Happy to own this as a heuer, reverse panda dial, hardcore F1 fan. The original Autavia “Rindt”was in Ford v Ferrari for those that noticed it (worn by Christian Bale)
I bought mine several months ago. I shortly bought the beads of rice bracelet. This is an eye catching, conversation starter. But more importantly, it’s +4 second day piece. And with an 8 inch wrist, it doesn’t feel “too big” at all. And I love pointing out it’s in house movement to the Tag haters who assume it’s an ETA. And best of all, I lived near the Nürbugring as kid. The Heuer logo was EVERYWHERE. So it is a very deja vu feeling each time I look at the face. This, along with my Aquaracer 500m, are definite keepers. Thanks for a fine review.
Do you wear it on the bracelet more often or do you put it on rubber or leather? I have fallen in love with this thing in the past 48 hours and think I might pick up the black model but I can see wearing it on a curved rubber strap. Such a nice piece and from a brand I have not owned before... ( fell in love with watches when I was about 22 and my boss gave me a tag chronograph which I later found out was a replica! 😮 Schmuck!)
Great video! I got an ex-display model (with bracelet and strap included) during lockdown for 49% off RRP - I absolutely love it and I wear it more than anything else I own. It’s worth pointing out that these watches weren’t a sales success at all, and production ended in Spring 2019. Anything you see left for sale is remaining stock. Also, the very earliest references from the first production batch (like mine) have a bizarre subdial with 2.5 minute increments - the one in the video is the “fixed” dial with 1 minute increments they released shortly after launch.
Congrats, nice watch. Like I posted earlier I tried one on during vaca last year, was tempted, but would've had to sell my only 2 watches that were worth anything to get it. I stll question my decision. Hope you wear and enjoy yours in good health.
Teddy DISGUISES the clear profile view, showing the 6-/12 o’clock profile with the strap in the way, and the 3-/9-o’clock profile with your FINGER IN THE WAY, after fzirst holding it at a tilted angle SEMI-profile that HIDES THE THICKNESS. YOU FRAUDSTER, LIAR, major deception-spinster. GET OFF THE RU-vid, Teddy JERK!
Crazy, when I saw this video a few days back I remember thinking how beautiful the watch is. Today I walked by the display counter and glanced at one under the glass. I tried it on, it felt nice, I inquired about any special deals. They did indeed want to make deals. Long story short, thanks for putting this on my radar, it is now my newest watch!
Tag has been doing a nice job for the last 10 years. I think Watch Snobs hate that Tag did a better job with marketing than most watch brands in the 90s and got more attention than brands that are considered more prestigious which is no fault of their own. For the past 10 years, they have channeled their past and developed good pieces at the same time that it has developed their own movements. A lot of my friends that are into watches started their collection journeys with Tags, which is same for me. I am currently into all things Omega, Tudor and Grand Seiko but I proudly wear my Tag Watches and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
TH did a good job with this one! It's a bit too thick for my taste. Definitely appreciate that "Tag" doesn't show up anywhere except on the backside, not even on the buckle. Nice panda dial, and a good value for a column wheel chrono movement. The one to get is the carrera 160 reissue though, that one is a gem!
Thanks for a detailed review. I purchased this recently and it has quickly become my favorite in my collection. The aesthetic is spot on, in my view, if you are interested in a vintage style.
Thats a beautiful watch. Many of the watch vloggers recently have been showcasing the new Carerra models. Lately I have been obsessing over the Chopard Mille Miglia collection and their connection to the legendary race in Italy.
Excellent review Teddy. I bought the exact same 2017 Autavia earlier this year, and I just love its classic looks and related history. Last month it only gained 12 seconds, so the Heuer 02 is a very accurate movement. I purchased mine second hand in as new condition saving a lot of money, and according to Chrono24 it's worth about $500 more than when I bought it so I'm more than happy.
I just bought this watch this weekend, I love it. I had the original 6 years and sold it to someone in Japan for 3k, what huge regret. I’m glad they choose this watch to reissue.
