Taemin - Killing Voice - UK K-Pop Fans Reaction 

You were right about him not feeling well. He said he was sick while recording Killing Voice. There were also some issues which resulted in him having to start recording again after almost finishing all the songs. Plus it is true that he was happy to be doing Killing Voice. It is obvious he prepared very well and wanted to show his voice the best. He is still underappreciated as a vocalist, since his dancing is what people notice more. Also since he debuted as a very young boy, still going through puberty, he wasn't able to sing well in the beginning. He worked on his voice a lot and takes great pride in it. I wouldn't say he is a people's person. He is actually very introverted and a bit shy, though he transforms on stage. But I think you were right about him seeming lonely. He mentioned it many times, that while he loves performing as a soloists, he often feels lonely while doing it as well. He is used to performing with SHINee and he feels most at ease with them.

Taemin's back catalogue of ballads are some of my favourites from him - even more so than his title tracks which are already amazing - I really love he was able to show case quite a lot of them in this killing voice.

I'm glad you recognized Taemin's beautiful voice. He is known for his dancing, good performance and sexy looks, but he is also a phenomenal singer. His songs are unique and beautiful, in one word, his work is real art.

First of all I loved your reaction and I love you were able to experience and truly appreciate Taemin’s amazing voice and versatility - both in his vocal technique and his discography. I can assure you Taemin loves being a solo artist. It was always his dream, since the very young age to become a solo artist and whenever he’s on stage during his solo concerts he transforms into this magnetic, mesmerizing superstar! What I see here, he was definitely happy and emotional taking part in this program as he was finally given a chance to showcase his beautiful voice to a wider audience. It was a very deliberate move on his side to sing some of his gorgeous ballads, which he loves performing and which truly show how amazing of a vocalist he is. He was a little sick that day though so it must have been challenging for him at the same time, but I think he did a fantastic job. Taemin is a unique artist, his talent is truly endless and he’s super respected by the whole industry. That’s what people mean by saying “it’s Taemin” - they mean there’s nothing he can’t do and everyone expects nothing but greatness from him, which he delivers every single time. Apart from his artistry I love his super endearing personality. He’s truly one of a kind, the most adorable and loving human being.

Well, if I remember correctly, I think he was under the weather when he filmed this, so that may be part of it. But you may also be right that there is an emotional connection with the choice of songs as well.

It's no surprise that Taemin is shocking you with his voice. Yep, that's precisely what the members of SHINee are known for. SHINee has been nicknamed CD-INee or CD-eaters for a reason. Sounding better live than their studio recordings is signature SHINee. If you know SHINee, then you know their vocal talent is unmatched and they are one of the most highly respected groups for their live vocal skills. Taemin's and SHINee's vocal talents are what the Killing Voice was invented for. "Danger" was Taemin's solo debut song in 2014. (Yes, this year is Taemin's 10th anniversary as a solo artist.) A large majority of those songs are iconic B-side songs that are fan favorites he performs in his solo concerts, which are often Japanese concerts. I really hope you will consider looking up all of those songs you haven't heard yet and maybe doing a reaction to his concert performances of them. :D He has performed almost all of his songs in concert and they take on a whole other dimension when performed live. For example, "Rise" is a must watch concert performance song that is one of his most epic Japanese concert performances. If you think it gave you goosebumps here, just wait until you see his concert performance. The performance you should watch is a clip that combines his songs "Soldier" and "Rise" in the same set. "Hypnosis" is one of Taemin's favorite ballads of his. So when he is asked to sing something off the cuff or acapella in interviews, etc. he often sings this song. You really have to hear him perform the full thing in concert. "I'm Crying" is also a B-side song, so there is no MV. As I think you know, Taemin is the main dancer and a main vocalist of SHINee. However, because he is a member of SHINee, this means he can do it all. Although, what they are really recognized for is as one of the best vocal groups to ever exist. All of the SHINee members are top tier singers and dancers. Plus, with SHINee you will never get the same thing twice. Everything Taemin releases will be a new style and sound and, yet, it will still be very "Taemin". As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee are meant to be the first to do almost everything, and they are expected to come up with something new that no one has ever seen or heard before with every release of theirs. As Kpop's trendsetters, the members of SHINee reinvent the industry with every comeback. Yes, when Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee way back in 2008, he didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang, he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc. And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. (SHINee are considered THE premier vocal group that everyone dreams of being as good as.) That's why in SHINee's first few songs he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song. However, as you probably know, if he was really tone deaf, he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. Someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune. Taemin has literally been recognized as one of the top two BEST dancers in all of Kpop by his peers and industry experts. (Kai from EXO -- who happens to be Taemin's best friend since trainee days, and a fellow member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) That is why he has been nicknamed the Korean Michael Jackson. Everyone in the industry looks up to Taemin and idolizes him. But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun (two of the best vocalists in the industry) -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. (For the first year or more after SHINee's debut Taemin spent hours in vocal lessons and he would push himself every day until his nose would bleed because he was so tired and worn out, etc. He practically lived in the training rooms at SM Entertainment.) The ONLY thing the members of SHINee are not good at is lip syncing, so Taemin, and all the members of SHINee, have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight in concert, all while performing intense choreographies like what you have seen in Taemin's MVs, and still sound flawless. When you watch a live performance, you may be shocked because Taemin and SHINee sound so perfect live even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are so highly respected by everyone. It's a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing than they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals. Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed the SHINee members performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful. Therefore, in Taemin's live performance he is almost always singing live all while dancing full out. What makes SHINee so great is that even if they are singing acapella while performing high energy choreography, they sound just as amazing. That's why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive. When SHINee debuted, they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing complex choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography, but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee completely changed the Kpop industry and upped the standard of what it meant to be an idol singer. Taemin -- and SHINee -- live is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach, and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate.

