i think it's very niche/situational but is a good switch hitter unit like the warrior imo. theorycrafting my setup once i get access: equipment: 1h melee, crossbow skills: melee prof, crossbow prof, whichever slayer skill is needed, whichever bane skill is needed. tactics: use crossbow until you can get in melee range. use melee+slayer skill once in range. most likely will sit on the bench unless there's lots of beasts or dragons in the fight.
Dragoons do get a few things that are unique that don't involve beasts and dragons. Specifically they get spears, rampart aura, _and_ pincer attack. I believe that combination is unique for generic human classes. Rune fencers get spears, but not the rest. Other melee classes get rampart and pincer, but not spears. So you can do some fun things with 2 range pincer attacks that other generics can't and that's not too bad of a shtick. Plus 2nd spear finisher applies breach which is nice utility. Also feel like spears are just iconic on dragoons from various games.
true that combo of skills is unique im glad u pointed that out i guess you could do some neat stuff with that i really do like spears which is why i like dragoons in general im a spear guy lol
spears and pincer attack are an anti-synergy though; you have to stand kitty corner to not have your own guy hit by the spear, and then you're not going to get extra pincers off by abusing the enemy's counter.
Yea dragoons are super situational! You only really need them when there are dragons and beast. They look super cool but they’re easily replaced by terror knights and berserkers.
i dunno. You’re right that dragoons are mainly for beasts and dragons but you SHOULD be recruiting beasts and dragons and auctioning them off and dragoons accompany beast tamers pretty good. As niche as they are i’d still say that they see regular usage.
yeah i just find with them being so specific they lack utility and use outside of 2 or 3 beasts or dragoons on a map if its just 1 u can skip a dragoon in my experience especially more late game post game content
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 yea but try treating the game like a pseudo-pokemon catching experience. Catching ALL the beasts that pop up in phorampa then selling them in bulk for the buffs. Feels pretty good man.
Jeunan is a good unique Dragoon. Not just slightly better stats than a generic, you'd need him to recruit Ravness and Ocionne As for top 3 worst classes: *Ranger, Angel Knight, Wizard* *Ranger* had plenty of kit in the PSP version, mainly setting traps and barricades but that got removed in Reborn....and you are literally scammed by the job description. You'd think Ranger has Humansbane or something, but nah. Garbo class *Angel Knight* is strong as a melee flyer class and great at exorcism, but you get it way too late in the game. Post-game only. And as said, focused mainly on exorcism. Angel Knight has interesting auto skills but very niche *Wizard/Enchantress* are great starter magic class but they get way too outclassed by other casters like Warlock, Shaman, Wicce. Even Patriach literally disses on the Wizard class 🤣
I agree i thought ranger would be awesome than im like wtf is the point and wizard is outclassed by other magic useer scaling just better and idk about angel knight never used em yet sadly but if what ur saying is how it goes that sucks
When in the hell of hanging gardens, equip plot sword (lombardia/brynhildr help a ton) and run over everyone, regardless of type. Swordmaster gets power crept really badly (pre-empt still allows the attack unlike fft, so it is in effect a counter sandwich befire and after enemy attack) and can only equip 2 handed katanas. How did you say it's situational when they're great to end the game (edit you didn’t finish, that helps as a disclaimer before lol) though Dorgalua is a pain with area of effect stun, let alone you have to manually equip for the battle without saving as you save at the battle party screen and can't backtrack to world/stronghold map to save changes/craft (which yeah definitely flip baldur blowguns for this bs)/restock. Crossbow tapers off compared to plot swords and is useless vs barbas, martym and dorgalua (you'll do damage even if he can be stunned and not poisoned).
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 sure thing lol just edited my comments. It's one of the worst parts of the game is that it requires ff2 level foresight (no way i find that acceptable in modern day for cryptic bs, let alone I am tired of magic leaf AI when they dont charge to death), which I'll go in depth below. Ultima needs you to level all 16 carried spells (holy, flare and ultima should be on different characters, especially holy you can sneak early game I have a playlist on) and all weapons to actually do damage. At least soul of rebirth lets minwu get a buff though the ultima dragon is win mode with 15k hp, 4 poison damage, and having Ricard as a dead mule (you could technically give him OG ultima before he dies as magic and equipment transfer, which Josef would need the armor piercing ripper/rippler knife to be of any use to double scratch 400 per turn lol).
@@MrVariant sounds like a pretty painful battle or place to have to go through if u need to have that much foresight to beat it lol i know hanging gardens is rough tho but damn
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 but are you a bad enough dude to not use chariot tarot for a few agility charms 🤣? I won't spoil the first form but let's just say if you use a dragoon with your dragons and he doesn't use risk assessment to pass the damage buck like a boss lol, it'll be easier. Feel free to ask me to spoil anything late game though I have no idea where the doorways to shorten hanging gardens boring generic battles outside permanently dying from a this is Sparta knockback cheese. I do feel Tartaros had great foreshadowing with Catiua, and is probably inspiration for FFT Delita.
I re-classed a male knight into a dragoon for a specific map…during the battle, I found out it FLYS. I thought I was missing out this whole time (currently chapter 3), cause my female dragoon does not fly. I started googling this and found this video. Is mine a glitch???