Thank you for another great video Teddy. I've been blessed with the opportunity to have some very nice watches. At the similar price point as the Tag Heuer Autavia Chronograph. Recently, I was at my local AD to pick up a watch that had just come back from service and was presented with an opportunity to purchase this watch with the stainless steel band at a substantial discount since it had been discontinued. Upon seeing the watch. I have a pit in my stomach. From my early years in the 1970's, and going to the jeweler's with my parents to pick out a nice watch for my birthday. I saw the Autavia Chronograph and upon seeing the price at that time, which was equal to about 3 weeks of my father's paycheck, it was obvious that was not a reasonable option. Naturally, I was disappointed and the jeweler presented us with a nice, affordable manual wind LeJour Chronograph, which I still have. So, naturally, when I was presented with the opportunity to buy the Autavia Chronograph, especially at such a discount, I bought the watch. While it is not COSC certified, it performs to that standard. I am rather sorry to see the watch discontinued. I am sure that Tag has it's reasons, but is is sad to see such a tremendous, historic watch discontinued. While I have other high end watches, none is as satisfying to wear as my Heuer Autavia 02 Chronograph.
Back in 1976 my Dad bought me the Heuer Autavia Viseroy for High School Graduation. The past 46 year and 25,000 hour of flight time I have worn this watch. A few years ago I shipped it back to Heuer and they went through the whole watch. I now also own the new TAG Heuer Autavia. These are great watches.
Huge fan of these TAG Heuer Chronos. I own a Heuer Carrera Calibre 18 and love it. I think it has the best dimensions overall and is closer to the 60's/70's style, "Heuer" Chronos. These watches best represent the golden era of motor racing IMO. Good review!
Great review!! I bought the Heuer 85th anniversary 2 years ago as a pre-owned at a very attractive price. 💖 it since day 1. Couple days ago in Jackroad in Tokyo stumbled into this 02 (in rice bracelet) and couldn’t take my eyes off it. Capitalised the chance of weak Yen and made it my second Autavia. Still too good to be true I now have a pair of these classic panda that each having its own unique heritage and beauty! I do have a soft spot for Tag and I have an original Formula 1 from the 90s and a modern Formula 1 as well 😎
What a fantastic video. Very nicely presented. I just had the opportunity to see and then purchase the now discontinued Heuer Autavia 02 chronograph. Mine has the 2.5 minute interval wheel. The story goes I walked into my AD to pick up a watch that had been out for repair and my sales rep pulled out the Autavia Heuer 02 with the stainless steel movement. I was immediately brought back to age 15, which is now 45years ago when my parents brought me to a jeweler to pick out a watch in 1974 when I saw the then Autavia in production. My parents could not afford it so they have purchased me a manual wind LeJour chronograph, which I still have but is in a state of disrepair. Back to 2021, I saw the watch and got sweaty. I already have a great Tudor BB COSC chronograph but when I saw the Heuer 02 Autavia with the beads of rice bracelet and then my sales rep said he would sell it to me BNIB for a huge discount I took the bait, hook, line and sinker. I've worn the watch in rotation against other automatic watches having distinguished brand recognition. I cannot help but feel drawn to wear the Heuer 02 Autavia. Mine keeps time to COSC standards and I enjoy the watch immensely. I am sad that they discontinued heuer the watch at the end of 2019. Thank you for the video. It does great justice to this iconic watch having a lineage and pedigree of 60 years.
Great in depth review, the Cal 02 Autavia panda dial is a winner. Recently got an opportunity to pickup the Hodinkee `Orange Boy' version. Mint preowned, this Autavia 02 is my grail watch. As far as chronos go this ones really hard to top. So happy!
I have a Tag Heuer Caliber 5 Carrera (WV2111b-3) and a Caliber 16 chrono (the blue one that came out in 2018) and love them both. The Caliber 5 one is a dressier one for me, pretty subtle. That watch's bracelet is one of my favorite over all my watches, very comfortable plus the watch isn't very showy. I really like the dial of the Caliber 16 but find the watch is a bit thick. I find Tag's offer a lot of value for the money.
I have a Carrera caliber 16 and it’s my first “luxury watch“ purchase I have zero regrets! It is an amazingly good looking watch, very accurate, fits great on my wrist and with the black alligator deployment strap it’s a very high-end looking watch. We hear so much about Seiko, Omega, Rolex and the list goes on but very little about tag and that should change in my opinion.
@@kaisoerfjord6794 he says 15mm at 5 minutes and a pretty good side profile at 5min 30sec. I'm a sucker for the panda and reverse panda. Granted he did not point out the bulging case back. I had a world timer with a very convex back that was uncomfortable for me and I gave it to my mother, she wears it every single day. Now I'm envious of it and wonder if I would get used to it. Maybe he is like my mother and the bulging bubble back doesn't feel like an egg on Teddy's wrist. Why would he lie. Money? Maybe. I'm sure some of my watches are uncomfortable but if it like them I subconsciously ignore it.
