BTS have always open about how to hey feel about each other, they have lived together for more than 10 years, been through hard times and happy times, with that I don't think they'd need fan service, they are genuinely happy when they are together

@@swahilibangtanSorry to disagree. There is one level on which you are certainly right, I do think too they have genuine affection for each other. But look around your own circle of friends, relationships are never easy, full of competition, jealousy, conflicts etc., despite the liking. Why should it be different with them, they are human after all. And don't forget, we are talking about Kpop were FS is part of the marketing strategy. But more importantly, to put it very harshly : BTS HAS BEEN AND IS THIS BIG MONEY MAKING MACHINE FOR THE COMPANY. I don't believe for one minute they are not carefully watched and controlled, told what to do, how to behave, hold up their image and if they fail, simply edit it out (if they can). Ships are an important part of the advertising strategy, biases and ships engage fans on a deeper level, i.e. fans look out for "moments" of "their" ships. And all fans get what they fantasy about: Taekook, Jikook, Jinkook, Namjin, Taejin, Yoonmin etc. Tae and Jin are a "ship", so I would be very careful to take what we see of them as "real". As an additional factor they are both actors and can easily go into "character", playing a role. Conclusion: Don't trust what we see, look for the things which don't fit, small contradictions, if you really want to know about BTS's relationship dynamics. We don't know what their contracts looks like, I assume part of it controls their "public behavior". I get the impression they have a bit more freedom now, then they used to have, but again, when we see them they are working (the camera is on), following ideas and demands of the production teams. Even if they are not (some vlives?), they still need to be in their "persona". It is all done very cleverly, so fans get the impression they see the "real" thing, i.e. forgetting about the 10 or more ppl in the room, when BTS is filming, not to talk about concerts or fan meetings. BUT I STILL LIKE THEM, LOL.

Ships are a means to engage fans or give the fans what they like to see (act out a FANTASY: Taekook, Taejin, Namjin, Yoonmin etc). It's what PR (public relations) deals with. They try to give "authentic moments" to all different subgroups of fans and they are good at it, quite convincing at times. They set it up with the help of the members ofc, but it is MANUFACTURED. You may already know FS is not supposed to be taken seriously, but unfortunately a lot of fans seem to not take that into account, fall for it because that is what they would like to be real. I was very confused too when I started to watch BTS. There might be another reason why FS plays such a big role in BTS: to cover the real relationships in the group. The company can't promote real gay couples, fake couples are no problem. The biggest boyband in the world has to be seen as "healthily" heterosexual given the world we live in.

@@siggispock5102 i understand what u mean, thank you for your detailed analysis, yes, just like i thought, the members that are involved in the fan service are asked to act like 'gay couples ' so as to please certain groups of 'fans' but SK is a homophobic country, i am surprised that the government allows the Korean entertainment industry to let their artists act like gay couples, in China, the government banned all feminine male actors, television hosts, mcs from appearing on air, let alone allow them to act like gay.

@@josephine3806China....sigh. But don't forget the traditional islamic or christian societies (i.e. the pope wanted a blessing for gay couples, the African bishops were strictly against it). There are very few countries in the world where gays can live relatively "comfortable". Korea: don't forget they model themselves a lot after the US, so it is not legally forbidden to be gay, but there is no marriage or chance to adopt children. I don't think the government (they had a rather liberal government before this one) would interfere with the entertainment industry. And the entertainment industry does what makes money. Girls/women are fascinated by man/man relationships so they get it in the form of FS (and nearly all the fans are girls/women). But those in the entertainment industry who in the past have dared to "come out" for real have payed a heavy price. There is a lot more to say and not being Korean it is very difficult to know where the grey areas are. I liked you asking about the different ships and the contradictions. I love BTS but have come to understand what we see of them is to a large extend constructed/manufactured, the company (PR team) deciding what fans will like and giving it to them. The members have roles/characters (personas), have cue sheets which tell them what to do (flirt with....) and photographers who demand: get closer to..., make it look more intimate. You have probably noticed the amount of ppl who are in the room when they are filming. How can this be "natural" or "organic" then? Still, I like their music and performances, their philosophy and think they are great people. I only wished the company wouldn't find it necessary to "play" the fandom for whatever reasons (and money plays a big role in that).
