) weapon aiming systems in their aircraft. In the end, they won the competition and wiped the floor with the Jags, Buccaneers and F1-111’s. It was a great competition. There was almost a disaster on the last day of the run-up to the competition. A Shackleton from 8 Sqn almost tangled with an F1-111 in the circuit. It was unpublicised at the time, with blame - unfairly - going to ATC.

I don’t hold the F111 personally responsible but they were definitely leverage in the cancellation of TSR2,the Buccaneers looked great in this livery...👍
@peterstubbs5934
@peterstubbs5934 6 дней назад
Well, lots of suspicion as the TSR 2 was a direct competitor to their F111 PLUS, the Americans had form at paying for success in cash filled brown envelopes. look how they managed to fiddle the F104 Starfighter to be taken up by NATO.

Please could someone identify the two at 4:52. I'm struggling to work out what has a twin boom and a scaffold board for a wing (apart from an Edgley Optica :-) )
@imatts
@imatts 3 года назад
Too early for an Optica - I think perhaps a Bronco OV-10 although I don’t recall the being there or them being part of the USAF in the UK - I think Spangdahlem may have had them in the 1970s

Rockwell flew this plane two years before the merger of the two companies in 1967. Was always confused as to why I would see this plane listed with two different manufactures.

I know I can just turn down the volume, but please music is so subjective and can really kill a good video. Even just random jet noise would be more appropriate.