I agree with you, my favorite chronograph. The family includes: Jo Siffert reissue with Calibre 12. Jack Heuer 85th Birthday, with Calibre 2. Outstanding. I am glad you looked at the watches and confirmed they are top quality, vertical clutch movements as well.
Possibly one of the best modern Tag Heuers - it's a shame it looks like they've discontinued it now, but hopefully, it makes a comeback. I've been on the fence with this so many times just because of the thickness, but the overall design & that movement really are amazing.
Hey Teddy Can u please make a review about the longines dolcevita automatic and maybe a comparison with Cartier americaine? Thanks for the constant great content
Somehow this one has per min indicators on the 30min counter subdial, the older batches have 2.5min indicators which is a deal breaker for me. Time to go to my nearest AD to confirm if the newer batches have the same 30min counter subdial as the one featured in this video here. Thank you for the review Teddy, it reignites the fire in me of wanting this watch again.
I really like this piece, as well as the new Carrera...and the Calibre 11 Monaco. I'm a huge fan of the mid-sixties/early-seventies Heuer and these are as close as I seem to be able to get to those "holy grail" vintage pieces.
I like the brad, I have a Tag Heuer Kirium that was my first luxury Swiss made watch and I remember that in the 90’s when I bought the watch Tag was a brand that was in by that decade. They are doing some good stuff lately and I like it! Keep the good work my friend!
This really is a great piece in terms of quality for price. There is some noticeable rotor wobble but it is not as pronounced as it is in some other TH models.
I like the direction the company is taking. I’ve considered the Autavia and Breitling new Chronomat with the BO1 movement. Both priced similar difficult choice.
I think this is definitely one of the nicest Tag Heuer watches I’ve seen. If as has been commented large discounts are available, it’s one I’d consider
This is definitely a solid release by the brand, and that and the Carreras give me hope for the future. It is a touch thick, but considering the diameter, not TOO bad. I think the date was nicely handled, and I do appreciate having a date on a watch. The price is also not overly high, considering the offering and brand. Thanks for doing this review.
I totaly agree with you. TAG are finally on to something with the caliber 02 movement. But it is in the 11th hour, the management or the people who drained the brand walues maybe got to a insight that they blowing it for them self. So close to a free fall. Monaco can't save them every "time".
Bought one when they fist were released in 2017 Have had a few 60’s Auctiva over the years but sold them 10-15 year ago. Only wear the Heuer 02 now and then. Take care Watchentime
On the Carrera the case thickness is more obvious as it is slab sided. By the way, one thing that wasn’t mentioned is the rotor noise of this calibre. I noticed this with Cartier watches too, even the latest £6000 Santos has quite a bit of rotor noise
Also might add watch Le Mans 66, as Tag Heuer supplied original Heuer watches to the main characters of Carroll Shelby (Carrera) and Ken Miles (Autavia).
Great video, Teddy, thank you. Another commenter said production stopped, is this true? Shame, if so. I tried it on during vacation, and I was really tempted to purchase it. I would have had to sell my only 2 watches that are worth anything to get it, I eventually opted out. It's not small, got great wrist presence, it does NOT feel like a toy.
Gorgeous, but I would want the 3 "big" hands to have a better finishing and attention to detail. They look a bit crude, like taken from a Vostok Komandirskie. They seem to be true to style from the old one, but I would have hoped for a bit more depth in the hands with nicer finish. Also the 12 hour bezel doesnt really make sense to me, what is it supposed to be used for?
I don't think Autavia can really be argued with, fantastic line from Tag. I feel like the issue the watch world has is with the F1 line, especially the quartz versions.
Which is still rediculous, all brands have entry level watches, 1 - what's wrong with quartz? 2 what's wrong with the F1 line? People just need something to complain about
Great video (as usual)! Just bumped into an Autavia Bronze Isograph in a department store last weekend while looking for a bronze addition to my collection. Liked it but seems way overpriced at retail (over $4,000 US), as some commented TH makes more sense value-wise in the aftermarket. Also saw B&M Bronze Clifton. What's your opinion on this piece? Not overly excited with the ETA movement but quite liked it.
Beautiful watch, and I came close to buying it several times. In the end, its too thick for my liking. My limit is 15 mm tall for a non-diver. The design otherwise, the strap too, is incredible. I find it way more interesting than the new Carrera models.