I feel like I already know who your three classes will be for your next video hahahaha. Cleric - since you don't use them very much and healing is about the same as front line units (valkrie knight etc) Dragoon - only useful really if there is more than one beast/dragon. Otherwise they are a worse version of knight Knight - simply outclassed by white knight. I also stopped using mine once I had access to the white knights.
Speaking of cleric, I recruited a warrior with high hp and level it as a knight, which has the highest HP gain among generic class then turn him to cleric, he is super tanky only downside is his low mp but works better than regular cleric
So my 3 classes that are good but others do it better are. 1 Clerics. Get a Faerie and you can use her as a Familiar with more weapon choices and the instill auto magic. Only thing you really loose is AoE Heal and exorcism. But you hardly position for AoE Heals anyway and exorcism is done easy by Item or Catiua as Princess/Priest. 2nd Vyce Ranger Nice on paper with ninja double wield and Beastmaster lobber until you realize he can't boost his power for attacks in any way making ninja, archer and fusilier better in any way. Fusilier gets lobber too, so bonus for that. 3rd knight Once you get the Terror and White Knight Combo, why would you ever go back to a regular knight. The only thing the Knight has that is arguably good would be Phalanx. That's my pick, I'm interested to see yours tomorrow
@@jvdach4652 my 3rd choice is dragoon only cuz they are extremely situational but wizard would be a good 5th choice cuz yeah other spell casters just out scale them
@@destroyermaker thats a great idea thank you right now im currently in chapter 4 about a few story battles in my level cap is 32 so i got a ways to go but would enjoy making those videos
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 I believe they are good, and very useable. I just love this game because of there being so much customizing and building things my way. and the Sword master has one build. I like classes like the ninja, that can do many things and can pre battle, I can switch one or two things out to best face the problem. thank you for all your content and hard work!
@@michaelemard6350 yeah i agree all classes are useful no doubt i love all the build options and classes to makes the game so fun . thank you for taking the time to support the channel just by watching and commenting :)
Dragoons would be more viable if poison didn't destroy all high HP monsters. I run jeunan as dragoon for flavour but he hasn't left the bench in quite some time.
I mean poison does 30% of their hp over the course of 2 full rounds. Dragoons do over 100% of their HP in one attack. I don't think Dragoons are made obsolete by poison at all.
Beast tamer did 200+ with 4 bombs to any enemy including final bosses let alone you heal with items from afar both hp and mp with fruit of the adept and whatever it crafts. Am glad vid lol said was lame which yeah I'll take away my dislike as he acknowledged end game was not covered as dragoon is far better with a plot sword.
@@Dire8 oh that explains it. It is kinda like fft if you don't know how to raise your orator's chances for stalling to skip an opponent's turn or have them permanently join, (including monsters you breed different types passing days; tame sucks to weaken to critical by orator to get), by entice with arcane strength (and have quick to win more like how paradigm shift works for an instant turn). Chapter 3 you get craft which yeah flip blowguns and max out fruit of the adept for a 10% hp and mp boost (and unlike fft which reserves to chemists, monsters can equip 4 items and are tanks even if damage may lessen; I don’t think I ever had an enemy dragoon seek and destroy my dragon, hydra nor gryphon). The patch didn't remove that profit margin because I guess they felt you need it. I do find it funny how chapter 4 boomerangs back to the same end albeit different party members. I think the white knight who joins differs as well. I had Mirdyn on neutral, and not sure if you can save Gildas as there is an item later on that undoes zombie afflictions.
@@MrVariant now final fantasy tactics I know, and love the orator. Looking forward to seeing everything these next chapters have to offer. Will keep an eye on fruit of the adept. And anything else that can be deemed useful.
Dragoons make enemy beasts and dragons a total joke though. You literally one shot any beast or dragon if you're even close in level with decent equipment. That's about it? That's more than enough though! Something like 1/3rd of maps are going to have a beast and dragon; you have a unit that one taps every beast and dragon on those maps and then fights very nearly as well as your other melee classes, it makes all those maps a joke. I scout an enemy party with beasts or dragons and I'm like 'sweet, free win, this just went from a 12 v 12 to a 12 v 10 after my dragoon one shots half your front line.' Is there any other class that gives you basically free wins on 30% of the maps by themselves?
Yeah dragoons kinda suck. I know their niche is beast and dragon killing. But they have very little else to offer. So unless it's an almost full beast/dragon team its probably not worth it. Which is a shane
my votes for 3 worst would be Warrior - good but outclassed. ninja is great but enemies just killed mine every archer and mage would target them from everywhere. wizard- again great but so many of the uniques out class them. or maybe princess - honestly not impressed by this unique.
3 good calls i would say watch out some people live and die by the ninja saying its one of the best but i agree my ninjas get focused down pretty fast lol
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 i gave up using mine once i got to the end game then got vyse who i just used as a super ninja lol ( dont think thats the "right" way but meh) its also probably bc i tried a DW melee ninja... ive seen good results from blowguns and "canopus" style 1h bow 1h weapon.)
yeah level 30 spear finishers is pretty nasty. I just use other classes that can use spears and i still get the finisher and lots of other usefull skills and moves
