So happy you decided to react to "Want". Yes, Taemin gets very involved in the entire process of his music. He acted as co-producer and co-director for his 2020 NGDA album and regularly changes lyrics, choreo, musical arrangement/score, and even the set and costuming. He also has two of his own backup dancer crews: Korean & Japanese. They are all either professional dancers or choreographers like himself -- Kasper is a well-known member of his Korean team and has worked on many of SHINee's and Taemin's choreos. However, there is never a really set choreo, as Taemin changes the choreos on the fly according to how he feels when performing. Dance Practices? Well of course. Didn't you know that SHINee actually started the actual dance practice trend? While they did their first DP with their debut song, "Replay", in 2008, it was their DP for "Lucifer" (with Taemin's psychedelic, zebra-stripped shirt) that ignited the trend and then everyone started doing them.) Taemin has MANY! Make sure to check out the one for "IDEA", as well as the live Studio Choom "Advice" in 4K (no DP for that one because of his tight schedule & military enlistment.) "Want" is so much more than people realize. If someone likes Taemin and appreciates his music, they will probably like "Want" for it's seductiveness that Taemin is known for. However, for the Taemin fan who appreciates the fact that Taemin links his faith to many of his MVs/songs, it takes on an even deeper, more profound meaning. So, sit back, grab a beer or coffee, and let's dive into this masterpiece: (BTW: Taemin confirmed my analysis on one of his VLIVES when he was asked what the concept of "Want" was. He replied that it was taken from an Old Testament story of the Bible.) Taemin's faith is on full display here, but ingeniously hidden to those who don't subscribe to, or appreciate his worldview. During the introduction phase, we see alluring snippets of Taemin in various poses with snakes and smoke, however, you also see what looks like pools of blood (Christ was the ultimate sacrificial lamb whose blood covers the sins of the world). Taemin opens the MV by dancing in slow, hypnotic, snake-like movements. Snakes/Serpents, which represent the idea of the tempter in the Bible, (in the ancient Hebrew - which derives from Akkadian & Ugarit - the word "snake/serpent" ["nchsh"]), used in this particular way grammatically in Gen. 3, is a triple entendre meaning "divine shining being". The snake was ancient iconography denoting spiritual/godly figures. Eve wasn't talking with a snake, but an angel or some other divine shining being. Gardens and mountains were typical metaphors for where gods dwelt because gardens were rare and mountains were mostly inaccessible to ancient peoples of that time period. When trying to interpret the Bible, it's VERY IMPORTANT to leave your 21st Century glasses on the table and look at the wording and imagery from the ancient Israelites' perspective and the language, culture, and history of that time period - from the second millennial BC up through the 1st Century AD. Things don't mean what you think they do now. This is the BIGGEST reason why people denigrate and scoff at the Bible. In actuality, they make fun of it because they don't understand it. They are looking through their own understanding of how things are and what they mean NOW during the present time period --- BIG MISTAKE #1. BIG MISTAKE #2 is to assume all Christians think the Bible is a book of science. Not true. God chose a specific people, at a specific time and place to reveal himself. He had to use their understanding to make himself clear -- not your understanding or the understanding of 21st Century thinking. The lessons still apply today, but we are missing a huge chunk of the deeper meanings when ignorant of the puns, symbolism, metaphors and such. The magnifying glass forces us to focus on him, and only him, up close and personal. Look nowhere else, see how beautiful and alluring I am. The glowing, bright white shirt Taemin wears fits in perfectly with the symbolism for "shining" and "the light". The chief adversary of Christ, was Lucifer (MEANING: "Light Bearer", or "The Shining One"). As I explained earlier - divine shining being. Thus I wouldn't be surprised that this part of his wardrobe was very intentional. Taemin is all about the little details. Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel....until he fell. (The word "satan" is a misnomer which actually means "messenger" in the ancient Hebrew/Aramaic, as in the incident with Job. It was actually a job description which became a proper noun later during the intertestamental period and then appeared in the NT.). In addition there are creepy demonic-looking beings around him at certain points when you slow it down. Although he's beautiful, he's hiding his demonic side in order to draw you in....a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just before the bridge, there is a brief shot of a neon red/orange cross behind him, and he mimics the posture of Christ on the cross (which is a signature pose for him as you see in many of his dance postures). In another scene, during the bridge, Taemin is elevated above the snakes and calls them to him because he's their father - the father of lies. The tempter in the garden was a master at twisting the truth, which lured Eve to sin, and she then led Adam to do the same. Behind him is a photo of him with his eyes covered: see no evil here, just gaze at my beauty and listen to what I say. People are blinded by beauty and inconvenient truth. It's more important to satisfy your own desires that to act on truth. You also get a visual of a solar eclipse. Again a reference to Christ's death on the cross, as there was (according to both the Bible and present day astronomers) a solar eclipse when Christ died on the cross. Even the lyrics reflect this theme: "The minute you take me in you'll be wanting more," in other words an addiction is formed. "....The sweetness of the forbidden apple...," tastes good, but once you get a little taste of sin, that which is forbidden, you'll want more and more because it "...awakens your senses," (in the Bible, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they became aware of the "knowledge of good and evil") and you will continually "...thirst for more." He'll "....wake you up from the silence of your deep sea." In ancient biblical times, the "sea" was a metaphor for chaos, because it couldn't be controlled. People were afraid of it because it was mysterious; you couldn't see beneath the surface; many died in it's chaotic waters. This is why the Bible (in Revelation) says there will be no more seas = no more chaos. When Adam and Eve were awakened to knowledge of good and evil, chaos ensued upon the Earth. He'll "help you see a new world," but is this really a good new world when innocence is stripped from you? "I'm your toy, I'll make you innocent." Most toys appear innocent and signify the innocence you had as a young child, but the apple (forbidden fruit; actually scholars aren't sure what fruit it was) looked innocent too and "appeared" good to eat. Many poisonous things appear beautiful and delectable but those very qualities lure the unsuspecting victim to their death. Sin numbs you to immorality (truths become lies an vice-versa) and turns it into something "sweet" to the point it's justified and then those who can still see the corruption, try to warn people, or don't themselves partake of that sin, are shunned. It was the serpent who distorted the truth and tempted with the one "forbidden apple" rather than the other acceptable fruit (like the fruit of the Tree of Life). Sin invades so slowly, so subtly and satisfies your cravings to the point that you don't even realize it's happening until you're already addicted to it and scales form over your eyes (which were considered one of the ways to discern knowledge), and you have no clue because you're "...relying on your own self-control...moved by your body's and soul's" dark desires. The tempter says, "Open your eyes (to me. says Lucifer). What do you want? I'LL MAKE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU NEVER KNEW." Exactly. Adam and Eve never knew sin, until the tempter tricked them and revealed all and after that, humanity has always wanted more. Temptation gives birth to greed, lust, jealousy....all the 7 deadly sins. Before you know it, you have been gently and seductively led right to Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture at the end of the MV. You are left with a choice: 1) Embrace the sin and willingly go through those gates (Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden because they chose sin and God appointed Cherubim with swords of flame to guard the gates of Eden so no one could ever enter again. However, you can choose to enter the gates of Hell), or wash yourself clean in pure (holy) water (Christ promised to gift us with living water -- which was himself; his blood.), and there's only one way to do that - by believing in and accepting Christ as your savior. I'm sure there's probably much more that I've missed. You can see how Taemin's lyrics can be interpreted simply as they appear, or once you study the meticulous details that Taemin is famous for infusing into his work, you may find a message that's a little uncomfortable for some and more than you bargained for...lol. As I mentioned before Taemin is famous for his duality and in his song "Heaven" we see him acting in the complete opposite, as the character of Christ asking for someone to choose him of their own free will and thus gain salvation and "Heaven". Taemin helped to write the lyrics of "Heaven" and he previewed a snippet of it at his 2019 T1001101 Concert. We SHAWOLs waited two years for the completed version to come out, and we were NOT disappointed. It's a favorite for many of us. (For you, there's a spot with lots of him belting it out.) I recommend checking out the videos The Artist Taemin, and the three The Growth of Lee Taemin videos by WalaWala. And Taemin has so many MVs(and his songs that aren't mvs are def with checking out too cause his discography is perfection), and his work with SHINee who are considered the princes of Kpop and are known trendsetters in the industry(the other four shinee members also have solo music out as well)

Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers, and it is why his dance moves look like he is slithering like a snake, etc. Taemin is a devout Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references. Fun fact: The female dancer that you see highlighted in the MV is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of SM Entertainment's new girl group aespa, who is under the same company as Taemin. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (Aespa debuted a little more than a year ago, in November 2020.) She was also a backup dancer for live performances of the song. The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing.That is why all his songs are titles such as "Danger," "Soldier" "Sexuality," "Tiger," "Press Your Number," "Guess Who," "Mystery Lover," "Hypnosis," "Crazy 4 U," "Flame of Love," " Under My Skin," "Thirsty," "Want," "Criminal," etc. or "Ace," "Already", "Door, "Pretty Boy," "Move" "Artistic Groove," "Famous," "Idea," etc. Each song is meant to show you exactly why he is one of the best in the industry even just by their titles. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on both Taemin and Kai by their peers and the industry as a whole. There is literally no one considered better than them. However, there really is no one that pushes Taemin or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in the MV, you really need to see his dance practice video and/or a live performance for "Want." However, you will see that it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years, as you see, he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. His talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With more than 13 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. They have trained their entire career to build stamina and endurance in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee is the group that really set the standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups work to reach. As a member of SHINee, Taemin is expected to constantly be coming out with something you have never seen or heard before. SHINee's whole concept is that they are SM's experimental boy group, which means that they are ALWAYS changing up their sound and style and reinventing the industry with every new release of theirs, even within the same album. The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next style of song and dance will be. And, not only does it have to be new to them, but it is expected to be something new in the industry overall. So, after more than 13 years, Taemin has pretty much done every style of song and dance out there, and yet, he still manages to one up himself and create something new that continues to be unbelievable every time. On top of being a member of SHINee for more than 13 years, Taemin's solo career began in 2014, so he has 3 full length Korean albums and 3 mini albums, as well as 3 Japanese albums. Plus, he has had several solo concert tours. So there are an endless number of MVs and performances you could watch. Some of Taemin's solo MVs I would recommend are "Danger," "Drip Drop", "Press Your Number" "Flame of Love," "Sayonara Hitori (Goodbye)", "Thirsty," etc. Some of his live concert performances of his solo songs I recommend would be "Sexuality", "Door," "Tiger," "Ace" "Soldier", etc., etc., plus hundreds of SHINee MVs and live performances as well. You can't go wrong with any of SHINee's songs or Taemin's solos.