I think the downside of a lot of reaction channels is that they rarely really go beyond the MV title tracks. I think that is a shame because for a lot of artists, the real beauty exists in the B-sides. Taemin’s title tracks are outstanding, of course, but his B-sides are stunning and so diverse in terms of vocal tone and genre. He lives up to the SHINee origin of “experimental” music because he is always experimenting with his solo releases too. I’ve seen quite a few reactions of this Killing Voice where the reactors are surprised at Taemin’s vocal range and power, so I am thankful he did this so more people can appreciate his voice. He has worked so hard since debut to improve it and I’m sure he worked hard even while out on military service because it sounds even more polished now. Thank you so much for the reaction! You have to listen to TAEMIN‘s albums to understand who he is as an artist you can’t just watch music videos and listen to title tracks and think you know him he’s multi layered

I love all of Taemin's music, but "Rise" actually does rise about a lot of them. I would suggest that if you want to react to that one, I strongly suggest you react to this live performances. It's why he is also always learning different philosophies. Most of his music reveals his deep thoughts and life experiences through the lens of the philosophies he's explored juxtaposed with his own Christian faith and how he deals with all the temptations and competing ideas within the world. This is precisely why you can never just read the lyrics say oh, he's singing about a bad relationship or love. There are no such simple meanings with those types of songs. The truth lies within the metaphors, allusions, etc., buried two and sometimes three layers deep, and they all have one thing in common, Taemin's psyche. They are very personal to him, and that's why he performs them with such emotion. Contrary to your thoughts, Taemin LOVES being a soloist. Don't get me wrong, he loves his SHINee brothers and being SHINee. As he has said, SHINee is where he feels the safest, it's home, and family. However, his solo career is also something he has worked so hard to achieve from the very beginning. It's the place where he can fully show his creative bent and musical prowess, conveyed through his dancing, his voice, and the atmosphere he creates. I'm glad you've learned your lesson about the discord receipts Simon 😂 Taemin's growth as a singer is a testament to his hard work and also with Jonghyun helping you how could you not become amazing 💙 He's come so far but he's still a chaos demon. He tends to come across as shy and reserved when he's alone or with younger idols but don't let him fool you! This guy famously laughs at and films his friends when they cry 😂

TAEMIN recorded it even though he was weakened and it still sounded so pure and powerful. I recommend more of his b-side songs

He's so cute! Taemin wasn't feeling well to record killing voice, but his voice is wonderful and he did his best.

I'm so happy you got to see how good and versatile Taemin's voice is, he's one of my favourite vocalists of all time! I really hope you check out some more of him and SHINee, Taemin has been belting out amazing vocals for years. Taemin's voice really is very powerful. He covers a lot of Jonghyun's lines nowadays, which is a hell of a feat considering the powerhouse that Jjong is. I recommend for some sweet Taeminnie vocals: Rise (Sirius Japan Tour), Sleepless night SWC3, Excuse me miss SWC4 👌 When people say that Taemin used to be a bad singer, its more that he didn't get any formal vocal training before debut, because he was so young and his voice was still changing. Jjong and Jinki taught him to sing first, and Taemin practiced extremely hard and learnt very quickly. You can hear them in little bits of how he sings. There's old videos of him in like 2009 with solid live vocals already, and he was the very first SM group idol to solo debut. (also about what you said about him wanting to be a solo artist or not, he actually joined SM because he wanted to be like Rain, and be a solo artist rather than in a group 😆 Taemin's actually very open about his professional aspirations and greed for his solo career).

Btw Dingo do a sort of dance version of Killing Voice called 100sec Choreography which he did as well, that's where you'll find more of the Taemin you recognise! There's a performance of Black Rose you could react to, I think you'd both love that one! Taemin has a certain quality when he's performing where he is so engrossed in living and breathing the song that he makes it seem as if you're intruding on something, like you've stumbled across some fae creature and can't look away even though it feels like a private moment between him and the music
