I like both, I find linears sound better if done right but tactiles a lot easier to do right and I got it because it increased my wpm by 10 on average, and I like both clacky like my tactiles and deep like my linears

Consider me old fashioned, but I generally think of the feel of keys much more than the sound. “Just going for sound” seems to miss the point of something that you fundamentally interact with using your hands, not your ears.

@deadpan ehh some people like me find tactiles a bit fatiguing after a while with strong tactiles and light tactiles are jus irritating linears imo. As all things in this hobby are, its up to personal preference. I havent found a tactile I enjoy yet and I enjoy most linears, even the scratchy ones.
@wkang2758

@@kaeroseon might I interest you tecsee purple pandas? a personal favourite of mine. It has a rounded D-shaped bump with very minimal post-actuation travel as opposed to the sharper P-shaped ones on holy pandas and Boba U4Ts. @@-kerplink-7738hen I needed to use my brother's linear switch keyboard for a while it was a nightmare because I didn't know how much force I need for them to actually activate and when would the keys activate. I may be an odd one out here, but clickys are my absolute favorites, with tactiles as a distant second. There's just something so satisfying to me about being able to really hear each key press, even with headphones on at high volume.
@Thesnakerox
@Thesnakerox 2 года назад
Also, the bump that clickys offer when pressed is unparalleled in my opinion. I'm guessing that most clickys have a stronger bump than most tactiles because they're free to make more sound--quieter tactiles have to have the bump suppressed to also contain the sound.

For me, I love tactiles because I’m a tactile person. My brain grew up before a lot of the digitally-amplified (I think that’s how you refer to it) buttons and keys that don’t require much force to register an input, and I end up slowly damaging them because I get really aggressive when gaming and overcoming an actuator bump doesn’t feel off to me

All things aside, stock Akko Radiant Reds are amazing out of the box for their price with high availability (Even cheaper than Gateron Yellows!). After lubing they get really smooth and clacky/thocky with no hint of scratchiness at all. I think the sound of a keyboard depends on so many other factors other than the switches alone, but they can definitely shape the sound drastically.

I've been typing in tactile switches for about 9 years now, even excluding the sound. The bump just feels nice for some reason. I think it's the feedback of the actuation that makes me really like them. Linear switches feel like I'm not pressing down on anything and it feels very strange to me.
@lehuytran3628

Which is better for typing? I hear people saying tactile is better since you don't have to push bottom compared to linear which makes it less tiring than linear. On the other hand, some people say that linear is better because it is smooth and doesn't have the bump so it is less tiring than tactile. Which one is more practical for typing?

@silly_goofs
@silly_goofs 10 месяцев назад
few downs with tactiles tho. its much harder to lube tactile correctly especially when you just can slap lube on anywhere in a linear switch and call it a day but you practically ruin the switch if you lube a little too much or in the wrong spot. there are also far less good tactile options out there compared to linear switches. it's all preference of course but it is nice to receive that tactile confirmation when typing and you dont need to second guess if you fully pressed a key. tactiles defiantly have a distinct sound created from the bump that sort of adds an extra umph and may end up making it louder

If you REALLY absolutely need linear, I'd honestly recommend an optical switch keyboard. Linear opticals make zero contact and have no scratchiness in the key feel at all. MX reds or any similar unmodified switch feel like garbage in comparison to my lubed gateron optical black switches and also keyboards that use the gateron style optical switches are all hot swap and make for a great first modded keyboard. The one main downside is that switch selection is very limited but the ones that are there are good, particularly the linear contactless switches.

I prefer linears, as some unlubed linears are very smooth stock, such as glorious lynxes, but I tried pandas in my cousins keyboard, and they mainly sound better on the space bar, and you won’t notice that it isn’t smooth when you’re gaming and pressing the space bar with ur thumb, so I prefer something like lubed linears of any sort with a tactile space bar switch, and I want to try boba u4ts, which from what I hear are the best tactiles, and even have a good feeling tactile bump Also, people hate on tactiles mainly because of cherry mx browns, but most are better than browns, and I have tried cherry browns and gateron browns, and from what I hear, also outemu and kailh browns are the same as cherry and gateron, so just brown switches in general are bad. People hate on cherry browns so much, and I tried them recently, and I was thinking “augh, here comes hell” but they felt the same as gateron browns, unlubed, which were my old switches in my gmmk 1 tkl before I changed to Akko jelly blacks, and also in my cousins old gmmk compact, cherry gets too much hate, it’s not specifically cherry browns tho, all browns suck.