Love your reaction! His newer works are darker as he has much more creative control compared to before. His older songs are more rnb and pop with elements of the darkness you see now. I’d recommend Criminal and also his b-sides like Black Rose live or Heaven live. He has stages for these as well. His Criminal album has more songs in line with your taste and also has a song called Mystery Lover from his older albums.

The Nine Inch Nails & Manson references there brought back some memories! Maybe that's why Taemin is my favourite artist. He has that darker, more eerie vibe to a large amount of his songs/videos. He does indeed have dance practice videos(SHINee, Taemin's group, were the first to make dance practice videos in the format that is standard among all groups today, and these dance practice vids have been an integral part of many Korean groups' content for over a decade now). He does have dance practices like bts does if you want to check them out. He is basically a snake luring the innocent party in like the snake in the garden of eden that tempted Adam and Eve( which is why he’s doing slow snake like movement at the beginning of the MV). Also not sure if you noticed it but the door that he is standing in front of towards the end of the MV are the “gates of hell”.

It's like TAY-min, even in the English language AE is not pronounced as an EE sound lol. He is our lord and savior, Lee Taemin. Taemin is representing Temptation here (using some imagery from his Catholic background). He also likes the use of words with double meanings. (English speakers hear "hot hot" which may be something else in Korean.) Taemin said the little snake was cute and kept going into his shirt. (Snakes are cut but flying insects creep him out.) Taemin is close with his dancers and they definitely work as an extension of him. Also, SHINee popularized dance practices back in the day and SHINee and Taemin have them. In the dance practices, you can more clearly see his isolations, footwork, shoulder movements, arm waves, and turns, etc. Taemin is and has always been a member of SHINee, Forever Five. It's amusing that you ask if he does dance practices like BTS seeing as the band he's originally from Shinee is the one that made releasing your dance practices popular! (I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I just find it ironic) If you're curious, the dance practice Shinee released for Lucifer in 2010 is what started the craze.
The one you’d really should see of his dance practices, is “Famous”. One of Taemin’s many Japanese songs. And here’s why, because I think my explanation will persuade you to see it in the very near future. Lol So, he is a phenomenal dancer of course, any dancing of his will of course be “chef’s kiss” for one’s own eyesight, but for me I watch them but I usually prefer the MV cause I like the show. Full costume, effects, glitz and glamor, etc. and he gives full out performance so that’s not a problem but I’ve never really liked them for that reason. But this particular song for this particular dance practice video just blew me away the choreography and synchronization of him and his dancers, are not surprising we’ve seen how great they are but I’m telling you I was so in awe of the whole thing I barely got bothered it was a practice, matter of fact I’ve seen all three MV; dance performance MV; live concert video, and out of all four the dance practice of this song is the best to watch. Just a hopeful request, no harm if not I’m sure you have many requests or busy but if you you’re looking for that type of vid of taemins to see, hopefully you’ll remember my enthusiastic request. Marilyn Manson reference is new to me, but yes, it make sense. There is often some "dark and rock" vibes is Taemin's solo MV, not exactly creepy, but nearly "gothic" and sensual. Something about temptation. That's what I like with him.

