Video shows Russian Special Forces simulating a tactical ballistic shield minivan drive-by shooting and breach for training and demonstration purposes.
Interesting to see this kind of tactic. Apparently Russian operators love the use of ballictic shields in CQB situations since they offer a great level of protection and are like in this special case of usage pretty helpfull.

I learn something from Russia when Moscow theater hostage crisis happened in 2002. 850 hostages & 40 insurgents but it ends with 180 instant death. Because they gassed them. number of estimated casualties varies widely because many hostages remained unaccounted for and were not included in the official list. surviving hostages were poisoned by the gas, and some of them received injuries leading to disabilities & Complications years later resulted to even more death caused by the physical trauma lead to 400 casualties. These numbers include to special forces which also get poisoned by gas.

In america, unarmored vans are used for SWAT transport. Firing on the move is a bit unsteady, especially in a somewhat standing up position. While russian OMON uses the Tigr in the role of an armored vehicle, it is still quite interesting to see tactics developed for unarmored transport vans.

Update from some forum that I couldn't be bothered linking (I think it's a Reddit thread about a well know clip of Korean rappelling where such a pole blows a window as two operators descend through it). The pole has some explosive on one end and one/two "clappers" on the handle. These are electromagnetic switches that trigger explosives. The original forum comment suggested there were two switches for redundancy in case one failed. I can also imagine they're there for safety as you don't want to blow something up by bumping a single switch.

This demonstration doesnt even have any hostages at all. And yet the comment section always has those cringe worthy "haha russian special forces kill all hostages" type of jokes. Its just bizarre considering 1. The original video on the russian defence ministry's youtube channel described this training scenario as an assault on "insurgents" or "terrorists". Absolutely no mention of "hostages". 2. The moscow theatre hostage victims who died were mostly killed by an oversaturation of sleeping gas not gunfire. It was obviously an accident and most of the hostages were saved. 3. Beslan school terrorist attack victims were mostly killed by suicide vest bombers and terrorists who opened fire sporadically as the police raided the site. 4. Hostage rescue situations in real life where you have hundreds of innocent people caught in between the crossfire almost always lead to tragedy. Moscow theatre hostage crisis had 850 hostages with around 40 terrorists. That is a gigantic problem to deal with even if the world's best tier one operators were called upon to help with the situation. Its just impossible to save everyone. 5. The FSB and SOBR have gotten extremely good at saving civilians from hostage rescue situations ever since.

Fair point. 850 hostages with 40 terrorists is one hell of a headache to deal with.

The Moscow theatre hostage situation was just a logistical nightmare. Probably the biggest hostage crisis situation of the 21st century. The fact that most of them lived by the end of it all was a miracle. Sleeping gas was a good idea. They just used a bit too much. But yeah the FSB has gotten better at hostage situations ever since.