Hey Teddy. Im currently in search of my very first Swiss watch and I stumbled upon your channel and it's been amazing. I've always wanted a Tag Heuer Carrera Three Hands Blue Dial and just curious what you think about the Carerra series in general. Are they value for money, or just for the brand name? Longines Master Moonphase Chronograph Silver dial and Tudor Black Bay Steel are also in my Top 3 list
Love that 160 year anniversary edition. Costs an arm and a leg but great watch. I must say that I try to steer clear from in-house chronographs b/c of the long term maintenance cost so this is not an option for me. I'd rather go for a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope with its "easier to manage" ETA/Valjoux-based chronograph movement (7750). However, I love the heritage of the TAG Heuer brand, regardless of the last few years of "haters" with the TAG and more recently the LVMH acquisitions. I'm still looking for "the one"... Any suggestions for an entry level TAG Heuer?
I bought this watch and had 3 issues: 1) the stop watch didn’t work 2) the watch band is on the shorter length, I have a 7.5 wrist and had to use the last hole 3) it is thick, really thick, I can’t see why it had to be this thick. Will not slide under cuff 4) I had to return it. It is a beautiful watch.
Awesome review Teddy thank you. I own this watch and I absolutely love it. For those that are saying it’s a brick or two big, I can honestly say it doesn’t feel look or wear that way at all. I bought it on the bracelet and then I ended up buying the leather strap that you reviewed here and I love it on both. It’s a beautiful watch.
@@kaisoerfjord6794 you are welcome to your opinion but I have to respectfully disagree with what you have said here. I’m not exactly sure why you chose to respond to my comments but in case you didn’t read them, I have the watch, so I am speaking from direct experience. I agree with Teddy’s explanation of this watch because though it is on the thicker side (which he mentions multiple times) it does not wear as such. I have a very average to even a bit smallish wrist and the watch fits incredibly well and I get complements all the time. I love the watch and I feel this review was on point and was not misleading or lying in any way.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ETCnf4h98ak.html This dude also shows the profile, plus he has a small wrist and tbh it looks pretty good! Yes could be thinner but the profile is broken up. Plus on a strap it will look a bit smaller even
@@chrislee6691 the watch is completely wearable. On the thiccer side but i have seen worse. Also, its a bit thinner due to the domed glass and the bezel breaks up the profile. But you already know that! Stunner of a watch, i know what I will buy with my first real paycheck😁
Teddy. Excellent video....can you please get a hold of a Speedmaster Professional and do a comparison of both these watches. Also, would this watch be a practical day to day piece for someone with the same wrist size as you? I love this watch but I am not sure if the big size of the case will overwhelm my wrist
I don't believe there's anything luxurious about Tag Heuer, them watches look like the branded stuff you get when you buy that BMW, cheapie ballpoint pen, an umbrella maybe and thrown in, the watch that's just shiny all around. Now this watch, that bezel is just so plain ugly. It's like they didn't have one with a proper tachymeter and they used whatever spare part there was available.
Whats your opinion on Tag Heuer Grand Carrera 36 RS Calibre? It's one of the most gorgeous watches in my opinion, specially with Red and Black leather strap.
It’s so nice to see no bad mouthing of this brand lol I like having such a controversial Watch brand love my advanced gmt link watch it’s wearable art love your review
I really would like if Tag heuer did a watch with a no date window. The only 1 I ever seen was the Tag Heuer carrera calibre 1 WV3010 manual wind special edition which I like but there isn't a lot of information on it
it would be funny if you and archibold Chesterfield the third made a video together I remember watching the live stream with you and Archie and I was crying laughing and wasn't bored the whole video 😂
I was leaning towards a speedmaster for the chrono look but stumbled upon the latest carrera sports chrono...instantly fell in love with it. Design, features and price seem about hitting the sweet spot...what do you think in terms of brand recognition in the long term?
I think snobs expect Patek or Rolex quality, from Tag, but they don't quite understand, that they aren't on the same price bracket as Rolex, Patek, AP, etc But for their price, they are amazing
Rolex and Patek aren't in the same price bracket either lol, you cant compare them, Rolex makes nice watches, they hold their value, but they're in all honesty nothing special, their movements are nothing to write home about either. Rolex has quality, but it's not really anything above tag heuers higher end offerings anyway :/
hey teddy, i loved your videos and i am big fan of your channel.. i would love to see your review about tag heuer aquaracer 200 meter and new carerra just date model… i am looking forward to buy my first automatic watch and i am looking forward to your review these 2 new models… thank you