When he first started with SHINee sm only wanted him to dance and told him he was a terrible singer so he started learning to sing on his own. Jonghyun, also in shinee, helped him a lot. His determination to get better at what people tell him he can’t do and level of perfectionism is insane.
@@Random-qi3vv Yes, he joined SM as a trainee when he was around 12 years old and debuted 2 months before his 15th birthday (as a main dancer of SHINee). That was mainly the reason why he couldn’t train his voice since the beginning- cause he hit puberty and his voice was changing and it could potentially injure his vocal chords. But once he started taking proper vocal lessons he developed his voice really fast and the quick progress was really astonishing.
Hello! Please be careful with the words. "SM told him he was terrible singer"??? What??? They had emphasised on his dancing skill as he was prominent in this field at first place. On the other hand he hit the puberty and as every young singer he had some hard times but he started to take musical lessons. Just like every idol and especially in SM who are powerhouse of vocalists. You don't think one day an artist just woke up with great vocal technique and developed vocal skills? All of these are because their hard work. He is talented and the company definitely knew this and together with him they worked to develop his talent even more. I really beg you to not spread those type of rumours and personal... opinions? Or I should say just your thoughts?
@@yordankavo I’m not saying he didn’t ever receive lessons! He definitely has had singing lessons since then. In my original comment I talked him being hardworking so I’m not sure what you meant by me thinking an artist woke up one day with great vocal technique and developed vocal skills? He absolutely worked hard to get those! But he has said himself that he was told he was tone deaf, can’t sing, and should stick to dancing (I think possibly on Hardworking Idols?? I couldn’t find footage of his episode). He wouldn’t have gotten into the company without talent but it is his dancing skills that got him there then had to grow his vocals, which are so amazing after his hard work and yes, vocal lessens after the fact. You can absolutely get vocal lessons while going through puberty and it’s smart so you don’t damage your voice in that time. The company should have taken care of him in that time, but I’m not saying they’ve never helped him grow. I did misspeak though, it wasn’t Jonghyun that first gave him lessons, it was Onew! I had a brain fart. No matter all of those technicalities we both know he’s so amazing and talented and deserves all the love!!! I’m so sad about the current news of him having a hard time. 😞

He’s also part of a supergroup SM ent put together to beat BTS, called super M(it didn’t work,super M sold 1.6mill albums,while BTS sold 4.8 mill albums).. It’s made up of 7 absolute monstrously talented performers from different groups. The avengers of k pop. KAI (one do the best dancers in k pop) and BAEKHYUN (one of the best vocalists in k pop) from EXO, and Taemin from Shinee especially stood out.
To beat bts lmao? Btw SuperM debuted like 6 months before the pandemic in 2019. So they’re really recent. And it has nothing to do with BTS, in fact they just did the same concept with a new girl group

The biggest question when superM debuted was “will they beat BTS”.Anyone in kpop during that time knew what they were going for. It was obvious.😂. And don’t say they are an early group,they are seasoned idols and even using that as an excuse is a disregard for super Ms veteran idols. They came out with jopping ( a mediocre song that even NCT can do. I”ll pick any shinee or Exo song over it any day.) G.O.T is much better,but SM aren’t marketing them like he did superM. Let’s be real, SM used the idols,”the avengers of kpop and “will they beat BTS” to market superM and make a quick buck. And oh boy,they did.

Back in 2019,when super M debuted , the first question was “will they beat BTS?” Just google it now. It's the first thing that even comes up. Imagine the star power super M held, only to be given a mediocre song.Hope they do better with Girls on Top, but SM doesn't seem to be pushing on it unfortunately. The lyrics were “okay” but the performance was just GOD tier. 🤌🏼🔥
